When is construction supposed to be done at Aulani? I seem to recall seeing it was expected to be finished in fall of 2013. Has it been pushed up? Any reason to think any construction would be going on next October?

Hoping to book airlines this month but will have to wait until 7 month mark to book Aulani. I assume we won't have difficulty getting a 2bdrm since we're not picky about which view... any reason to think otherwise? I will probably book the Kauai portion of our stay (hoping to rent a vacation home) before we know when Aulani is available. Just want to make sure I have all of my ducks in a row before booking the airlines. Anything else I should be thinking about?

I had no problem booking at the 7 month mark for May. When I spoke with the CM, she said that construction is currently scheduled to be over by mid year 2013. So she thought that the construction would likely be minimal by May. Not sure I would book flights before having a room. You might get more responses by posting this on the DVC Resort board.

I don't think you'll have problems with the construction. We were just there in the midst of it all a few weeks ago, and it didn't really bother us. It was much better in October - compared to how it was back in March when they all first started. We come home to the island (Honolulu on Oahu) 2x a year -- and we always stalk the airline prices on Hawaiian Airlines. For several years now (3 or 4)... we've managed to get $298-$320 ROUND TRIP airline tickets for each of us - we have a family of 4! Those were the ticket prices that we used to pay HNL-SFO back 20 years ago! United was running the same special for October travel. We usually buy our tickets a couple of months in advance.

We happen to have a school break in March and October - and we've been lucky to get air tickets at great prices... we can't stay away from Hawaii! So, if you see airline tickets in the $300+ range ROUND TRIP - it is definitely a good deal, and you should snatch it, since we've seen the prices go up in a matter of a day or 2.

I'm sure you'll have loads of fun!!!

We just booked Aulani at the 7 month window (for early June 2013). We wanted a one BR and we didn't care on view, except didn't want ocean view due to the points because I need them for another WDW trip later in the year. I'm so happy we got our room. I was online at 7am Central (8am Eastern). Two hours later, three of the four days were booked for all 1BR views except ocean. Keep in mind... that was a 1BR. I'm betting there will be better availability of 2BRs due to number of points needed, but then again I don't know how many 2 BRs they have at Aulani. So I'd be online at the 7 month window to guarantee. It was a bit nerve-wracking!

We didn't book airfare yet. We are still trying to figure out if we want to stop in PHX on way home for a day or two or try to come straight back to Chicago. That will be a long flight and not sure how kids (and me and DH!) will handle that. Good luck!

Thanks for the input! Glad to hear the construction should be wrapped up by October.

We'll be using frequent flyer miles, and in order to get the lowest point tickets for 5 people (the four of us and my FIL) we have to book flights at 11 months. I'm willing to take the risk booking tickets early when we have to wait until 7 months to book Aulani. There were still 2 bedrooms available this October, so I'm hoping that will be the case next year. I'll keep my fingers crossed!

We're also taking advantage of school schedules and a two-week break in October. This is the first year we've had this calendar and we love it. We went to WDW this year and Hawaii next year. October is a great time to travel!

As an Aulani CM , we have been told that construction at the pool is to be over around April/May 2013. I had not heard anything about October, but they are doing plenty of construction so I think if there were to be ANY construction going on til then it would be super minimal. I think they want to have everything for the third and final phase to be done before summer hits.
