Can't wait to start planning a trip to Aulani, but since it is not on the Big Island, what is the best way to get there? We would fly out of Newark. would we fly to Honolulu and, if so, how long would the flight from there to Aulani be? Is it better to fly to Molokai or Kaui? Looking for any and all information...:confused3

Aulani is on the same island as Honolulu. You would need to rent a car or arrange for other ground transportation (taxi, bus, limo, etc.) to get to the Aulani Resort.

The city of Honolulu is on Oahu, the same as Aulani.

We'd fly out of Newark too; it seems price will typically be around $800 plus per person for Non-stop flight which takes nearly 11 hours to island of Oahu (Honolulu) :faint:

DH and I honeymooned on the Hawaiian islands, going we had a layover of a couple hours at LAX and coming home we flew to LAX but then on to Las Vegas where we stayed couple of days. We'd love to get to Aulani to celebrate our 30th in 2 years but I don't think I could stand to do 11 hours non-stop flight and I'd still need to talk myself into being comfortable enough to fly such a great distance because I am really not keen on flying at all, so if I get to that point then we will probably stop a few days in California &/or Las Vegas both going and returning home ( and that of course will mean spending even more $ :rotfl: and if we take our 3 kids along we'll need to rob a bank :lmao: )

Thanks everyone...guess I better brush up on my Hawaiian geography before I start planning! :rolleyes1

It's okay - people get confused because the most populous and touristy island (Oahu) is not the "big island." :goodvibes

If you have some extra points squirreled away, why not try for a 2 or 3 night layover in LAX and stay at GCV and visit the mouse?

I've found some pretty sweet airfare deals that way out of Chicago. DW has a bad back and I know she couldn't do a straight flight of 8/9 hours if I flew direct.

Had it down to about $650 coming out of Chicago. But it looks like I'll have just enough AA frequent flier miles coming next september and the flight to Hawaii will be gratis.

:lmao: I'm so babe in the woods w/ respect to our 50th state, I bought...wait for it... "Hawaii for Dummys". I figured that should help answer my most basic questions like what city is where. ;)

Aulani is not too far from the Honolulu airport. Almost closer than Waikiki is!;) The Big Island (of Hawaii) would have been my preference for the resort though. You can fly direct to that island though too, since many airlines service Hilo and kona.

We've been to Hawaii several times, and I don't do it for less than 2-3 weeks now. That's mostly because of the long flight. We live in Minnesota, so a direct non-stop is around 8-9 hours. We prefer to take flights that stop in LA or Seattle just to break it up a bit. Another suggestion is to only fly first class to Hawaii. That is the ONLY way I will do a non-stop to Hawaii.

We also like changing islands during each trip. Last time we did a week each on Kauai, Hawaii, and Oahu. Usually we only use Oahu for acclimating to the time change when we arrive and getting back into the busier city mode when we leave for home.

Molokai is one of my favorite places to visit an I wish you could fly there direct. The only way to get to Molokai is on a 20 passenger propeller plane or a ferry.

Just returned from Oahu. The ferry no longer is available due to an effort at being more green.
