I have to book a room for Aulani for NEXT September (2013). I will NOT stay above the 4th or 5th floor because of safety issues with fire equipment. My DH wants an ocean view room. I think it is silly to spend the points on OV when we probably will not see the ocean from anything on the 5th floor and lower! i do NOT want to look at a parking lot!! This is probably the one and only time I will ever get DH to travel for this long (he is self employed and already having anxiety attacks about going on vacation for 2 weeks!) We will stay at Aulani for 7 nights and travel from the east coast to the west coast and make stops there both coming and going. For anyone who has stayed at Aulani, can you recommend a room/view? My preference is a one bedroom pool view. He wants a studio OV. Any help you can give would be appreciated!! We have plenty of time before we have to book, so lots of opinions are welcome!

Aulani's Ocean View villas are no lower than the 6th floor -- except for the OV Grand Villas that begin as low as the second floor. If you don't want to be above the 4th or 5th floor and you don't want to look at the parking lot, then your best bet is to try to get a Pool View villa. The Pool View villas are on floors 1-5 in the Waianae Building and on floors 3-5 in the Ewa Building. By September 2013, Aulani's Phase 3 might be open and it has Pool View villas on floors 1-5.

In case anyone is interested, here is the thread on Aulani's villas and views: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2907389

Thanks! That was very helpful! DH knows I will not stay above the fifth floor so that makes picking the room view a lot easier! Have to be honest now - I thought the construction was done Dec 2012. Have not been paying attention. :confused3: UGH. Do I push out one more year? I really do not want to be there with construction going on. We pushed back from Sept 12 to Sept 13 because DH is a bit difficult to begin with and was making a stink about taking time off work (self employed). If this trip is going to happen, it's going to be once in a life time, so I want to make the most of it!

We were there in June and never noticed any construction noise although we did see a few tradespeople. I believe most of the work being done is inside the units. DS and I went exploring one day and in one hallway every door had a sign saying things like "drywall" "master bath" etc, I am assuming what needed to be worked on.

We had 2 rooms during our stay. First was a studio Pool View on the 3rd floor (same as lobby) We were the 2nd door after the lobby and loved the location it was so convenient to everything.

Very good to know! I don't mind walking, but of course love convenience too! :) I think I'll stick to Sept and ask for a third or fourth floor pool view near the lobby! Knowing requests are just that and not guaranteed, I figure it can't hurt to ask!

the fire department can now go to at least 7th floor - in some places it is 10the floor -in big cities think it is now 12 floor?

Same for us.

We had a 1 bedroom pool view in the Ewa Tower on the 4th floor and it was amazing; we loved it. We could see the ocean just over the trees in the distance. We were very happy with our view.

We were there in September of 2011 at the open. They were busy working on Phase 2 and setting up the opening ceremony stuff that you saw online.

Never really heard the construction that was going on all the time in Phase 2.

Have fun!

May I ask what fire concerns you are talking about? I thought the fire dept would cover all floors.

My daughter spent a week there in June. She started in an ocean view studio and then moved to a pool garden view studio. She preferred the pool garden view. These rooms were lower -she loved being able to hear the music in her room if she opened her balcony door. I have noted in the comments posted on this board that there is greater consistency with people being happy with their garden view room that with the ocean view rooms.

This was a highlight for us as well. Our room was right by the lounge and we loved the Hawaiian music every night. We could also see what characters were out meeting.
