Aulani Grand Opening!!!

The official grand opening for Aulani is this Thursday the 22nd. Does anyone know what Disney's plans are for that day? Will it be televised on a particular station or program?

ABC Good Morning America is broadcasting, I think live. Tom Bergeron, and Bob? will be the hosts. Midnight Hawaii time will be 6 am East Coast time.

We stayed over the weekend on our DVC, and the stage is set up out on the beach cove. They were rehearsing the show last night with all the entertainment.

Big tv production lights set up all over the place, and tv cables everywhere!

No celebrity sightings at the resort, so I guess they're all arriving today through Wednesday.

Thanks Jeff!! The resort looks even more amazing than when we stayed a week or so ago. I wish I was staying there this week. Do you know if there is a schedule of events going on or if there are night time grand opening events of some sort? I'm already jonesing for our next stay at Aulani!!!

We are here at Aulani now and there is a lot going on! The daily Iwa (newsletter) makes mention that this is grand opening week but there are no official details. What we've heard from cast members is that GMA as well as Regis and Kelly will be broadcasting here...We are staying in the Ewa tower which overlooks the valet parking garage and conference center, there is a courtyard which appears to have a small stage area set up with couches and upholsted chairs (no TV equipment or lighting visible tho') below the stage are round tables and seating set up.
We've been here since Sunday and every evening they test the light show which consists of color changing lighting cast over the resort, twinkling lights up the sides of the buildings and more - last night one end of one of the buildings had performers on every balcony waving flags - it appeared they had an official dress rehearsal last night on the stage set up on the beach....I'm sure in true Disney fashion it will be a Grand Show. They did tell us at check in that there will be fireworks tonight and tomorrow night.
One thing that I can't help but notice is that the stage on the beach - there is no place for an audience...it looks like it might be all for TV. As I sit here typing this I am watching GMA....Robin, George and Josh are still in NY but Sam is in LA.....hmmmmm?

You are right! I just saw on the Disney feed on Facebook that Sam will indeed be broadcasting from Aulani! Enjoy!
