We have some Aulani subsidized points and love the mf’s. I’ve used them twice for aulani stays but so far have lucked out with wdw or gcv usage for the majority of our aulani points. We’re west coast as well which makes them a no brainer. Certainly not my favorite island but for an easy and inexpensive winter getaway the prices using subsidized points just can’t be beat. Less than $100/night with free parking for a hotel room
.
Their seasons are valued exact opposite of what we classify as prime time - we love to get away somewhere warm in the winter which is their least expensive season point wise.
I never cook at wdw resorts and from looking at the kitchens in wdw villas looks like I’m not the only one who doesn’t bother cooking but at aulani i see evidence of pretty hard kitchen use. I cook most meals in Hawaii and the 2 bedroom units have pretty small kitchens - more a challenge than cooking at home. Still a beautiful resort with no complaints. Their spa is a must visit for us but spa prices are pretty expensive. I think a spa day was silly expensive when I booked massages for the whole family but it was a nice treat to use the Laniwai spa facilities on check out day before late night flight.
A couple things that I like about the mf structure: I only pay Hawaii tat when using aulani points at aulani. I figure this might be a little savings on my end when the akv... owner books aulani because they’re paying it vs me yet I don’t have to pay tat when I use my aulani points at Akv. When I saw subsided mf for 2019 posted at $5.91 I was a little perplexed because my mfs were less than that. I’m still not sure why or how but from what others said it has something to do with the subsidy increasing over time.
