So with our trip approaching quickly, how important is it to have dining reservations? I have a reservation for the character dining already, but wondering about breakfast & dinner at AMA AMA, and dinner at Makahiki. Do they have long wait times if I don't have a reservation? We are a party of 3 if that makes any difference.

Thank you

If you are planning your meals around other events then reservations would be best. But if you day is flexible then you'll be okay. But it is a large resort so wait times can get lengthy if you dine at prime dining times. Breakfast from 8:30 to 11:00 AM and dinner from 7:30 to 9:30 PM are the busy times.

We only ate breakfast at Makahiki once for breakfast and the rest of the time ate cereal or yogurt and fruit in the room (we had a studio). And even breakfast is an expensive meal at the table restaurants at Aulani. Besides we didn't want to take away from our pool/beach time. :beach:

I don't want to take away from pool/beach time either. Majority of breakfasts will be in our room, snacks as well. Would like to dine once for dinner onsite.

No events to plan around, so I guess we will just go with the flow. Thank you.

We pre-booked a lot of dining before arriving at Aulani. We did cancel some of our reservations once we were there but it was nice to know we had our dining options secured, with the freedom to cancel. Having said that, we were able to make reservations on the actual day/evening with no trouble when we stayed but I have heard some times of the year is busier and it may pay to pre-book!

Not really a big deal to book dining early. Good thing you did for the character bfast but you will not have issues. Check out other restaurants in the area since the dining at the resort isn't that great for what you pay for. There are plenty of places within walking distance like Roy's that is far better. If you are renting a car there are many places in Kapolei like Brick Oven Pizza and Thai Loa. Two of our favorites that we like. We live very close to Aulani and love the resort but not the food.

We will certainly be eating off site as well. Roy's is a for sure!! Heard about Monkeypod too, will give that a shot.

Heard good things about Monkey pod. You will need to make reservations especially for dinner. We did last month but had to cancel and when I made them I was limited based on the availability becuz I made them earlier that day. We will be there in May & will try for sure then.

Good to know, thank you.

If you want to eat at Roy's it would be good to have a reservation, at least for dinner. I think lunch you could walk up but not sure about dinner - it was pretty crowded & no open tables. Food was excellent.

Will take care of that tomorrow!! Thank you!

MonkeyPod is Amazing but if you are going to try to go on a Friday or Saturday night then make a reservation ahead of time. Any other night of the week no need. Not many locals like to drive out to Ko'olina so for the most part you just have to deal with other hotel guests. No discounts though:(.

Already made a reservation. That was discussed a few posts up.

Anybody know if Roy's or Monkeypod has a dress code for dinner? Specifically wondering about flip flops. Thank you.

There is no dress code for Monkeypod. Slippas(flip flops) are fine. You can wear shorts and a tee shirt and they do not look at you weird. I did and we were there on a Friday night.

Anybody have an idea if Roy's has a dress code?

For Roy's slippahs(flip flops) are not the norm. It is semi-casual and have seen people wear formal as well. We usually wear at least a dress for the ladies in the family and at least dress shoes and khaki pants and nice Aloha shirt for me. I have worn polo shirts as well.

Since it is a resort area there is room for casual but would avoid board shorts and slippahs. You will enjoy the food. Get the pre-fix meals, well worth it. I usually get the braised short ribs and my wife gets the fish and we end up sharing. The kids menu is also very good.
