Does anyone know how far out cabanas can be booked at Aulani and if there is a cancellation policy? If you have rented one before, how was it? Thanks!

we are going in May, I asked this same question with MS - they told me that they now only take day of reservations on cabanas??!!! SO, I called aulani - they told me the same thing - so........ I hope we can get one while were there!!! good luck

That is really strange! I just called yesterday and they took a reservation for me for August. In fact, they sent me a confirmation email. This is the number I called: 808-674-6200. I would definitely try again. Please let me know what they say. I may call back to confirm I actually have a reservation.

We were at Aulani over Thanksgiving and ended up renting one for the entire week so I have to admit that I'm a little biased. :rotfl: We thought we would try it out for the first few days of our trip and ended up getting one for our entire stay. Depending on when you go, they are tough to book, but I seem to recall that they are very good about cancellations the night before. There is usually a waiting list since there are only 5 in the areas by the family pool (there are a few more by the adult pool) - three family cabanas at the new pool area (Ka Maka Landing) and two at the kid's play area at the Menehune Bridge. You can specify which cabana you want when you call. There are no guarantees, but they rank you based on when you reserved so the earlier the better. We had my elderly parents with us so it was great for them to have a place to relax without having to go all the way back to the room. With the new area now open, there was usually a lot of open chairs on most days so it's not a "must" do, but it was very nice to have. Here is a link with pictures and more info on the cabanas that might be helpful for you:

Happy to answer any questions if you want more info.

that is strange!!!! I asked MS when I booked, back in Nov. - I thought it was strange they told me that, so, like I said, I called Aulani and was told the same thing - I will call again as well!!!

the number I called was 808-674-6900 - which is the number in our welcome book.

** I also wanted the one near the play area for our grandbabies - when we were there last May, we loved that location, but the cabanas were booked for our entire stay. Like I said, I thought it was strange as well about the "day of" reservations, but I promise you that is what I was told!!!

***** OK - so I just called Aulani again... she said I could book it now, so, I did!! I'm going to check my email for confirmation. So, I guess it depends on who you talk too........ :/

Try the 808-674-6200 number. That's the one we used as well. When we booked our cabana back in October, they kept telling us different timelines for when the cabanas would be available to book. We finally talked to someone who had the right answer!

G'sMaman, I just called again, same # I posted, got a totally different answer, she said, "Oh, you can book now" ??? OK, so, I went ahead and booked, one day of our trip. I'm waiting on email confirm. - It's funny you were told diff timelines to book cabanas - seems everyone gives a different story!!! Anyway, glad I saw this and hopefully my resv. is good!!! LOL

Thanks for all this information! I booked a cabana for 2 of our 5 full days, one on the first full day and one on the last full day. They also told me that they "like" to have a 24 hour cancellation, but it really seems like they can easily find another person to rent.

From the description in the dvcnews article, I thing we would want a cabana near the Ka Maka Landing Pool. Our boys are 10 and 15. Is is specific enough to just request that our cabana be near the Ka Maka Landing Pool, or do you have any other recommendations? I will call a request in later. Hopefully, given that we are going in August we are one of the first to reserve anyway.

Wait, so, if you booked one yest. then they should've told you the cancellation policy, I just booked and she said if I called at least the night before I wouldn't be charged. I'm waiting on my email confirm, but, I assume it would have the policy on it?? does your email confirm not have it??

Email confirmation has nothing about cancelling. Basically, it just has a confirmation number. They told me 24 hours on the phone when I called.

Yes, she said 24 hours, but as long as I call the night before if I need to cancel, I wouldn't be charged. And, I agree with your location, for us, with 2 grandbabies, we want to be near the play area. It was perfect last may, but, no cabana's were avail.

Yes, that would be the better location. You can also specify which cabana. There are 3 and the one next to the stone wall is cabana #1. We preferred the one on the end (# 3). It allowed us to open two sides of the cabana since it's on the end and you only have one "neighbor."

That is great news!!!

Wonderful! Thank you. That is a great tip! I saw the picture of the cabanas on dvcnews, but I would not have thought of the advantage of being in #3.

Two other quick tips are that if you are a DVC member you get a discount and that at the end of the day they bring a small serving of chocolates. We didn't know about it until our third day. Not sure if it was our server's fault or if we left too early. If you need to leave early they can box it up for you.

One other question. What is the shade/sun like for these cabanas? I don't want to be in shade too much, but in August it may be hot in the sun. Also, is there a lot of foot traffic next to #3?

You have two nice lounge chairs in front of your cabana so you can enjoy both the sun and the shade. The three cabanas at the pool area are on a large platform area so you don't get very much traffic at all - really just you and the other occupants of the other two cabanas. At the front edge of the platform are rows of lounge chairs. Even when it got crowded elsewhere, hardly anyone used those chairs. Another option if you want more sun are the executive lanais in front of Ama Ama. They are much less than the cabanas, but in a more remote area so was not our first choice.
