Hi!
We are planning a trip for the last week of next August. I hear that the heat and humidity are really brutal and I am getting concerned. I get really very uncomfortable quickly, and one of my children becomes easily overheated with the humidity, especially with no breeze. :sad2: :scared:

Please be very honest and tell me what to expect in terms of heat and humidity. We know about going to the parks early and taking a swim break in the afternoon. Will that suffice? Do I need to rethink this trip? :confused3

Thank you for your help!
Lynn

and I really don't think it's *that* bad. But that could just be us. Yes, we do the early to parks, swim breaks, showers in the afternoon help alot. Also, you can buy the mister fans. I saw just the fan portion today at Walmart, but I think the kind you can also mist yourself with works much better. We got them for about $5 ea before our last trip. We're also going down this Aug. We also drench our hats throughout the day and that helps to keep us cool. Also many of the rides have a/c. There was only one day that we left MK because it was sooooo crowded and hot. That was the Sat. of Labor Day Weekend. Just do what works best for you and your family and I'm sure you'll all have a great time!

I was there last August. It was hot but not unbearable. We did take breaks each afternoon and enjoyed the pool. I'm actually considering going back this August so it must not have been too bad. :earsgirl:

I have gone in August the past six years. IT is hot, you will need to drink a lot of water. I have an older daughter who is 17 now, and even at 11 we never took breaks. You go in and our of airconditioning and there are fans running in many lines. If it get's really bad, go into a restaurant to cool off. (one year we took my daughter's friend who kept going to the bathrrom a lot. We finally realized she was only going in there because of the air conditioning LOL)

One good thing is that you WANT to get really wet on water rides.

I get overheated easily, one of those lovely people who only perspire through their heads. Anyway, we go in August every year. The mister fans work for some relief, but last year I bought those gel bandana things, and that really helped. It stayed cool on my neck, which kept my head temp. down.

Hello - we have been there the last week of august the past two summers. Yes, it is hot, humid and it rains. We have picked that week because dh is a teacher and at least the crowds are not too bad. You will have a great time anyway.

Here's what we do. We get up early and head to the parks. In the early am its not that hot yet and you can walk on to the rides. Around 11:30-12 we head back to the hotel. We pick somewhere on property with a great pool and spend the afternoon at the resort. It often rains in the afternoon but by then if you get up and out early, you have had quite a full day. Have some dinner and head back out in the evening.

I bring a water bottle that I walk around with. I wear tevas. And, in the day I wear a two piece bathing suit with shorts and a light tank plus a tennis visor so that if it gets real hot, its ok.

You will have a great time.

Those gel bandana's are awesome! Before we had those, we just rolled a couple ice cubes in a regular bandana & tied it around our neck, letting the ice cubes melt & keep us cool....

It is HOT & HUMID. I happen to like it that way, but you need to prepare yourself for it mentally. I just go into thinking how great it is to feel like a warm, cozy quilt is wrapped around me & how wonderful it is that we will be swimming & stuff.... I really think your attitude is going to play a HUGE role in how you handle the heat. It does in our family.

Take people's suggestions seriously, especially regarding Hydration. If you exercise common sense, you will have a great time, no matter how hot it is. Every Park (except AK) has plenty of A/C & water to cool you down. You really aren't spending a huge amount of time in direct sun unless you want to.

We went for the last week of this past August and were not bothered by the heat. There was only one time that we really felt it - while waiting for and watching the parade in the afternoon at MK but we had positioned ourselves in a spot where the sun was shining right on us and there were no shady areas in sight.
We had Walmart mister fans (great!). Paid $2 Cdn for each.
We didn't take any breaks from the parks throughout the day but we had sit down lunches or ice cream in air conditioned areas.
We didn't rush anywhere! Just took our time. The crowds were low so we didn't have long waits for rides and were able to accomplish everything that we wanted to.
One of the things we enjoyed the most was being able to swim in the resort pool until midnight every night - our DD7 and DS9 would tell you that this is one of the highlights of the trip. The August heat did not suck the energy out of the two of them!!
We are (actually I am) planning our next trip for the same time in August 2006 (DH doesn't know yet - but I'm working on planting the disney bug)

I agree, it's very hot and humid but bearable. Just make sure you drink lots and lots of water, even if you're not thirsty. Our last trip was in March so it wasn't too hot, but I bought a brita water bottle with me. It was very helpful and definitely economical. There are water fountains everywhere, so when I saw one I would fill up the bottle as much as I wanted. And the bottle had a built in filter, so I didn't taste that weird Disney water taste.

I've been to WDW many times in July and August. I also suggest you wear a hat and sunscreen even if it's overcast. It sounds crazy but you can definitely get a burn if it's cloudy! Take mid-day breaks... or if you want to sleep in a little, spend some time in the pool and head to the parks after lunch. THe parks should be open late during that time, so you won't have a problem fitting everything in.

Have a great time, and happy planning!!!! We're all here to help if you need it:-)

We have gone in Aug. several times and are going this Aug. as well. In comparsion with our trips in cooler weather, we move alot slower and get worn out quicker! We go to the parks early and take a break in the afternoon. Works out fine for us.

it is not that hot out their so don`t worry but, i would myself consider going in may. We just went the first week of may and it was beautiful out :cool1:

I went to WDW in August 2003, and not going to lie.. it was pretty hot, but it did rain almost the whole time we were there so that cooled things down quite a bit. On the clear sunny days though, it was hot but we still had a great time! Make sure to drink plenty of water!!
