Day One: My best friend since high school and I decided to make a trip to Disney without any kids and since we don't mind the hot weather, we decided to go in August! Boy, was it hot!!

We took a flight from Minneapolis early in the morning on Sunday, August 4. We were both so excited for the trip, we didn't get hardly any sleep the night before, but NO WORRIES! We had an uneventful trip except for the fact we had to sit on the tarmac for about 20 minutes waiting for a gate to open up.

Our FL Tours driver met us at the baggage claim. He was very professional, we made our grocery stop, and were dropped off at Port Orleans Riverside without any problems. I highly recommend this service and thanks to many others who recommended this service on the Boards!!!

Our check-in was a breeze because I had done the on-line check-in (again, I highly recommend using this). I had requested a top floor room in Building 90 but that wasn't going to happen. We were assigned a ground floor room in building 89. Oh, well, that's okay. It was closer to the main building, so we didn't demand a change. Our room was ready, but when we looked out the window to start the trek over to Building 89, it was pouring rain. So...we headed for the Food Court (it was about 1:30 p.m.) and had some pizza for lunch. It was really good!

By the time we finished our pizza, the rain had let up and we headed to our room. The heat was already getting to us and we were looking forward to a nice rest or some pool time. When we went to put our groceries in the refrigerator, BEHOLD, there was none! Well, something wasn't right! I called the desk to ask about it, and they told me there had been a major recall of all the refrigerators on the property and did we need it for medical reasons? Well, no, but what are our options? I was informed that there were plenty of ice machines on the property and sorry for the inconvenience. Really? It would have been nice to be informed about the absence of refrigerators in advance. It's a good thing we didn't buy milk or something that HAD to be kept cold constantly. That was a bummer!

After we got settled in, we took a walk around the grounds to check out the pool and walked all the way over to French Quarter to compare the Food Court there. It seemed like similar fare, so we decided to stick with our closer Food Court for the duration of the trip. It was overcast, but still very hot and humid.

After a short rest back in the room, we went to the marina and took the boat ride to Downtown Disney at 5 p.m. It was very pleasant and a nice way to get around. Our main objective was to use our $15 voucher at Planet Hollywood for our supper. There was a huge line by the time we got there, but we waited about 20 minutes and ordered a burger and fries for the two of us to share. We're not big eaters, so sharing a meal was good, especially after having such a late lunch. On our way back to the boat launch, we saw several street performers who were very good. My favorite was a man that was playing a guitar and a didger-ee-doo from Australia. It was an awesome sound! My apologies to any Aussies regarding the spelling of that instrument. It was very cool!

One other item was very interesting. Sometimes nature tops anything Disney can come up with. There was a large pine tree close to Planet Hollywood and right next to the bridge crossing by Fulton's Crab House. There were lots of large, white egrets roosting in the tree and others kept joining until almost every branch was used by a bird. All of a sudden, the total flock of birds took flight and flew around in a circle several times over the bridge and eventually back to the tree where they started their roosting routine again. It was awesome to see them in flight like that. Loved it!

We took the boat back to the resort about 9:00 p.m. We were tired and wanted to get a good night's sleep for our next day at EPCOT!!!!
