August Trip - Hot, Hot, Hot ANIMAL KINGDOM

When we looked at the news in the a.m. we heard that the heat index was going to be 103 degrees today. I was apprehensive because I had heard that Animal Kingdom was the hottest park. I have to say that Disney has done a great job of providing fans and misters along the trails that really help in handling the heat. The amount of trees and vegetation also helps!

We got to the park right at 9 a.m. and headed straight back to KILAMANJARO SAFARIS. It was about a 30-minute wait and we saw plenty of animals (rhinos, hippos, wildebeest, ostrich, and several types of antelopes).

We went to KALI RIVER RAPIDS to get a Fastpass, and had just enough time to go back down the trail for the first FLIGHTS OF WONDER show before our raft ride. The show is very entertaining and we enjoyed the various birds.

KALI RIVER RAPIDS was much shorter than I had remembered, but it felt good to get wet! I'm glad we didn't have to wait long. The standby line was 60 minutes.

We planned on eating lunch at FLAME TREE BBQ and it did not disappoint!! We each had a pork sandwich which was excellent! Highly recommended!
We had a very relaxing place to eat by the water.

After lunch, we headed over to DINOSAUR intending to get a Fastpass, but the standby line was only 20 minutes, so we rode. It was a lot faster and rougher than I had remembered, but we made it!

Next, we went to the 1:00 p.m. show of FINDING NEMO which was great!

We headed over to IT'S TOUGH TO BE A BUG and really enjoyed it. There were kids screaming and crying throughout the audience. I guess parts were pretty scary, but really??

We had a pretty long wait for the parade at 3:45, so we got a cookie and soda and did some window shopping. Guess what? It started raining but it only lasted about 10 minutes. We staked out a place for the parade and took part in a survey with a cast member. I gave my E-mail so we could give some feedback (hoping that I would be able to comment on the fact that we didn't have a refrigerator in our room) but there wasn't an opportunity to type any comments into the survey when I got home and took it.

The parade was pretty cute. Then it was time for FESTIVAL OF THE LION KING. We saved the best for last!! The show was so fabulous! I love the music from the movie and the performers were topnotch.

We got back to the room about 6:30 and had a salad supper and a relaxing evening at the pool.
Tomorrow is our final day at MAGIC KINGDOM!

It's been quite awhile since I've visited Animal Kingdom, but I will never forget the heat! Sounds like you had a great day aside from the heat.
And to comment on its tough to be a bug, my first time (around age 10) I was terrified!:sad2: haha, so I can only imagine how it is for even younger children. :lmao:
