Planning an August trip and we are somewhat concerned with the rain...we've been to Disney in August(years ago) and remember with the humidity there were often late afternoon showers...usually pretty hard down pours. Wondered how that effects the sites/loops in Ft. Wilderness.
Are there areas or loops/sites that are more prone to flooding than others.
We had hoped to stay in the 1400 loop...hopefully the outer loop towad the rear..as we noticed like the accesibility to the Meadow Pool and trading post was through the back of this loop. It was a preferred loop...as we want the cable hook up. However, I saw on a different site..that this might flood...anyone experience this in this loop? What can those of you who might have been there in August suggest for both preferred site. We prefer to be closer to the Trading Post and Pool. Did see the 300 loop...and liked that too..only was a bit far from the main pool.
Also..how do you find the bugs in summer..especially curious about sites that might border the canals...is this more buggy?

Okay folks...I'm starting to get the feeling I'm not wanted in FW in August.:(

We were on site 123 last Aug and spent much of our time underwater. Lots of flooding on that site, but we had very heavy rain for 2 weeks straight. I haven't stayed in 1400's so no advice there.

We tent camped on loop 1400 in September a few years ago, and had some pretty heavy rain. We were on the side of the loop nearest the campfire area, but toward the back side near the canal. While the site didn't exactly flood, we did have issues with keeping water out of the bottom of the tent. But that probably would have happened on a lot of the sites.

As for bugs, we were on 1400 this past October, in the same area of the loop as above, and the bugs were pretty active in the evenings. Again, it might be that way on other loops too.

HI

We always stay in the 300 loop, and for the first time last year we were flooded! Of course it was in August and it rained EVERY DAY! But we stay in a motorhome so it was not too bad for us. Really just the sandy part of the site flooded. We poked a little hole through the sand so the water would drain off into the ditch or grassy area behind our site and that helped a lot. Are you staying in a tent?

BTW, we really like the 300 loop it is the only one we stay in. We like the proximity to the marina and it is really just a nice bike ride to the pool each morning, for us the daily bike ride to the pool is one of the best parts of the day!

We will be back in June/July this year, and I am hoping for LESS rain:earseek:

Fantasia..we will be bring our Travel trailer down to FW. We liked the 300 loop and did consider it...we especially like a site to the right as you entered the loop...maybe one or two in...directly across from a basket ball hoop..thought this would be nice to have in loop...we have a 12 year old(oops..he'll be 13 by August). Out the back was a canal...pond type area..where you could also see a playground. I know this is also a pet loop. I guess that would be an option should we decide to bring the dog..but I'm leaning toward leaving him home...he is a Sheltie and has lots of fur..doesn't handle the heat well. He loves the AC! I wondered about being so close to the canal/water areas about the bug situation. I do like the outdoors and we would definetly be bringing the bikes. I just thought it might be far from the main themed pool since I know that's where my son will be wanting to spend alot of time. I did especially like that loop...is it close to bus transportation for leaving FW for the theme parks? Flooding is a major concern for us...as I know it does rain almost every afternoon in August. Thought I'd pick the brains of the folks here who have camped through this time of year.

I have stayed the last two Aug in the 1500 loop. Our site did flood but then we had the kids dig trenches to divert the water to under the wood around the pad. We just filled in the ditches before we left.

Dona  :wave2:

Good idea..about the trenches...have had to do our selves in other campgrounds..just wondered if it were more of a concern in August with the afternoon showers. Which can bring some pretty heavy fast rain.

 Not to happy to read about the flooding. Hopefully we'll get lucky.
