Hi everyone, can't believe it's only 4 weeks and a day til we are off... I'm thinking about what I need to take for baby (he'll be just off 11months) and I'm wondering about the temperatures particularly in the evenings.

I don't know if we'll get out in the evenings, we haven't really before because my older son has needed sleep, but I'm thinking that we might try it... how cool (or not) does it get in the evenings? What level of clothing do you think we might want? I have been in August before but many years ago, and without kids. Last few trips have been in Jan / Dec and so much cooler... have worn gloves and scarves a couple of times ;)

Thanks!

Also any tips for keeping Ds 2 cool and safe in the sun? I've got a fan for the pram... and loads of suncream, but the 50 cream seems to make him so much hotter :confused3

It will never get cool apart from inside where there is air conditioning! The evenings are more bearable though once its darker. I suggest a white cotton sheet for your son to sit on in his pushchair as most pushchairs are dark colours and this will just exacerbate the heat. Make sure he drinks a lot of water :)

Thanks that is helpful :) I am slightly worried about the heat... at least inside places have aircon, and we only plan on doing parks in the morning, or evenings (if up to it)... meals and swimming and naps will take up the rest of the day...

We have hired a double pram from somewhere or other, so have no idea what it will be like... a white sheet is a fab idea... :)

I filled up bottles with ice and juice and let DD hold them in her pram to cool off, then just topped them up again when they melted. Worked a treat, she was 15 months and never complained about the heat.

Parasol and a mist fan are a good idea too.

Love the ice bottles idea :) will definitely do that. Think we have a misting thing somewhere that we bought there before... I have a buggy hood extender, so hopefully that will work for extra sunshade. Thanks :)

We bought those water musters our first trip but personally don't like them. They are a pain to carry and just make me both hot and wet!!!! A little battery fan to waft in front of the baby might be better?

we always carry something to wear inside because of the freezer like air conditioning...

and take something to cover up in the rain - rain isn't really the right word - more like a wall of water....though the rain typically only hits in the afternoon, but if a tropical storm is in the area, you can get longer bouts of rain..

Thank you :)
We have proper fans for the buggy (although DH melted one of them over a bbq this avo so think we'll have to buy another :(

Had forgotten about something for the rain... I remember that from when we took teenage niece and nephews a few years ago, we used to get soaking feet and then freeze in the air conditioned restaurants... spare socks were a must in the bag, but I'd forgotten. Think the buggy we're hiring comes with raincover (must check)... lightweight waterproofs for us then it is!
