VH website is giving too much discount on flydrives but not all dates,
Dates that do work are 13th for 14 or 15 nights
For 2 adults and 1 child from Man or Gat £2,700ish from Glasgow £2,038 (less Quidco & FVC if a member) its showing Vaa flight adjustment of over £200pp for some reason.

Not working for our dates hope someone gets a deal.

Thanks to Ruth (mossyflossy) for spotting it.

Our dates too are showing the same price (a week later) with Manchester price £700 more. It's just with us having to get back to college for the Monday (OK Tuesday at latest on the return) - its whether we can be bothered driving all that way back!

Also we normally book flight only - do you have to get the car as we don't want one?

Virgin say you have to take the car or they charge £30pp unpackaging fee. I and many others just don't tell Disney, turn up at MCO and just ignore the car, never seen/heard anyone being charged the fee.

Hi Wayne, can I ask what dates you are travelling? Me, DH & DD have booked 14 nights for 4th Aug 2011 and looking for flights which are all silly money unless travelling indirect which we don't want to do. Just wondering how to go about this as a lot of people have said you need to book early :confused3

TIA, Debs x

Ideally we want 4th-28th August, DW has to work on the 3rd and be back to work on the 30th so thats the max we can do. 99% sure we have relatives going with us but only for the 1st 2 weeks so for them I an looking at 4th -18th (same as you)
Going back a few years it was almost always best to book as early as poss in last 2-3 years that has gone out of the window, airlines know people want to book early so they charge as much as they can from releasing seats (for summer holidays) Now its a guessing game whens the best time to book. Could be now, could be next March, no-one knows. For this August I booked in Jan but went for a deal I found in Biz class with Delta at £1,170pp, same day I booked Virgin wanted £1,300pp in economy but then a month or so later I could have got Virgin at half that price.

Have you ever done indirect? we find it no worse than direct, going out you get immigration done at the 1st airport so when arriving in Orlando its far easier, straight down to get your cases and out. Coming home you lose the cases in Orlando and don't see them til you get back to UK. Plus 9 times out of 10 the planes and service is far better than Virgin, they are not what they were. Most people say no to indirect but never try it. Maybe you have and had a bad experience but whichever is cheaper for us.
My friend said they would never go indirect, last year I got him the same deal as us, indirect Biz class for £470pp in August, even though he missed the connection he has asked for me to look out for indirect again this year, he said it was so easy and they have 3 kids.

despite having said id never do it, we flew home indirect viajfk.
we had a 90min layover, just enough time to get changed and eat something, it was ideal for us, broke up the journey home and made the 6hr flight to london better...
the only disadvantage was we hardly got any sleep as dinner was served, then a shorter period of flight...
would i do indirect again? deffinetly, the cost difference was amazing (approx £2500 for 5 of us) i can loose a few hours sleep for that:lmao: (though tbfit was a few days as i really struggled with jetlag this year;))

Hi Wayne, thanks for the info! I was worried about indirect flights incase the
the 1st flight got delayed and then poss miss the next, plus losing extra hol time taking longer? It just seemed quite a bit of hassle even tho its a lot cheaper. I am very spoilt having used virgin quite a few times, this year we flew by monarch mcr to sanford which wasn't to bad but the cheapest up to now is approx £2,800.00 for the three of us! Think I'd just better keep looking and hopefully get a miracle deal! :worship: Debs x

Thanx scojos too, may just have to look into flying indirect :) Debs x

As I said my friends missed their connect last year, you just get put on the next available flight but your rarely miss the connection if you aim for 2 hours from landing to departure.
With a 2 hour change it doesn't take much longer than direct if you use one of the East coast airports (New York, Washington, Charlotte, Atlanta or Philly) half of that time is taken up with immigration but then you save upto 1 hour when you land in Orlando as you go straight out. This year we arrived at our hotel about 2-3 hours later than if we would have flown Virgin (we were on the runway behind the Virgin plane at Manchester) but had the luxury of lay flat seats and a meal with about 6 or 7 courses incl Filet steak.

Most people would prefer direct but don;t rule out indirect, as Tracy as just posted £500pp saving over direct is something you have to consider if it comes up.

the cost difference was amazing (approx £2500 for 5 of us)
£2,500 less a bottle of Champagne for me:rotfl2:

Another vote for indirect here. I always said I would never consider it but had to when Globespan left us with no direct flights from Northern Ireland.

For next year I can get a direct flight from Dublin (2 hours drive) but am still favouring the indirect via Newark from Belfast - even at the same price :scared1:

Can't believe how I have changed my opinion.

Who do you usually fly indirect with? I'm fed up with the increasing Virgin prices.

Indirect I have used: American Airlines, North West Airlines, BMI, United, Delta, Continental, BA & US airways.
I will use anyone that gives me a low price :goodvibes

Also another :thumbsup2 for in-direct! To be honest, we don't really have a choice in Glasgow as Virgin only fly at peak times and from what I've heard I'm glad I don't really have Virgin as an option ;) Although if they were cheapest at a time I wanted to go I certainly wouldn't say no and they're supposed to be upping their Glasgow flights next year.

We missed our connecting flight with Continental this year due to the volcanic ash. However, they were very organised and actually "held" our connecting plane for us as they delayed it for what seemed to be all those who were late flying in :thumbsup2

I didn't know about that. I have complained for ages that they only fly a handful of days of the year. Although now I have been sold on the Continental flight via Newark. My other option is to do the one from Edinburgh (forget which airline now) that stops at Fort Worth for about 16 hours (overnight layover) as I have a good friend who I have been promising to see so we could make that an extra holiday day by overnight at the airport hotel.

I just booked our 2011 flights this week, Aug 6th-20th, horrific prices. Think I'll be paying it off for the next 3 years!

Let us know if you find a good bargain. I'll be both happy for you and envious at the same time. :-)

I will keep looking for now, some people have mentioned the January sales?? not sure if thats worth waiting for, crazy tho, i have seen whole packages flying with virgin in november for approx £550 inc hotel, we are staying at saratoga springs with the free dining which my DH doesnt want to give up, but I may be tempted to re-book a package deal! :) Debs x

That was my issue too. Have already booked Old Key West for next August, with free dining, and paid the deposit. Have also made many plans too, including my fiancee getting the time of work, which is very tricky. Which is why I felt tied into those dates and didn't want to cancel, so I've had to bite the bullet and pay the extortionate prices for Virgin Atlantic. BA were coming up even more expensive, and even indirect flights are coming out at similar prices thus far. I certainly wouldn't have booked for August if I'd known the flight prices in advance. You live and learn, I guess :-)

To be honest, I find Virgin horrendous for information on their Glasgow route! When I was looking for our flights I kept checking with them and it just kept saying "these dates are unavailable" but no options to see what days at all were available! It was so frustrating! Oh I've just found this which states 2 flights from Glasgow a day in 2011! One flight operates 02 Apr - 29 Oct '11 and the other 03 Apr - 01 May '11, 05 Jun - 04 Sep '11 and 02 - 30 Oct 11. Although I don't think that's every day inclusive as I've just checked dates next year and there's no flights available apart from on 1 date :confused3 I go back to my earlier statement, Virgin are horrendous in publicising information on the Glasgow route!
