August Crowds

How bad are the crowds during mid August during the week? My DH is going to be away for a month for a military assignment and I was thinking of a 3 day solo trip to DL.

How bad are the crowds during mid August during the week? My DH is going to be away for a month for a military assignment and I was thinking of a 3 day solo trip to DL.

Before August 20 the crowds are there but not nearly as bad as most people imagine them to be.

After August 21 they will pick up because of the unblocked AP holders.

The Dobies always go between August 1 and 18th or so and the crowds don't bother us at all. We never wait more than 20 minutes (unless for TSMM.) We get there when the park opens, but not 30 minutes before. We typically make a dinner reservation for every night, so we don't have to wait to eat, although sometimes we cancel, and we vacate by 1 or so every afternoon and then return at dinnertime. We use FP but we aren't commando about it and we usually have some to give away.

On a solo trip, you can use single rider line for Splash which is cool because you can use your fastpasses for something else! The other SR lines can take forever.

The nice thing about August is it is nice and hot, although typically not humid.

I agree with everyone, we love August but I would stay away from when the unblocking occurs. With new rides this year who knows how the crowds will shake out.

Whew .... glad to hear that August might NOT be too incredibly crazy. We're there August 15, 16, 17 (M,T,W) before the SoCal passes unblock, so hopefully it will still be do-able. Touring Plans has 10's for those days, but I've read here that they are less than reliable for DL.

Just remember it still will be very busy.
