I have a BLT 1BR SV villa reserved for August 20, 2011. I am curious if anyone was at WDW from August 21-28 2010. If you were, how were the crowds, weather, and ADR's. We usually go in the fall but I'm changing jobs and November is going to be too hard to get away.

Thanks for all of your help in advance.

We stayed at BLT August 23 - 30 2010. It was HOT but we expected it and planned accordingly. As the week wore on, the crowds seemed to get lighter and lighter. Sun, the 29th we got to MK when they opened at rode Dumbo with practically no line and then Peter Pan 2 times in a row with no wait. Saturday the 28th we were at DHS and it was not so busy. At our lunch ressie we said to the waiter how slow it was.... He said Sat is a big check in, check out day. My only advice id you plan on eating at any restuarants is to make your ressies at 180 days.....That has been free dining the last two years and the good places get taken quick! Have a great time. We plan on going back again same time again for 2011---

It's just too hot for me. Even the crowd is light, I just can't enjoy myself in that weather.

We were there that week this year. It wasn't that hot, but rainy. One REALLY hot day and one rather rainy one. We usually go in October. Crowds were fine - maybe a little more crowded than the fall, but since we usually are there during Food and Wine and MNSSHP, for the most part not really noticable.

I havent been in August but I am preparing for it to be hotter than sin. Besides that I am waiting to hear what others have to say.

We have gone a few times end of August. Like everyone has said, hot and humid. Also ponchos are a must. Just be prepared. Get to the parks early, take a break early in the afternoons for a few hours and then head back out to the parks early eve.

I's hot but doable and get ready to sweat a little, lol.

I agree with this :thumbsup2. We've been to Orlando four times in August (3 WDW trips and 1 Universal/SW trip). We have our next trip planned for Aug 14-19, 2011. I am not a person who enjoys being hot but if you break for a few hours in the middle, hottest part of the day - it is definitely doable. The weather here in RI was pretty hot and humid this past summer - I'd rather be hot in WDW than hot at home :)! I'd say try it.....if you absolutely hate the experience, you never have to do it again.

Had our 4th August trip last month. We usually have gone down around 8/13 or so, staying for a week. And the weather as always been brutal. But last year, they moved the free dining dates and they coincided with our arrival days...way too many people to deal with in that heat. So, this year I changed our time to the last weekend in July, leaving on Aug 12. All I can say is...never again. There were actually days that my dd and I refused to go to a park during the day. We stayed in, all day long, and then headed to a park for dinner and the evening hours. It was just too darn hot/steamy during the day. Even the locals were complaining about the excessive heat/humidity this summer. Not taking that chance ever again.

We've gone the last week of August for the past 3 years. Yes it is HOT and humid but doable. Bring your ponchos to the parks everyday because it usually rains in the afternoon and drink lots of water! We have found the crowds medium level-use Fastpass and lines shouldn't be an issue. Because of free dining restaurants will be crowded so make your ADRs.

We were there from Aug. 18-24 this year. My birthday is the 19th so it was my first time celebrating at WDW and will probably be my last. I am used to the heat (we live in west Texas) but the humidity was more than we could take. The hours are later in the summer and we did take advantage of that but it was still really uncomfortable for us. I did notice though on the news each night that they were saying that the temperatures were about 7-8 degrees higher than normal so maybe next year won't be as hot.

We were there the first week in August this year. I passed out and got a "fast pass" on an ambulance to the Celebration Hospital. Never again will we go in August.

We went in Aug this year and yes it was hot but we managed fine. It rained for a sort amount of time on one day. Just go to the parks early, take a pool break in the afternoon, then head back to the park in the evening. Oh, and don't forget the ponchos!:thumbsup2

You are really going to have to make your ADR's at 180 days because free dining starts after Aug 20th in 2011.

We plan on going the same week as you but we are planning lots of down time at the resort. Not too worried about the crowds or weather cause I expect crowds and heat and rain in the summer. Unfortunately it's the only time our family can go. We also use to always go in Nov and love it that time of year. Oh well, we'll still be in Disney even if we are sweating and walking in the pouring rain through crowds of people to wait 2 hours for Toy Story Mania! :lmao::rotfl:

We always go in August, except next year we'll be going in the fall for the first time.

August can be very hot, with rain in the afternoon that cools things down a bit but then it gets hot again. We don't mind the hot weather, we adjust accordingly. We get to the parks early, leave after lunch and then go swimming at the resort. After that we rest a bit then shower and change for dinner at one of the table service restaurants. After dinner we head back to the parks for a couple of hours.

It's not a bad time of year to travel to WDW, especially if you visit during the last ten days or so when a lot of kids are back in school. The parks are still open late too.

My family always used to go the last week of August when my sister and I were in school and we never had a problem with crowds. We did a last minute trip last August - August 21-August 30 and it was just as I always remembered it. It was extremely hot, but the crowds were not bad at all. I'm the type that doesn't have patience for crowds and would never go during the high seasons, and I definitely didn't think the crowds were bad. The crowds even seemed lighter than the two times I went in May. You'll have a great time. Just make sure to bring lots of water and take afternoon breaks since the afternoons can be brutal.

We just went August 15-22, 2010 and we're going back August 14-23, 2011.
I can't stand the heat, but I teach so it is the optimal time for us to travel.

We felt we prepared well by drinking lots of water and balancing the attractions - inside with air condition then outside. We had the spritzing fans and we drank lots of dole whips :) We brought multiple ponchos from the dollar store for each person so we could air them out in between showers. Nobody was really that uncomfortable and we had ages ranging from 3 - 68.

This past year we didn't spend a lot of time at the hotel pool because I was trying to pack it all in (not knowing when we'd return). Then on our last day we became DVC members so this trip I plan on lots of down time at the BLT pool!

It will all be fine as long as you know what you're getting yourself into...
Take Care,

The beauty of DVC is that we visit often and have learned to pace ourselves when we visit the parks. So we follow up long outdoor waits for rides with a nice lunch at a TS restaurant with A/C or an indoor show or attraction; coupled with lots of water and plenty of pool time. We visited 8/14 thru 8/22 this summer and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves despite the heat.
