August 9, 2011 (8/9/2011) Taking the Wonder to see the AMERICAN CHILD

We have a 17yo who spent time last summer in the Teens club while on the Baltic. Our DD12 thinks of Barb's DD17 (also on the Baltic cruise) as another older sister.

Yup, we have the other 17yo 'big sister'. So there's several girls around your DD's age.
Now she does get picky about the teen club but tends to spend more time there on longer cruises than shorter cruises. We were on the Dream last month on a 4 day cruise and the only time she was in there was not long after we board to look around. She even missed the free smoothies last month :scared1: :sad2: . Now for this cruise she may not be in there much since, I'm sure, she'll be hanging around DJ Frankie when he's out and about working. :rotfl2:

Thanks so much-I hope we can meet you all!
We don't want her to feel she has to "hang out" with the adults.

Our 14yo DD will be on the cruise. This will be her 9th DCL cruise, but first time in the Teen club. She is looking forward to it and meeting new friends!

Knowing our 3 girls (plus one other 13yo that my youngest is excited to see again) I'm fairly certain that your girls will have loads of fun and make new friends!

Perdita&Pongo - Nancy 47
DH - David 48 (atoc)
DD - Megan 14
DD - Emma 8 (atoc)

This will be our 9th DCL cruise:
1,2,3,4 Bahamas
5 Panama Canal Eastbound Crossing
6 Western Carribean
7 Mediterranean
8 TransAtlantic Westbound
9 Alaska

I was taking a look at the first post updates and realized we hadn't been added yet to the list of cruisers.

Jilljill, could you please add us at your next update? Thanx much!

Sorry about that, you are there now.
I'm just filling in the spots where I've had to delete posters that have cancelled.

I really hope the world doesn't end at 6 pm tonight, because I am really, really looking forward to our cruise! :rolleyes1

What are people planning to bring? I hope cruisers before us tell us what they wore. I don't want to bring any more than we actually need. Fleece/sweaters/sweatshirts - yes. raingear - yes. clothes for dinner - yes. But in August will we need boots? hats and mittens? shorts? short-sleeve shirts? :confused3

We are flying AirCanada which does allow free checked bags, but still.... you have to haul it all around before the cruise and store it in the cabin!

Layers.. zip off pants, jeans, sweatshirts, rain pants and rain jacket..t shirts..

I went and booked excursions for each port just in case our ABD add-on gets cancelled. Figured I'm better off being safe than sorry. I can still cancel them up to 3 days before sailing, but at least we have a back-up plan.

When booking them I noticed that I wasn't able to book a couple of them since there wasn't enough space for 3 people even tho they were showing as available. I wish DCL would really improve their website to be more user friendly. Not know what times that were available when overlooking the excursion info was very frustrating. I ended up booking 1 at a time and then going back to see if it would let me book a second one since I had no clue what times were available. :headache:

We are also going to be on this cruise and very excited

Cyndi ~ 5th disney cruise
Sharon ~ 1st disney cruise
Marcy ~ 1st disney cruise
Lucinda ~ 4th disney cruise

WE are a group of Moms who wanted to travel to Alaska and when Disney announced it..I KNEW I was going and recruited my "Domette" friends to come along!

We are from MN. so the weather shouldn't be a issue with us!

I keep reading the boards and followed the Blogs of the first group of travelors
to Alaska...and I am just so EXCITED!!!

Add us to your list and looking forward to running into some Disers *Ü*

Cyndi

Welcome Cyndi and friends. I've added your group to the first post.

Hi jilljill,

While you are in an updating frame of mind, I noticed that we are also not on the list of cruisers. Could you add us? USUKMama - Sophia, DH - Rich, DS-10, DS-7 & DD-4.

Thank you!

Sophia

Hi Everyone!

My family and I are on this trip too. We are excited and in the middle of booking our excursions. Has anyone heard about or done the Musher's Summer Dog Sled Experience? and if you've heard anything about it...is it worth 132.00??? We were thinking of going on the excursion in Skagway but we switched our White Pass Railroad excursion to the Steam Engine Train (at the recommendation of the White Pass Representative) and now we can't go on the dog sled. Disney has a 7:45-11:15 excursion for the dog sled but will not let me book it since the White Pass Steam Engine meets at 11:45. I am wondering if I should try and book it on my own before of after the train ride?? I have a four year old and thought she may enjoy it....Any opinions?

Also, we are staying at the Fairmont Pacific Rim for 3 days before the cruise...I was reading on the boards that Disney will transport your luggage to the port for you from the hotel...Does anyone know if that is only if you book the hotel thru Disney? book the transfers thru Disney? or is it open to any hotel guest? We booked the Fairmount on our own as it was cheaper then booking with Disney...I called the Fairmont and the told me a cab ride is less then 10.00...but if I can go to the port without my luggage...that would be even better!

Welcome aboard!

I suggest you ask your excursion questions on the AK excursion thread that is on the main cruise boards. Also, you can ask your baggage question on the Vancouver info thread or just read back a few pages on the thread to see if it's already been discussed on there.

You can also look on cruisecritic.com at their AK boards for info on your excursions.
