August 7th, 2010 Mediterranean Cruise

I recently booked the med cruise (with the kids free incentive)
We did the Disney Med Cruise in 2007 and did 1/2 the ports
on our own 1/2 with Disney. Rome is very easy to do on your own, but
Florence is over 2 hrs by train from the port so it was much easier to use Disney.
I created a planning website and have uploaded all the previous excursions
disney provide with their costs

www.worldofmouse.com

This cruise doesn't have the kids free incentive, right? :confused3

Correct. The kids free special is only for April and May.
We are going on the Baltic cruise over the summer and decided to add this cruise because the kids free rate was so good

Hi Everyone -

Glad to see some new posts! It has been pretty quiet. I can't believe it is finally less than a year away!! I am so anxious to find out what DCL has planned for excursions, but it hasn't stopped me from starting to plan on my own. I have already booked our pre-night stay in Barcelona for two nights at Hotel 1898 and even reserved some private tours already for the Italy ports of call. Keeping my eye on flights right now for Boston to Barcelona. Curious for those of you who have cruised the Mediterranean before...when did you book your fights???

I can't wait for this trip...so excited! :cool1:

For the 2007 Med cruises, I booked in May for July flights . . . however, when I flew to Europe this summer I had bought tickets in January when some great sales came out. My advice is to figure out a price you would like, and follow the prices and buy whenever you see prices, times, etc., that you would be happy with (then don't keep checking since you will kick yourself if they go down again!).

Good advice Julie...because I "will" kick myself if the prices go down drastically! I have never traveled somewhere where flights were so expensive so it is hard for me to know just yet what price I would be comfortable with. Only time will tell...

Keep an eye on Aer Lingus - if you are willing to change planes in Dublin, often they have very, very good prices and I know they fly from Boston. They often have sales in January, too. I think you should be able to get something around $700-800 RT pp on Aer Lingus from Boston-Barcelona if you get a sale.

Julie what is the due date for full payment for this cruise?

Hi Robert - I just checked my confirmation - looks like 9 April 2010 at 11:59 PM . . .

Thanx Julie that gives me ab idea on cancelation availability for this cruise!:thumbsup2

Funny how the repo is due later!

It is funny -- the Baltic is due in March, the Med in April, and the repo in between them is due in May!:lmao:

Hi Julie -

Thanks for the air suggestion. I actually would LOVE to stop in Dublin, but looks like I would need to leave earlier that day than what DCL recommends in order to catch that flight. DCL's recommendation of securing a flight after 12:30pm limits many of my flight choices home to Boston.

I can't believe you are going on those three cruises next year...SO JEALOUS!!!

It's worth thinking about spending one more night in Barcelona if the Aer Lingus rate is as much lower than other rates (as it usually is) . . . you could still come out ahead and get a relaxing exit from the ship and one more day to enjoy Barcelona. Just keep looking at everything and juggling your priorities and you will figure out what to do:goodvibes

Oh we would LOVE to stay longer after the cruise in Barcelona especially since our friends are moving there in December, but we are spending time there before the cruise and need to get home right after the cruise.

Does anyone know what would be consider a "good price" for RT between LAX and Barcelona? Just want to get an idea when I should "jump" on the airfare. BTW - how can you check prices already? The sites I use only allow searches up to 330 days in advance.

Not sure about LAX-BCN . . . you could pm a friend of mine here on the Dis (danfromca) and ask him since he flew to Barcelona from northern California in 2007 for our Med cruise.

British air is allowing bookings now for most of next August, but you are correct that most will not allow it year. I was estimating what Aer Lingus might be from previous experience, but of course one never knows for sure. So much depends on the economy, fuel prices, etc.

It's been a while since I've posted. Too many vacations. Not enough time. :lmao:

Wondering if anyone here knows anything about when the Passporter Guide for the 2010 DCL cruises is going to be release. Please tell me that they ARE going to do one. We need it more for this cruise than any other. So much information to digest but I've found so much good stuff in Passporter for past cruises that I feel a real need. And time's a wasting for me to be able to learn what I need to know too! :scared1: Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Well everyone, after thinking about this alot, we have cancelled this cruise. We are now booked on Holland America for 1/2 the price in a room that is bigger (yes 1/2). We loved our previous disney cruises, but as this cruise is so port intensive we didn't feel justified in paying the premium. Enjoy everyone.

We also found a brand new ship with a bigger room for half the price. The money we save will pay for the air. We are sure a great time will be had by all regardless of cruiseline.

Hi all,

Just to let you all KNow I've kinda jumped ship.

This evening I've just transferred our booking to 16th Aug 2011 ALASKA:scared1:

I'm still in shock

I will miss seeing you on the Med, Helen, and I am also doing Alaska, but the week AFTER you (August 23) so we are destined not to cruise together, it seems.:sad:

If anyone has stateroom 5520 and plans to cancel, please let me know! I am in that stateroom for the two cruises prior to this one, but could only get 5522 for this cruise and may have to move:confused3 So many cancellations! Maybe DCL will have to do a kids sail free or something;)
