August 6, 2005 Mexican Riviera..Who's In?

I talked to my Mom today. She sees the surgeon and anesthesiologist Friday. They are going to talk about having her go to a rehabilitation facility for 2 weeks after her surgery, which means I would change my tickets and not go up until she is ready to come home.

I have my fingers crossed that it works out for you. I also wish your mother a speedy recovery, I need to look back and see what you said was going on with her.

How far away is your mother? My parents are moving from 45 miles away to 5 miles away next month. They live near my brother and two sisters now, but they wanted to be in a quieter, more country setting and have their own house rather than a condo (Over age 55 community so no yardwork or anything). I can be here if they need me, but they will also be around if we need someone for Jessica once in awhile.

Yesterday was my 45th birthday, it was very nice. My DH bought me a bracelet, a dozen roses and a card. I got a PM and an email from the DIS which was very nice, it is my 1st birthday on the DIS boards.

Cathy

Happy Birthday Cathy!
Stacey - what kind of surgery is your Mother having? I agree that she may get more qualified care at a rehab. I took care of my Mother when she had her knee replaced, when she fell and broke her hip and again when she was dying from pulmonary fibrosis 18 months ago. It is very hard to take care of someone you love, especially when they are in pain, but I am glad I was able to do it (but I am a nurse so I'm used to it, but not with it being a loved one) I wish you luck and her a quick and easy recovery.

Happy Belated Birthday Cathy!!:cake: :bday:

Wow, a husband who buys flowers and gifts! Cool. My DH lets me buy my own. LOL.

Mom is having hip replacement surgery. They live back "home" in Omaha, NE. Two hour flight, or a two day drive....guess which one I pick??
I hope Mom doesn't go telling the doc today that her daughter will be there to take care of her, so therefore, she doesn't need to go to rehab. I think the rehab would be far better for her. Plus, maybe the weather will get better between now and then!
Why couldn't my parents have moved to Florida like all the other old people in the midwest??
But then I'd be bummed about being so close to the Mouse House, and not being able to go! Boy, you just can't win sometimes.
Off to work...TTYL
Stacey

Mom is going to rehab for a week, so I get an extra week here to get caught up! Yea!

I just hate having work sitting staring me in the face. That's why I am so diligently painting my laundry room right now. Not.

We fell off the page, guys....where is everyone? It must be me.

Stacey, glad to hear your Mom is going in the rehab for a week. It'll give her a good start on the physical therapy and she'll be past the more severe pain part by the time you go to help.
Better go do some chores, my house is a mess!
Vickie

Lucky me, I spent my entire weekend painting the laundry room....all by myself. Jay is the one who decided to empty the entire room...why did I have to paint it? My back is killing me, my arms ache.....OKAY...whining over.
On that subject anyway. WHEN is DCL going to post our shore excursions (oh please, not this subject again)
I sort of kind of tried to tell Jay that we were going on this cruise today. (Correct...he doesn't know). He said he has absolutely NO DESIRE to see the Mexican Riviera. Or Mexico. He said we can drive 20 miles south into Phoenix to see Mexico. I told him (although I have no idea whatsoever.....) that I heard the snorkeling is GREAT. (if it isn't, I am a dead duck).........That almost lit him up a little. SO much for giving him this cruise as a Valentine gift. He needs more time after the Christmas cruise. Maybe I'll give it to him as a 4th of July gift!

I fell asleep after painting from 10 am to 5:30, now I am wide awake. Guess I'll scan and edit pictures.

Have a great Monday!

Stacey

Cool....I got a T.O.P. for all my complaining!!!

Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone!

I was in New Hampshire this weekend, just got back today. My friend gave me some bath loofas (sp?) and pampering stuff including a battery operated massager pillow.

Glad your mother is going to rehab a week first too Stacey.

My DH would not want to talk about another vacation so soon either, but give him a few months at work and he will want to get away. At least this time is a shorter trip for you guys as far as flying, right?

Cathy

Cathy, a very happy and belated :bday: . I have to agree, a DH that gives jewelry, flowers AND a card - he's a keeper ::yes::

We went to Williamsburg for the long weekend and just got back a couple of hours ago. It was nice but very cold. But then any place sure beats being home and doing chores.

Stacey, just tell Jay that he will get to spend the week with me, picking on you, together. That should get him all excited for the trip :rotfl:  :earseek: .

Stay warm and dry everyone.

You're probably right, Barb.....you get to take Garry and Vicki's place for this cruise. They had fun making fun of me. I didn't care, as long as the Banfi kept getting poured!

Cathy, a little over an hour flight. That's why I have been wishing and hoping all this time for DCL to come to California....see my tag??
But you're right, if I give him a little more time back at work, he'll be the first one on the plane!

My doggie has been missing for 2 days now. Putting up posters and looking everywhere. She is a big chicken, and would never stay away. A lot of thoughts have gone through my head, but I'm trying not to go there. Not knowing is the worst.

Mom came through her surgery with flying colors. I may be able to call her tomorrow.

'Night!

Ok, winter can be over now. It's snowing out and it's 21°.

Yes Barb, the weather is lovely on the East coast lately! It is snowing today (only a little expected), it was -4 degrees yesterday morning, and we are expecting a Nor'easter on Sunday if it comes our way.

A woman next to me at my Weight Watcher's meeting today is going on a 10 day cruise next week (not sure what line). I was envious... Everyone was giving her suggestions to not gain too much weight. I told her about my cruise in April where I didn't gain too much (and I ate a lot) because of all the walking and stair climbing. We stay on Deck 7 so it is up to 9 and 10 a lot, then down to dining, etc. We only took the elevator a few times to try it really.

Cathy

We fell to 2nd page. Well, I was talking about CT weather and now we are expecting a blizzard Saturday! In my area they say we'll get 18 inches.

Cathy

Cathy, sorry to hear your prediction of 18 inches. They are calling for 6-10 inches here. At least the kids won't miss any school because of the snow.

I've been in bed with a fever most of the day. It hit me all of a sudden late yesterday afternoon. I really don't like winter.

Hi everyone, just checking in. I've had a bad week, my DD Sara spent 3 days in the hospital this week. She was holding our kitten and the dogs got out and he got scared and bit her on her middle finger. The joint got badly infected and they had to put her on IV antibiotics and thought they might have to do surgery to drain it. Luckily the antibiotics alone worked they didn't have to operate. I just got her home a couple of hours ago and I'm looking foreward to my bed very soon! The bedside cot in the very noisy, light all night hospital room just didn't allow for much sleep. And of course she would not let me leave her bedside for more than a minute so I'm exhausted!
Vickie

Vickie...sorry to hear about that...I know how your daughter feels. I took a "Missing" poster of the dog to our local animal rescue, and while I was there, one of their stray cats bit me. I had to go to the doc...he said I was extremely lucky that it didn't get infected. And the only reason he thinks it didn't is because I had just been on major antibiotics for the cold that I had. And normally I wouldn't have thought about a silly cat bite at all, but they tell me they can be nasty. So glad you're home, and all is on it's way to being "normal".

I am NOT listening to cold weather stories...it is supposed to be snowing when I get to Omaha on Friday. Why....why....why couldn't she have had her surgery in the Spring????
She's doing really well, though...so that's good.

And still no Molly. (huge sigh)

TTFN....thanks for "rescuing" us, Cathy!

Vickie, sorry to hear about your DD's ordeal and your week. Glad she's doing better and here's to a good night's rest for both of you.

We have gotten about 8 inches of snow for today and we are supposed to get more tonight. I just talked to a friend of mine and he said it's very icy out. I guess DH needs to leave a few minutes early for work tonight. Now I know he has to leave a few minutes early since the snow plow just came down the street (for only the 2nd time today) and blocked in the driveway a bit more. He will just say no problem and put the truck in 4 wheel drive to get out.

I think my fever may have finally broken this time, I've been hungry this evening. It broke last night, only to wake up with it again this morning. So I guess I had the 48 hour bug, instead of the 24 hour bug.

A lot has been going on with everyone I guess. Glad your DD is okay Vickie and that you are feeling better Barb. Sorry you were bit too Stacey.

I can't tell how much snow we got, it is all drifted around. It is nice to stay in all weekend. I have gotten some projects done like sorting through the papers on my desk and laundry. We watched movies yesterday and it is cozy.

Cathy

With all this snow, and everyone being sick......just think, pretty soon we will be able to say "SIX Months" !!!

And I remember asking Cathy to post when we hit the one year mark! See how fast it's going??

Are we excited yet??!!!:cool1: :Pinkbounc :cheer2:

You know, one of my first thoughts when they were admitting Sara to the hospital was "I'm sure glad this isn't the week we're going on our cruise" so I guess we're all pretty excited and ready to go! :Pinkbounc
Vickie

You know you're in "trouble" when every move you make, every decision, every thought, revolves around the cruise!

Before the 10 Night, I got to the point where we would get through our softball games, or Jared's soccer, and think "Cool, no injuries....only one more game to go and it will be smooth sailing!"

:cool1:
