Welcome back Stacey! How was your trip? Did your daughter have fun and meet some friends?

I wore my DCL tee shirt to Jazzercise this morning and another woman commented on it. Apparently she was on the Wonder in April while I was on the Magic! Then we wanted to talk about it but we had to keep exercising when the next song started. We stayed after class to talk. That was her first DCL cruise, but she is a DVC member and I am not.

Yesterday my DH was watching the Travel channel and called me in to see the top category stateroom services on a Norwegian cruiseline ship. Something like $26,000 for the week, but major pampering and concierge services. Guess that is how the rich or famous travel if they don't charter a private yacht... They had yoga instructors, massages, salon treatments right in their room. They had their own large private deck with a jazzucci. It was twice the size of the Deck 7 aft deck at least! That ship has the free dining where you choose a restaurant and time to go each night.

I wish I had a trip coming up sooner like you guys! I need to look at my finances and see what I can come up with. I just got a raise, but I increased my 401K amount because I am starting to get nervous about how much money I need when I retire, I want to live as I've grown accustomed to (vacations!!).

 Cathy

I wish we had the Travel Channel. I would love to do a vacation like that.....when I win a major lottery ::yes:: .

I HATE that we have the Travel Channel. It just makes me jealous, and gives me ideas of how to spend money.

Cathy, it sounds like you fit in with jilljill and I pretty well. Travel is my middle name. Retirement??? Was I supposed to be planning for that??

Wow....$26,000 for a week.....I think if I booked us on that, the captain would be performing his first "Divorce at Sea"!!

Back later!

If they have 2 suites like that and I booked one too, he could perform 2 "Divorces at Sea". But, at least we would have each other to drink wine with :drinking: . That is if we didn't get thrown overboard first :sad2: :scared1: .

We have always said that DD was born with wheels on her butt, because we don't like to stay home and do travel a lot.

I am going to start traveling more, you only live once and you don't know how long you have. We work hard for the money and should enjoy some of it now (a little Donna Summer there).

Cathy

Cathy that is exactly how we see things. We did buy a time share so that makes it much easier to travel. Although, my parents are getting to use it more than we are this year. But it also 'forces' us to make earlier plans and attempt to try other places we haven't been before.
Our trip to Ireland, earlier this year, was not done thru the time share. We travelled in the off season and I found a great deal on hotels, car and airfare that we couldn't pass up. When we travel overseas I spend many, many hours researching fares to get the best deals. I actually enjoy searching for the deals. It makes my DH crazy - sometimes I will have 3 or 4 hotels booked, but somehow I manage to keep them all straight and only end up with one.
Happy travelling ::yes::

We took care of my father in law these last two years after his 3rd stroke...jilljill already knows this...he passed away in March. He had his own business from the time my DH was a baby. The man never quit working. Never took them anywhere, except driving to visit relatives. The first time my DH saw Disneyland was when he was stationed in CA with the Marine Corps.
His dad worked hard, made great investments (thank you Dad!) but never went anywhere or spent any money on himself.
Then it was too late for his dad to go anywhere. I think it has had a major impact on my DH. Now he wants to go more places, do more with the kids, and work less. (We own our own business, too)
We always took one Caribbean trip every two years, and Disney almost every year....but now we are gone several times a year.

It has always been in my blood....my parents and I traveled all over after my two brothers left home. And before that, we went at least a couple times a year somewhere.

I moan and complain about packing, unpacking, laundry, catching up at work....but I do love going away.
I wonder if that has some deep meaning...???

And I got the Donna Summer thing before you said it, Cathy!!!

Night guys!

My problem is that I am not a good bargain hunter. I usually just go to AAA and tell them where I want to go. I hear about people going online to look for airfare and hotels. I don't understand my friend who drives all over to many stores for bargains, I could not spend all that time.

I hear what Stacey said about her father-in-law, my father would love to visit his brother in Arizona and see Ireland. My mother doesn't like to fly (and he is nervous to) or really go too far at all. My Dad talks about taking a train to Arizona. As for Ireland, I said they should take the QE2 or Queen Mary over (they can afford it). I think I have to plan it for them before it is too late.

:(

Cathy, I love to make my own plans and hunt for deals. In fact I have made ressies for some of friends too. They say it's my 'job' and it keeps me out of trouble, sort of. I would hate to just go somewhere and have them make all my plans - I wouldn't feel like I had control over the situation.
Part of the reason I do like doing it is because my dad used to fly over 250,000 miles a year and he told his TA where/how he was flying and at what time, where to book his hotel and what car to book. He did all the legwork for her.

I really hope you can get your parents to AZ and hopefully to Ireland too. Life is too short to stay at home.

Cindy.....you need to BRING your parents to AZ, and come visit me!!!

Who the heck is Cindy?!? Did you open that bottle of cheap champagne tonight?

This :umbrella: has really got to stop. We are going to need an ark soon ::yes:: .

I'm sure you can see where this is leading.....
