August 5th 2012, Magic- NY to Canada

This will be our first cruise ever, and we're very excited about it. :yay: Going to WDW three times this year, decided we needed something different for 2012. Glad to be sailing out of NYC. We are booked in an outside stateroom on the 7th deck (Cat. 9A I think) - I hope that's a good one. :confused3 My daughter will turn six on 8/9 - we could never go to WDW in August, so we're excited to celebrate her birthday with Disney. I'm really looking forward to the cruise even though it's so far away - I promise to keep my newbie questions to a minimum :-)

Just booked our cruise on the Magic for August 5th today. :woohoo: My DH and DD (9yrs old) and I took our first Disney Cruise this April on the Dream. We started looking for our next vacation when we got home and were excited when we found out the new itineraries from NYC.

Boy this is a very quiet thread. Maybe we will have the whole ship to ourselves. We are doing the Hawaiian one for our 45th anniversary and we are already up to 140 pages. Maybe as time gets closer more will join us- if not we will have Mickey and the gang to ourselves.

We are booked as well. Just myself and my DD who will be 13....Pretty sad that we Canadians are going to New York, to get on a ship, to visit the east coast of our own country! :rotfl2:

Lisa

Hi Lisa,

We are on this one as well. We are headed to Alaska this year, but I am missing the Med.

Hope to see you on board!

Susie

Trying to convince the DW to let me book this cruise when we are on our first ever cruise in November. :rolleyes1

Book it, if only to hold the cabin category. Then, in November, if you like cruising, go to the desk onboard and re-book it. Even if the price has risen slightly, you'll get the 10% discount and the onboard credit, as well as the category of cabin you prefer.

Of course, if you're green on board, you won't want to cruise again and you can cancel the booking and get your deposit back.

E-Z!

Hi!

We're booked on the Aug. 5th cruise, but might have to change dates or cancel if our kid's band camp doesn't match. It's always been the first full week of August. We're very close friends w/ several adult leaders who will be at the camp. One is even a DVC member. I couldn't be unavailable if I didn't feel that we had people right there at camp in case we couldn't get back. We decided the 5 day would be perfect for just us DH (46) & DW-me (42). We'd be home in time for the end of camp concert & to pick them up. We'll be celebrating our anniversary 19 years--who says you have to wait for an even number.

Cross your fingers for us! :wizard: We booked while onboard the June 14th Alaskan cruise--which was amazing. I took off my ticker, b/c it made me too sad, b/c we all miss Alaska & Canada. I think we'll have plenty of people onboard. Many of the rooms I 1st requested were gone. And of course the early birds got the SPH. ;) We're in Room 5018 for those that might be near by in those SPH.

This will be our 5th cruise next year. We'll get to GOLD CC before our kids. I wonder how that will work on the cruise after that w/ the kids??

Anyone ever do this??? :confused3

Hi! I had read here some post that the kids get the same things at the parents. Maybe a call to DCL will be in order to make sure of what will happen.

Yes it is!! Dont worry, my husband and I are not quiet people and you will have to fight with us if you want Mickey for yourself lol :rotfl2:

Hi All,

Not been on here for a while. I am getting excited about flight booking in around 2 months time and hoping for a decent price!

Once the flight is booked I will feel more like we are REALLY going and can focus on paying off the cruise and our NYC hotel room and then getting some spending money.

All of our cruises on Disney so far we have very much done our own thing in the ports and I think this will be no different - it suits us with young kids as we can change our plans to suit how the day is going and it keeps the costs down so I can splurge on photos! This time I definitely need to be careful with onboard spending as I want to have lots left for our four or five days in New York post cruise.

I have been researching hotels - there are 3 aduls and two kids in our group so I really wanted a suite style room so that the adults can hang out once the kids are sleeping. Doubletree Times Square seems popular along with Marmara which is like suites \ mini apartment type accommodation. Anyone have any experience of either or have any suggestions for accommodation that might suit a group of 5 with small kids who will sleep earlier than the adults!?

We have stayed at the Doubletree Times Square in the past and quite enjoyed it. You really need to shop around for prices....I have seen the price change by $200 per night between when i first booked and when i actually went.....new York is a great city for kids -- it's one of my daughter's favourite places to visit!

DH and I are booked. We booked as soon as it was realeased. This will be our 3rd cruise - so supper excited. We are leaving DD home with her grandparents and let me tell you that was hard to decided, but she is so excited that Mommy and Daddy are goign without her, because PopPop will allow her to do anythign she wants for a week.

I am glad to see more people on this thread. I guess I will have to share Mickey and his friends, but I don't mind.

Thanks, glad to hear from someone who has used the hotel. I will shop around for prices but will also be on the lookout for any other hotels which would work for us.

You might also want to check vrbo.com It is a site that does vacation rentals by owners, so you can sometimes get accommodation for larger groups for a reasonable price - I've used it for Florida but never for NYC.

We are booked for this cruise and are looking forward to departing from NYC where we don't have to fly. We are from the Boston area.

Lori and Ralph
Rachel (will be 20 at sailing time)
Natalie (will be 17 1/2 at sailing time)

This will be our 11th cruise and our first at Platinum!

I have also started looking for a hotel for the night before (we are about 4 hours away from the port). I would like somewhere where we can park our car so we don't have to pay for parking at the port. We are also hoping to catch a play the day before.

Hi Fellow Cruisers!
I'm getting excited since we're FINALLY nearing the 1 year count down until our cruise! lol
I noticed today that the Disney Store online has lots of DCL goodies for sale. I purchased a couple of neat lanyards that will hold our KTTW card and a bit more.
Looking forward to sharing hotel finds and hopefully a few bargains  in the NYC area. We're planning a pre cruise visit.
Happy Goofy I believe we share a birthday :cheer2: What better way to celebrate our big day then with Mickey and the Gang! :cool1:

DH and I are also booked on this cruise. :yay: Going to get a car service to drop us off and pick us up so I don't have to deal with keeping our car in NY. It's going to be nice to leave from a port close to home. :goodvibes
