I'm sorry to hear that DS is sick. Hope he gets better soon. We were only in the Mickey pool once, now I'm grateful it was only once.

Well, am I glad I posted this! Yes, she was in the Mickey pool, and DH mentioned that it was closed for what looked like cleaning towards the end of the trip. Hmmm.... Hers started Tues, stayed home from school wed. today she went but had to get picked up from school. She's picking at her food and is barely drinking. Went to the doc, and they said thankfully dehydration isnt an issue because she um, "lost fluids" only once. Apparently her symptoms are consistent with strep, but her test was neg. We are praying the tummy ache goes away for school tomorrow, albeit for selfish reasons. We both work for the FDNY, and DH is on a specially detailed unit for the memorial services at the WTC site and I have school then work myself. It's like an unspoken rule that you cannot call in sick on 9/11, for obvious reasons.
I'm also intrigued that other people were not as satisifed with this cruise as they were in the past. This was my 5th, DD's 4th, and DH's 3rd cruise. Last time, western in 11/07, I remember smooooooth sailing, awesome fresh food, very attentive service, reasonable prices for excursions, etc. I was told that Easterns are always rougher sailing than westerns... and we apparently didn't have it that bad. But, I agree with the fruit selections not being ripe or too ripe (did anyone get a banana that wasn't brown?) Our service at dinner was impeccible, (one night they even replaced our chicken dishes that we didn't care for with filet mignon) however, the lunch service was poor. (we dined in luminere's and parrot cay a total of 4 times). I don't know how they work the gratuities- I know they take your stateroom # when you are first shown to your seat- do your evening staff perhaps share a cut with the lunch people? Are the lunch people simply stiffed? The service during lunch really made me feel like we were bothering them by asking for a coke refill, etc. And we are not, i repeat, NOT fussy, picky diners by any stretch of the imagination. What definitely improved, I think, were the poolside waiters. They kept us veeeerrrry happy!
The computerized bingo games seemed more like a lottery ticket than fun. The martini and beer tastings didn't offer the half price specials after the tastings. And I am super grateful of everyone giving out the glow-in-the dark stuff for the pirate party because otherwise, we'd be broke! We skipped most of the shows because they seemed redundant. The lights on the sports deck were flickering to the point we were wondering if we were playing soccer or at a disco. In fact, largely everything seemed scripted and exactly as it had been on the last few cruises.
Yes, Disney is a brand that we all love and are willing to pay for. However, in this fledging economy, they really need to pick it up a little, otherwise, a lot of people won't be sailing til the new ships come out.
hope everyone feels better!
