August 28, 2014- 3-Night Dream

Hi everybody,

I had booked this cruise back in July but I can now say that we are oficially going. By the time we take this cruise it will be our 5th DCL, 3rd on the Dream.

It will be me, DH, DS(5 at time of cruise) and my parents. I'm excited that my parents can come. It took a while to convince them and it will be their first cruise ever.

Not sure if I will participate on the FE if we get one going. We are going on the Dream the day after Christmas next month and that will be the first time I will participate on the FE. Let see how it goes with that one, I'm having fun putting everything together.

Just added this cruise as part of a B2B- we are doing the 4 day Member's Cruise 8/24-8/28 and decided to add this>>>looking forward to it! :cool1:

Oh my goodness! I hadn't logged in for a while, so I didn't know we had so many new shipmates. Hello, everyone! :wave2: Welcome aboard!

We have booked our first Disney Cruise (or first cruise period!) and are solo excited!! I (38) will be attending with my DH (37), DS (will turn 10 and cruise is for him), DD (8) and DS (5) and leaving the little DS (1) at home :(. We passed on the 1 BR Concierge Suite for the Concierge Family Room and are in 12528. Our close friends are also cruising with us and staying in 12028. I would LOVE to participate in the FE and glad to read that others on our deck want to also!! Any info, tips, etc... are greatly appreciated! Look forward to meeting all of you!

Off topic, but here's some good DCL info: Disney just opened January-April 2015 cruise dates. I was shocked that there are several 3 night Bahamas cruise dates in January & February where the 1 bedroom concierge room is almost the same price as the family concierge room. I couldn't resist the deal on the 1 bedroom, so I booked the February 27, 2015 cruise! You don't see that kind of deal very often (it's usually $500 higher). I wonder if it's a mistake! The 2014 February prices are over $3,000, so it pays to book really early. :cool1:

Hi everyone! We just switched to this cruise due to a wedding announcement in the family that overlapped the 8/21 date...

We will be in 12524, so it looks like some of us will be neighbors! Traveling with me will be DH, my DD (16), his DS (14), and our little princess due in Feb! Prob won't participate in FE only because of all the extra stuff I anticipate we'll be lugging along.

Any tips or tricks anyone has for cruising with a 6 month old are most welcome. It's been many years since I've had a baby, and my DD was 5 on our first DCL cruise on the Wonder!

Welcome August 28, 2014 Dream cruisers! Please join in the conversation and add yourself to the roll call, along with any family members joining you and your kids' ages at the time of travel. Also, please let me know if you would like to participate in a Fish Extender gift exchange. Here are some links for people who are unfamiliar with this disboard tradition. We did it last time (my kids were 5 & 3 at the time), and other than the chocolates on the pillows at night, this was my littlest one's very favorite part of the cruise! http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=33184281&postcount=2 http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1219607 http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=30302583&postcount=609 Roll Call: Ashlotte (40), DH (38), DS (11), DD (9) - FE (fish extenders) Laura, DS (18), DD (12), DD (10) JLK2001 (43), DH (43), DD(10) CarolCPA, DD (10) Valentine, nephew (10) - FE Disney Susan, DH, DS James (15), DS Adam (12) - FE Ntrain, DH, DS (5) MickeyBeast Morrow0714, aka Michelle (38), DH (37), DS (10), DD (8), DS (5), (DS (1) staying ashore)- FE

We're joining in for this cruise! First time cruisers ever! I'm clueless on most everything related to cruising so will have a million questions!

It's me (Allie) dh, dd 13 and dd 10 (when we cruise) and we're coming to Orlando on aug 16 for 4 nights at universal then to POR until the 28th and cruise time

We'd love to join in on the fish extender exchange if someone can explain what we do??

WooHoo - I finally found "my group". We recently booked this cruise this is our first time with DCL - I have cruised before with other CL but this will be the first time for my husband & children. I'm not familiar at all with any of the fish extenders, role call or abbreviations as you may be able to tell a novice even when it comes to blogging forums so any info anyone can give me is GREATLY appreciated. We are so beyond excited for this trip as it is a surprise for our kids. I'm so happy I found this group and hope I can get some great info from everyone on here.

Welcome to the cruise! This forum will be great for all the info you ever wanted and more!

Welcome new neighbor! I feel like we're going to know everyone on deck 12 well before the cruise! I never cruised with a baby, but I think you need to reserve times for infant daycare on the ship. The cool thing about 1 bedroom concierge is that you can have your dinners delivered to your room if you want. That might be more convenient with a baby because the restaurants take forever to get through dinner. The long dinner is fine the first time you cruise, but on the second cruise, we wanted it to move a little quicker so we could do other things. If you can spare the extra $500, the cabanas on Castaway are AWESOME! If I had a 6 month old, I would totally do the cabana so the baby can sleep inside while you enjoy the VERY private beach area and you won't be far away if the baby starts crying. Otherwise, you're stuck in the crowded area of the beach with sand all over the place!

I posted a link to our Facebook group in an earlier post.

:santa:

Thanks! Yes, I am definitely interested in trying for a cabana... Not sure if baby girl will be a fair skinned redhead like momma yet, but want to be sure she is protected if possible. Love the idea of eating in the room too... Those 2+ hour dinners are a bit much for us now. We are all itching to go play on the ship by the time appetizers are served! A baby would be a great reason to skip the MDR all together :-).

Is it wrong that one of the first orders of business when baby arrives is getting her a passport?! Lol...

Wow! So many new people! Welcome Belleluvswdw, Mrs. M. Mouse, lilkooler, Lottie2004, and lingra01! Did I miss anyone?

For those of you asking about the Fish Extenders (FE) there are links on the first post that explain what it is and how to make one. It's basically like a Secret Santa exchange. You hang the FE outside your door and if you sign up, you will be delivering goodies once during the cruise to the other FE people, but reaping in the goodies the rest of the time. We did it on our last cruise when the kids were 3 & 5 and they LOVED it! Now, five years later, it is one of the things that stands out most and is most memorable for them from the cruise.

Whatever you choose to deliver is totally up to you. Some people do candies, stickers or small toys (dollar store- nothing fancy) for kids, something special from where you are from (we got a little beaver keychain with a maple leaf on it from Canadian FE people last time), something useful that people might have forgotten (toiletries, postcards, etc), or crafty people sometimes make things (picture frames, etc). It can be as elaborate or low key as you desire (mine will be low key, I assure you, so don't feel pressure to go too crazy... unless you want to, of course!). You might want to read some of the links I posted to see what other people have done to get ideas. It's lots of fun to come back to your room and find surprises!

Oh thank you so much for the welcome as well as the FE explanation! I've got a ton of reading to do now before our trip this year lol, what with the magic bands etc lol.
