August 28, 2010 Pirates of the Barbary Coast - 11 nights in the Mediterranean

I'd love to see the logo - any idea what post no it was? ( save me going through whole thread!) would Karen mind us using it do u think if she is not coming? I'm thinking door magnets here! Did we come to a decision on fe? I personally would love to do it with my boys and know there is another family who does if anyone wants to join us ? Happy to keep it small and light :-)

The eurostars grand Marina is right at the port area so it could be walked in about 20 minutes. The Disney magic was the furthest away ship in the port in May but it would only be a few dollars in a taxi. I believe a bus runs from the hotel also.

Thanks for the information. :thumbsup2
Well done with the cabin allocation.

I have been on the phone all evening to the U.S.A but no luck for us. :sad2: At least the weather should be better than we have had over the last couple of days. How was the severe weather warning for you. We had friends travelling Stranraer to Ireland on Friday but it was cancelled and they had to fly from home (near Blackpool) instead.

Ahh not long to wait to 28th Aug. :cutie: :hippie: :yay: :cheer2:

Yeah we can't wait. We're looking forward to doing all the things we didn't do in May.

The weather here has been pretty awful the last few days so a trip to the Med will be a welcome change :cool1:

You'll have a great time on the cruise. It's absolutely fantastic.

The logo was on page 5 post #67. I haven't been a member here that long and I do not know the protocol for this situation. I don't want to step on any toes or hurt any feelings. I also don't know that much about fe, but I don't think we would get involved, as my girls are teens. Also we are overwhlemed with the packing.

We are looking forward to cruise. This will be our third cruise with Disney. We spent Christmas day on the Magic on 12 day Carribean in 2006. Had a month with disney in 2008 when we stayed a Grand Californian then went on The Magic again on Panama Canal crossing and stayed in Grand Flo before going home and obviously all the times in between in Orlando.

Can't wait to get into Palo's and the Cove after dinner for that obligatory post dinner drink.

Looking forward to doing Europe. We never seem to stay closer to home.
Counting the days to the awful thought of packing, but looking forward to the holiday more. :cheer2:

I'm sure Karen would not mind. But you can always send her a quick pm to verify. She is a real sweetheart!

This may be the last DCL for us. It appears that we made a mistake by booking specific cabin allocation. We wanted Cat 3 but that was all booked up so we were talked into a cat 4. Now I'm worried about the space as there are 3 adults and two children DS 13 and DD 10.

I have just got off the phone to DCL direct and got no assistance with my dilema apart from being told that I could cancel if I wished and at a charge. I even enquired about a lower category but two cabins and was told the same. It seems to me that you are far better off booking the GTY status and keep your fingers crossed.

I know that you are not in the cabin long but it is the bathroom situation when we want to get ready that concerns me the most.

Ah well. We live and learn. Well done to those of you that were lucky with the old PIXIE DUST. Enjoy your vacation. :sad2:  :confused3

The last time I looked on line there was a cat. 3 still open. They must have had cancelations before the 90 day mark. Maybe you could try booking that. For sure, cost wise 2 connecting cat. 8's would give you the space and two bathrooms at a better deal. I know that they will let you upgrade. We already called about upgrading. But it was about $3,000 more from a cat. 4 to a cat. 3 for two people. I am surprised that they will not let you switch to two cat. 8's. Although, there may not be many rooms available that are connecting anymore. Maybe you could try calling again and speak with another person.

Hi Eva, I just tried to send a PM to Karen, but the site will not allow it until I have 10 posts. So I will have to wait until I have reached that and send it again. Thanks for your advice, Karyn

We cancelled a Cat 3 and there appears to be one still on the DCL website so I'd call them again... Good luck!! :thumbsup2

I had some free time today, so I skimmed through this whole thread. Wow Eva, it looked like you were going to have the ship to yourself for quite a while! It is too bad Karen will not be joining us, I love the logo she created for the cruise many pages back.
Thank you very much - I'd forgotten I did that...

Of course I don't mind!!! Go for it!!! :goodvibes

If you like I could dig out the full size version and post a copy here - let me know...

Hi Karen, I just tried to write you a PM, but I am new here and did not know I can't send one until I have 10 posts. Anyway, I think the logo is perfect for this cruise and I thank you for allowing us to use it. I am sorry you will not be joining us. Karyn

Sorry that you had to cancel custard tart but thanks for the information. I will certainly try again. I have heard though that the more you try to upgrade the more it goes against you getting one. Plus we got the U.K. resident discount so we wondered if maybe that is why they're not playing.

Hi, I have always found upgrading with DCL a breeze. We were even able to upgrade from a Cat 7 to a Cat 1 on one trip!! I tend to go thro' my TA but if you ring DCL I don't know why they wouldn't accommodate you if it were possible - you'd be spending more $$$ after all...

As far as the UK Resident discount goes, Cat 3 and above are not eligible so you would end up paying the difference between the discounted Cat 4 price and the Cat 3 list price...

I got my docs via the USPS today! Luggage tags and all....I have to say I am very, VERY surprised! But pleasantly surpised!

Anyone else get their cruise docs?

We are more than happy to pay all of the extra as we have always travelled at least at concierge level but "the computer says no". We have always booked direct with Disney, never through a TA as we have always been told by Thomas Cook (This is who we use several times a year for other holidays) that we cannot book concierge. That was the information given in 1998 on our first disney cruise. Perhaps next time I will check with them first to see if this has now changed and we can book a Cat 2 through the TA.

That's such a shame. I book with Dreams Unlimited (who are one of the board sponsors) and always come thro' for me - plus I like a little onboard credit.

I really wish I had known of your predicament before I cancelled - maybe my TA could have helped you get the Cat 3 I put back into the system..?

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the cruise and the stateroom arrangement works out OK - just sorry not to be onboard... :goodvibes

Thank you for the thought. I note that you also live in the U.K. We have never thought about booking through an American TA. Do they book the flights and everything as a package, or are you able to book flights yourself?:surfweb:

You can book the flights yourself. Karen did this for her and Richard.

Hope you were able to at least get a credit for the flights Karen!

Now I can't wait to get home to see if we got our too!

Like Eva says, I always book flights independently - we have wasted SO much money booking packages over the years but since 2006 that's all changed for us. That year we booked a 2 week trip with Virgin Hols to WDW for 8 of us and it cost a FORTUNE!!!

Honestly, it's much cheaper and easier to book flights/accommodation separately - I guess it's just not how we expect to do it in the UK... ;)
