August 28, 2010 Pirates of the Barbary Coast - 11 nights in the Mediterranean

When we booked we paid in full with our Disney visa, don't know if that made any difference but we were assigned cabin #6080 on the phone right away

We got upgraded from a Cat12 GTY to a Cat 6 !!! :cool1:

I can't believe it !!!

I'm so happy !

I am wondering what is ( if any) the creterium used by Disney to award the lovely upgrades. Can some of you who have already received the cabin assignment, tell me please when did you do the booking, and if you have many tours booked through Disney.
We are trying to figure out our odds on getting an upgrade as well :cool1::confused3

On our May cruise we tried something similar with the Disboards members who got upgrades. The conclusion was there is no rhyme or reason to the upgrades.

Personally I booked this cruise about 2 weeks ago through the Disney Cruise Line website. We haven't booked any excursions and we're Castaway club silver members.

Last time we got upgraded from a Cat12 to Cat11 on Deck 5. This time Cat12 to Cat6 on Deck 5.

It also seems to have no adverse affect booking via travel agent, I guess it's just pot luck.

I ompleted my online check in and today received a stateroom number so maybe it does make a difference.I have been upgraded from aa CAt 12 to a CAT 9 so not as good as others but still great. How do i find out if i have a window?

I also got our upgrade to Cat 9 with window, we quite happy
You can check on the web site on Disney Magic it opens the deck plans. When you introduce the cabin number it shows you where it is

We booked 2 category 12 gty's and were assigned 2 category 6's with verandas on deck 6 today!! Now I am even more excited about this cruise, which I did not think was possible!

We went on a western Caribbean cruise on the Magic last summer and we were upgraded from a category 12 to a category 9 with an ocean view. I thought maybe it was because it was our first cruise and they were trying to get us "hooked" on DCL. So I wasn't expecting much for this cruise. I am so happy today!

Well this is our first cruise and I got from 12 to 9. Maybe the next one we will get the Varanda :goodvibes:goodvibes
My reservation still says cat 12, but the cabin number matches a cat 9. Is that normal that the reservation still indicates the original category?
Disney seams to be making a lot of people happy on this cruise:banana:. Great great great

Akluss,

As mentioned it's our first time on the magic, are the cat9 with sea view quite good size cabins?

Jpinto, it was four of us, myself and my husband and our 2 daughters, at the time 13 and 16, and we were very comfortable with the size of the room. We also had more than enough storage for all of us and the split bathroom was great.

We were on Norwegian Cruiselines three years ago and this room seemed so much bigger than even the veranda rooms on that ship.

Wow! Our first free upgrade! I just looked on line and we were upgraded from a cat. 6 to a cat. 4. The best part is that it is still on the side of the ship that we wanted and closer forward than the room we had. Since we use a lot of the adult areas, this part of the ship is our preference. The extra space will be nice on such a long cruise.

We also got a phone call today and have been up graded to cat4 from cat 6. now in #8062-Thank you Mickey

I can't believe that we leave in just 6 weeks!

Sorry to those who inquired about sharing the Pompeii/Amalfi private tour with us. We decided to save some money and use our Disney Visa rewards to take the same tour through DCL.

Sorry if this question has already been asked but we are looking for hotel accommodation for two nights prior to getting on the Magic. If anyone has done the med before please can you help. We are looking for a hotel possibly near La Ramblas. The travel party includes 3 adults, DD 10 and DS 13.

Any help would be gratefully accepted.

Thankyou :thumbsup2

The best hotel In terms of location to the cruise terminal and Las Ramblas would be the Eurostars Grand Marina. It's located right at the cruise terminal.

Thanks. Is that the exact terminal for DCL or just general area. Sorry to be so picky but on Panama Canal cruise we left from LA and the port terminal was huge.

Thanks Andrea :cutie:

This may be the last DCL for us. It appears that we made a mistake by booking specific cabin allocation. We wanted Cat 3 but that was all booked up so we were talked into a cat 4. Now I'm worried about the space as there are 3 adults and two children DS 13 and DD 10.

I have just got off the phone to DCL direct and got no assistance with my dilema apart from being told that I could cancel if I wished and at a charge. I even enquired about a lower category but two cabins and was told the same. It seems to me that you are far better off booking the GTY status and keep your fingers crossed.

I know that you are not in the cabin long but it is the bathroom situation when we want to get ready that concerns me the most.

Ah well. We live and learn. Well done to those of you that were lucky with the old PIXIE DUST. Enjoy your vacation. :sad2:  :confused3

The eurostars grand Marina is right at the port area so it could be walked in about 20 minutes. The Disney magic was the furthest away ship in the port in May but it would only be a few dollars in a taxi. I believe a bus runs from the hotel also.

I had some free time today, so I skimmed through this whole thread. Wow Eva, it looked like you were going to have the ship to yourself for quite a while! It is too bad Karen will not be joining us, I love the logo she created for the cruise many pages back.

6 weeks to go!! I guess it's time to seriously start thinking about packing.
