August 28, 2004 "LOST AT SEA" Cruise

My kids felt the same way...It seemed they were with us more than when they were in the clubs..

Which we like better anyway....I work too darn much, and really enjoyed my kids company...

Well ok.,...after the 9th day they could have gone back to the clubs...:hyper:

I will email you the pics ASAP..been busy..

As I said, my daughter is 17 and ended up going to the adult clubs at night with us (she'll be 18 in a couple of months anyway). She really had a good time. She watched her dad and I dance and enjoyed the comics. She's already said that next year for the two-week cruise she's just looking forward to hanging with us. She did enjoy sitting in the porthole windows during the day near Rockin D Bar and drawing. That was her favorite thing this cruise. She's actually kind of glad she's outgrown the teen club. She always has high expectations that it will be better each time, but then is always disappointed by the lack of supervision and activities. In fact, they were supposed to have several art activities this time, then cancelled them!

I am trying to get everyone I talk to to write letters to DCL about the out of control kids. I don't care that it is a Disney cruise and kids are expected, there is NO excuse for the lack of security to keep the kids from doing some of the harmful things they did. We even had magnets stolen off our door. Someone said they saw kids on deck 9 throwing clothes overboard and we saw kids throwing trash into the ocean!

Also, our tablemates said they ran into teens smoking INSIDE the ship (hallway outside theater for one) several times. I guess all you can do is call security if things get really bad.

My husband said one night he saw two young kids running down the stairs and stopping on every single floor to push the up and down buttons on the elevators. No wonder we could never get an elevator. I don't think that DCL should allow 14 and under to sign themselves out unless they have the parents sign something saying they will be directly responsible for their behavior. I would have gladly signed something like that for our past cruises if it would have curtailed some of this other behavior.

Ok where do I begin, you know me and my mouth!! Ok on the BUS! we had to stop at PORT LUCIE. A lady on our bus had to go the the bathroom as soon as she got on board.. so the driver tried to get her to a rest stop soon.Well you know me being so quite and meek.. We got to PORT LUCIE and it was a zoo there. I guess the driver was told to stop by some "RENT A COP " type guy and didnt stop fast enough. Well this "GUY" got on our bus and yelled at the driver for not knowing what his "HAND GESTURE "meant. He said "hey buddy don't you know what this means, you have your commercial liscense. you should know it means stop!". Our driver was so apologtic and was sorry,,, but this guy kept it up to him.. I of couse had to speak,, I said," Hello we are from the Disney MAGIC, have a wonderful day!" He got on our bus and said WHAT DID YOU SAY? I said have a magical day. He said listen lady , do you want me to get a state Trooper over here and go through every single piece of luggage on this bus.. At his point my husband had to stop me..lol Then this "GUY" gave me the gesture to ZIP my mouth.. UGGGHHH!!!! I was steamed!!! First of all, that area is so devastated,, this is how he treats the guests to this area, imagine how he treated people that lived there.. I was not quilty of carrying anything illeagel,, was he??
But anyway,.. we went on our way,, and I did feel bad for the other people on our bus and I APOLOGIZE if I got peopel scared..
I speak up for what I think was right, and this guy had no right to curse our driver.
MARY ROSE what would you have done,,lol

I just had to ask my daughter about anything she saw.Mary Anne I think our kids did meet in the STACK. She too detests smokers.. She told me a group of girls she first met,, ( and quickly ditched) smoked, and they were 14-15 yrs old. and from BOSTON area.( SORRY TERRY..lol). She made new friends fast. She did do the stack and every time I needed her,, I called the STACK and ask for them to send her to my room and within 3 min I think she was there. She mostly hug with a 2 other girls, just like her( is that a good thing). I saw them on deck in the sun,, and we did dinners and shows together as a family. I have an 11 yr old son that didnt really do the clubs that much. We had second seating and most of the planned evening activities were at 830. He hung with me and my sister most of the time. I never heard of the trash or cloths overboard,, and my daughter was in the room after the STACK closed. She met a few DISers kids,, Terry: she said your son Craig was riot doing KAREOKE LYNN she met your son many times(and helped). She did STACK activites.. and did have fun. She is a good kid and no smoking or swearing from her either.

I liked DISNEY over Carnival,,, and will book again. We were on deck 6. No problems there that I knew of,, and many of us did go home with our magnets.

OMG Doreen, I just had to call Craig down here and ask him about the karaoke!!! In a million years I never would've thought he'd do that!! LOL

We were right across from you in the hall on deck 6, as you know, and no one touched our lime green Mickeys, but someone did take my SIL & BIL's Mickey :( At least they had taken the rest of their magnets and put them on the inside of their cabin door on the first day, like we did. We did not want to risk them being stolen, especially after all the work Bobby and his family put into them!

I would definitely do another Disney cruise. As you know, we're booked on Royal Caribbean's Voyager for next June, but I'd like the next cruise after that to be on the Magic again!

We were just watching all the video we took, close to 6 hours! It really felt like we were back on the ship. Just think, a week ago we were still on the ship, at dinner right now :)

Doreen - Are you kicking up some trouble again LOL! I loved Lyn's pictures of you with the smoothie maker at our meet. They're hysterical. Anyway, on our bus, I was the one who desparately had to go to the bathroom and asked to stop at a rest stop. I had to go, I mean I really had to go. I had to go when we were lined up in the hallway on deck 1 for an hour and a half. We were going to stop in either Pt. Lucie or Ft. Pierce but they were both sooooo overcrowded! So I can imagine tempers were flaring. Anyway, by the time we reached these rest stops I had to go for more than 3 hours and I was getting desparate. When we approached the rest stops and everyone saw the lines they yelled for the driver to keep going. Do you know what I would have said to the Rent-A-Cop, I would have said pssssss which would have been the sound of me going on his foot!!! LOL! Sounds like he considered himself "very important"

BTW - It turns out our bus had a restroom in the back all along duh, I think that 50 lbs of booze I drank killed more than a couple of brain cells.

How are your cold sores and how are your feet without your sandals?

Bobby & Terry - I'm really enjoying your trip reports!!

I agree with Mary Rose... I am also enjoying both Terry and Bobby's trip reports

I NEED YOUR HELP....

Is there any chance that someone might know who this family was. There was a young man onboard with his mother. They never left each other's side. They were tall, both blonde and went everywhere together. He kind of looked like a young Leonardo DiCaprio. We think they may have had a stateroom on Deck 6. We found them very interesting. We tried to say hi a couple of times, but they wouldn't look anyone in the eye or speak to anyone. But he seemed extremely protective of his mother. Just wondering if anyone might know them. My daughter really wanted to strike up a conversation with him, but could never really get him alone.

Terry,, wasn't he too funny?? She had so much fun with all the kids, (well not the smokers). Oh and Terry and LYNN,, what color OPIS were you looking for? I have Cha-Ching Cherry and All Roses Lead to Rome at my desk right now. I have to say TERRY AND BOBBY: fanastic pix and journals on line. I wish I were more talented that I could do that..
Bobby,, yours did only go to day 4 right?
JILL: OMG the pics of me a the pool,, CAN I SAY WEIGHT WATCHERS SOON,,lol how awful I look..lol...

Well, as far as bad behavior goes, I can't say much because my kids, 10, 12 and 13, had run of the ship. We kept a note book log of where everyone was and they were in and out of the kids club. We did see our youngest a lot around the ship and several people told me they saw our oldest and he was behaving. If they were misbehaving, I hope a crewmember said something to them. I trust them a lot and know they are good kids, so any misbehavior on their part was due to excitement.

My 13 year old said he did know kids who went to Diversions to smoke. The last night I did see a bunch of teens running around the lobby and was mortified to see that my oldest was one of them! It was midnight and I had come looking for him, since we had to be up early the next morning. There were so many other kids out and about.

I was sort of disappointed that our kids didn't want to do much together as a family. My husband was happy to let them do their own thing. One rule was that we had dinner together but they would finish early and run off. I'm glad they made friends and had a great time on their own though. Besides Grand Cayman, my two younger ones didn't get off at any port - they were on the ship for a week without getting off.

There are going to be misbehaving kids EVERYWHERE. I'm sure that kids push the elevators buttons on every cruise ship out there. I will tell kids to 'cut it out' if I don't like their behavior.

There was a bathroom on the bus!!!... You are a riot!
Invaderzim: I know who you are talking about ,, but I have no clue who they were.. They were a bit odd to be so close and not that close in age...
Mary Rose, your son was fine when he was MIA from you,, he was so polite at all times.. I loved his spoon thing too.. Daniel is trying to do it ,, but can't:crazy:
Doreen

Invaderzim - I didn't see the couple you are speaking about but I wish I had. They sound really odd and I like really odd!

And to all my DIS friends - I think our kids were really great. They were friendly and polite kids and I know they didn't cause the trouble we're talking about here! How could such a great bunch have anything less than great children! I miss you guys!

YES! I think I know who are you talking about! They both had VERY blonde, thick hair, hers was rather long. He looked like a teenager, maybe older teen. I think they looked Swedish or something! I wonder if they spoke English. Often I saw them wearing clothes that looked not to be "American" in style. Nothing bad, just not the usual style of clothing we are used to seeing. I thought they looked interesting too!!

Oh I didn't see this couple, but how I wish I had. Sounds interesting, maybe they were famous.

Hey everyone, check your pictures, maybe they are in the background on someones pictures, then you can share with us.

Joanna

Ok, I miss all of you too! So right now I am going to skip finishing the ports pages and go right to work on the DIS PEOPLE page!! Woo hoo! I'll include every picture I have of all of us! It shouldn't take me too long! :)

Nope, that wasn't Doreen, it was Dori! Fortunately I was with another couple and they grabbed my camera and got a great shot of the guys on their knees around me.

Boy, it's amazing how many posts were added over the weekend. (Since I work on computers all day, I rarely get online at home.)

Dori....
All I caught was part of your name - plus I was laughing (and perhaps a drink might have been involved). You (and your Top Gun guys) did a wonderful job!!!

Maybe it is the head cold, maybe I'm tired, maybe I'm rushing to do this while I'm at work...HELP! I can't locate the trip reports that Bobby and Terry are posting. Someone point me in the right direction. I can't wait to read them.
