Just a side note -- off the hurricane topic....

Did anyone beside my family have trouble with rampant uncontrolled and unsupervised kids this time? More than usual. Now this is BEFORE we had the extra three days -- but we kept running into 8, 9 and 10 year olds at all hours of the night running up and down hallways, pushing all the elevator buttons, screaming, etc. Did their parents figure hey, it's Disney, they're safe -- I'm on vacation, let them go? That way everyone else can become their virtual babysitters?

This was our third cruise but we've never had so much trouble with ill-mannered, rude, pushy and wild kids. Several times we ran into groups of teenagers blocking halls, stairways and doorways and when we said excuse me, they looked at us like we could drop dead (strength in numbers). It was disgraceful. I know several families called security a few times because of the noise factor and the group mentality.

The worst was the under 14-year-olds running around Beat Street after 9 p.m. It was ridiculous! And a CM's response -- "Well, we can't have someone there to keep them out". Why Not? I'm sure they could spare one CM to stand at the entrance of Beat Street after 9 p.m. and keep kids out.

They were all over the ship this time and I've never seen it that bad. They were in the hot tub and ran into the adult pool area continuously! Of course, always screaming. And, of course, they are going to kill the free soda for everyone. They were up there at 11 p.m. most nights just filling cups and throwing them and ice all over the deck. It was unbelievable. Again, where were their parents????

We couldn't even enjoy the movie theater this time because there was no control. Would it be too much to station a CM at the back of theater? There were actually kids running up on the stage and performing in front of the screen when we went to see Pirates. Several families got up and left!

We all paid the same money -- some of us more than others. But I certainly wouldn't think of letting my kids run loose on the ship at all hours of the night and impede on other people's vacations.

I feel that Disney really needs to curtail this and have some sort of curfew or rules for the parents. If the parents aren't told from the beginning that they will be responsible for their childrens' behavior, then they are never going to give a darn.

Just my two cents. Had to vent....

Bobby - Our smoothie meet was on Friday. I know definitely because it was the day of the Surial Bath ;)

Doreen:

Two things -- did you hear anything about your sandals yet?
Also, we thought it was really nice of your daughter to get off the bus and help that gentleman open that bottle! Watching him beat it on the guard rail was a bit scary.

oh, one other major thing -- didn't you think that agent OVERREACTED to your Disney Magic statement at the rest stop? Oh my gosh -- to actually threaten to detain us for 6 hours and search every piece of luggage? I know they were tired and stressed, but a bunch of us thought he really went over the top!

We have video of the Wonder approaching and docking behind us! DH is downloading the video onto his computer and is going to make DVDs of it. He can probably also email just that part of our videos, too. We've been running around all day and just got back. I *still* have not finished unpacking, but at least the suitcases are all emptied and put back in the attic. Now I have to actually put all of the contents of them away. lol I do have my priorities though; I just put some of our professional pictures from the cruise into the frames we bought on the ship, and I put the autographed model of the ship and the bobble-head Steamboat Willie that I bought, on my desk :teeth: The laundry can wait till later ;)

Invaderzim: I guess it's amazing how people can be on the same ship and have totally different experiences. I guess it depends on where you are, at any given time. We hardly saw kids during the entire cruise. Or should I say, we hardly ever saw kids who were misbehaving. Ours are teens and so we spent a lot of our time at the adult pool, went to the 6:30pm shows, and 8:30pm dinner. We saw a couple of movies, but they were the late showings, around 11pm or so. We never had a problem with kids of any age. Thats a shame about those kids you encountered, it would've bothered me too, if I saw kids being disrepectful and throwing things overboard!

P.S. Doreen, during one of the sail away parties (it might've been the first one, when we were leaving Port Canaveral), you and your kids were next to us up on the 10th deck and we caught some video of the 3 of you dancing together to the Macarena, and you all were wearing lime green! :teeth:

Invaderzim, I had the same opinion regarding kids running wild. This was my 4th cruise and the worst as far as kids running wild goes. I have never experienced that on the other 3. That was my one negative comment I put on my comment card that I dropped off at Guest Services. We were actually sitting on Deck 4 one night and clothes were being thrown off Deck 9. We called guest services and they sent someone up there to check it out.
And one night I heard them all running back and forth on Deck 3. Over and Over! Again, I have never heard anything when I have slept and I get the same room each time. I also agree with the soda situation. Out of control! That nice amenity will not last very long. I think I would rather buy my soda card for $35-38. I sometimes just bypassed it because the lines were out of control, and kids stomping on the cups that had fell on the floor. Personally, if my kid dropped cups on the floor, she would be picking them up if I was there and putting them in the trash.

Other than those 2 issues, I had a great trip.

Hey Mary Rose! We just got an invitation to a party in NJ for the end of October. While we're in NJ, maybe DH and I, and you and your DH, could get together. The party is in Toms River, but we'll be staying at my dad's house, in Sayreville :)

BOBBY: Wow, thanks for all your work so far. The pictures are terrific. I must ask, what time did you get to the port to get that picture in front of the cruise entrance with no one in line?

SeaSpray: We also had 6:30 show, 8:30 dining and tried to do a couple of 10:15 movies. They were the bad experience. We did get one 11 p.m. movie in without too much trouble and a 10 a.m. movie in. As for the teens, my daughter is 17 and tried to experience the new teen club -- but said it was miserable. She said the kids, again, were out of control and the couple of times she went there to draw, a couple of 14-year-old girls kept trying to bump the table so she would mess up. She finally packed up her stuff and left and never went back. She was disappointed, but made use of our verandah instead.

I partly blame DCL because I think they can definitely have better supervision. Children under 14 should not be roaming the ship after 11 p.m. without supervision! But I blame the parents more for not teaching their children respect and taking the responsibility to know where they are and what they are up to. My daughter had a curfew (even at her age) and if something was going on that she wanted to go to after her allotted time, she just had to ask and let us know where it was and when it was over. We left notes at all times to each other in the cabin as to when we'd be back and where to meet up.

It got so bad by day 5 that my husband and I were having serious doubts about even going through with next year's August Repo Cruise because we assumed it was a summer thing. We always cruise in November -- this was our first summer cruise. So we figure maybe it's an end of the summer high energy behavior that we've never seen before.

DARWIN Just curious, what months were your other three cruises?

Hey Terry that sounds great!! We are leaving for WDW on 10/30 but are free up until then. What weekend in particular are you coming up? Can you believe we have to make that drive to FL again  Too soon to think about that!

Any NJ/NY DISers interested in meeting up with Terry & my family at the end of Oct? I'd be more than happy to offer my humble abode.
