August 26, 2013 - Mickey Mouse, Midnight Sun & Whales!

Donna, 12pm is ok as long as you are not looking to pay for an upgrade at the port.
You will walk right on the ship with probably no wait! 11:00am was the earliest anyway.

I was hoping to check for an upgrade. Right now a veranda is $1800 more.
Maybe half of that might be in our budget. Might. ;)

And as for your gold status check in, as long as you are checking in BEFORE the 90 day mark of silvers, you should be ok. So you have like 15 days of open booking as a gold before the silvers get a chance. It should still work out! I am trying to calculate based on your paid in full date.... So I think you have until Sept 8th? Is that right?

S3D,
Oh, I see... so we will be back BEFORE the window for Silver's opens. The ports for that cruise are Key West and CC, so I really just need the 11 boarding time.

We have a family Balcony deck 8, so the only upgrade would be to concierge, so I don't need an upgrade at the port... THANK GOSH, I wouldn't get one with a 12'oclock boarding!

Hi All,
This is such a great short film on the Klondike Gold rush. It gives such a great perspective, and some pics of the Golden Stairs on the Chilook Pass. It give a great understanding and perspective of the stampeders. My 11 year old loved it. He says he is really going to appreciate the trip on the White Pass Railroad now.

The narrator is Pierre Berton, who was a literary Giant in Canada (specializing on books about the Klondike Gold Rush). He grew up in Dawson City, and his father was a stampeder. He was born in 1920 and died in 2004 (his parents were in their 40's when they had him- old for those days). The movie was made in 1957. Enjoy....

I just added my info to the FE spreadsheet and the facebook group for the August Alaska group. Can you give me more info? How many families I'm doing, which ones, etc? Thanks, this is my first time doing Fe.

Hi Kelli! Welcome!

We exchange with everyone who signs up to be part of the FE group right now. This would mean that you are giving gifts to each cabin. Whether that be a "cabin" gift, or individual gifts, that is up to you. Gifts don't need to be elaborate or expensive, just fun trinkets, etc. You can get lots of ideas for things from pinterest: http://pinterest.com/search/pins/?q=fish extender

There are also facebook groups that detail fish extender gifts in detail, lmk and I'll link you! :)

Hi,
I'm definitely interested in these groups. I love homemade stuff, so I have some ideas going already. Bought some supplies last night. How many cabins are doing it so far? Not all the ones on the spreadsheet right, just the ones who said yes. Will we be getting other info from people like fav characters, etc.?
Thanks,
Kelly

It looks like there are a lot of disboard threads about homemade FE things and other FE threads about things people liked the most, etc. It looks like a lot of fun. I'm going to go buy my holder thing.

Sad about the pirate party. I had just bought a new outfit for my dd8. Fortunately I hadn't bought the new shirt for me yet. The money saved from that will pay for my FE holder.

Just returned from the 5/27 AK cruise- you are really in for a WONDERful trip! We loved each day!
I have 50 extra FE cards if anyone is interested, please email me:
roomscapes@earthlink.net.
They could be turned into magnets or used in scrap booking- super cute design for AK! (posting on several spots- so request quickly)

Update: Cards are all spoken for now. Happy cruising!

If you'd like to know that information you can certainly ask and we can add it to the spreadsheet ;)

How about getting folks to indicate gender for the kids in case people have different gift ideas for boys and girls. Does that normally happen. I just added "DD" to my daughter's name on the spreadsheet because Niamh is not a common name here in the US . . .

Hi Kelly,
It's just the staterooms that are participating that would recieve gifts....so the YES!
There are many cruisers that put in a lot of time and effort into their very creative gifts. Others choose simple gifts. Like dollar store items. I have even seen pens from their hometown. Its whatever you want. You do not need to leave your name on your gifts.
I do not have room in my suitcase for gifts so we don't usually participate. One year little trinkets from Japan were left on the floor by our stateroom door ( as we did not participate or have a fish extender) I could not figure out how they would have known what stateroom i was in.......but then I remembered one girl from cruise meet had designed an amazing magnet ( Pirates of Tortola) so they must have recognized it , and had extra things and left them for us.
It was so thoughtful and really cool to receive things from another country. I think it is a fun thing to participate in.....but again , I have issues with overpacking!!! I have had to buy luggage on vacation to get everything home!

We love pirate night. Sad it won't be happening.
But it sounds like people are dressing up for Pixar Party ....
Sully and Mike, Toy Story...
My kids are older now and wont be dressing up so more room in the luggage !!!

Hi everyone! I could not pass up the sale price and just booked this cruise for my family of 3. We have an 8 year old son. I have a lot of planning to do. Hotels, excursions, flight back (nabbed a super cheap West Jet flight for arrival). Any and all tips would be appreciated.

:welcome:

We are booked on WestJet as well. I wouldn't say cheap though....we are traveling from Toronto. ( yikes!) It was the best deal we could find, so not complaining.
There is a lot of information on the first few pages of this thread about hotels and all things Vancouver, as well as info on excursions.
Any questions, ask away!
Happy planning!

Okay...I used miles and booked the return (12:50 p.m. flight...but I hate waiting at airports and am a frequent flier- the early flight will drive my DH nuts, but I won't tell him until the day before). Now, on to the 2 days before in Vancouver. We have been before and loved it but it was before the sky rail was in place. I prefer hotels near Robson St/Yale Town so I think I will try to focus there. Anyone else staying before the trip? I was looking at the L'Hermitage, St. Regis and the Four Seasons...

Hi everyone,
My kids asked to see Monsters University this weekend, and I thought about it possibly playing on the ship. And it is. They agreed to see another movie and save me $100 bucks (LOL - there are 5 of us, and snacks!!)

Movies playing....

Monster's University
Avengers
Brave 3D and 2D
Finding nemo 3D
Oz the great and Powerful
Wreck-It-Ralph
Lincoln
Iron Man 3
Lone Ranger (this does not come out until July 3)
