August 25 2012

We had a cruise this past August that got up pretty high, so we broke it into two FE groups. It made it much easier to do....especially since the new ships have more cabins (and more decks...and some crazy dead ends ;) ).

Ginny

Yes, crazy dead ends. I found that quite funny when we were on the Dream. I kind of liked the hallways that also looked like you were coming to a dead end, but then it just turned to the left or right then continued on the same direction you started in, for another whole lenght of hallway. I lost 3 pounds on that cruise instead of gaining :thumbsup2 We did, or at least I know I did, enjoy walking around delivering our FE gifts earlier this month. All went well. One of our group though had his FE holder stolen on the last night of the cruise, at the time everyone was packing up. There were no gifts in it, but someone had the nerve to take the FE which was personalized with names, so would be of no use. Very sad. But other than that, it was a great Cruise for them.
My son broke his arm yesterday while playing at the park (doing things that when mom is there brings me to say "Don't do THAT Tim, you're going to break an arm or your neck". I'm so thankful though this didn't happen earlier this month just before our Dream cruise.
I'm trying to come up with ideas for FE gifts, not sure what I want to give this time, but as I'm sure we're driving down now, I don't need to worry about size :)

Roll on Next August! Cant wait for next August!

Sailed on first dcl cruise in June and cant wait to see The Fantasy!!:yay:

We just booked this cruise. We did a 7-night Western on the Magic back in April and have been dying to go back.

On the trip will be me (John), my wife Heather and our daughter Megan who will be 7.

We did the fish extender last time and want to do it again. As it stands now, we'll be in room 6876.

:welcome: :welcome: to all the new cruisers!! :yay::yay::cheer2:

The board seems to be moving quite slowly right now, but I'm sure as time goes on and we get closer to our cruise date, it will speed up. :)

I'm getting ready to start paying this off, and that feels great. My DS8 got a new cast put on a while back, and he has a week and a half left to have that on, then his arm should be as good as new! Still trying to decide on what to make for FE gifts. Anyone else yet have that planned out?

I haven't planned FE gifts yet, but I've been thinking about it, just sort of walking around the craft stores seeing if inspiration strikes.

Just made some reservations and did my online booking for our upcoming 4 nighter on the Dream in January. I can't wait for that little precursor to this cruise. It will be fun seeing the Dream for the first time and experience a new ship. Can't wait to see all the differences between the Dream, Magic and the Wonder.

It's funny, you say this thread is slow but yet we are on page 28. We are 10 months :( away. My January cruise just started page 2 yesterday and we are 88 days away :) .

What does everyone think of the new water areas on the Fantasy...the added AquaLab, the new family wading pool (deck 12) and Satellite Falls (deck 13-adults only)? Looks like Disney listened and added some more pool options in addition to the kid's pool (Donald's pool), family pool (Mickey's pool) and adult pool (Quiet Cove pool) all on deck 11. The busy pool area, especially the family pool on the Magic/Wonder has always been a tough part of the cruise but I have heard on the Dream it's even more crowded.

I think Satellite Falls will be completely secluded. It probably will be very quiet up there. No bar, no walk-throughs by anyone (kids included) or entertainment. Probably just peace and tranquility with you, some others and the wind.

310 Days to go People!!!

Anybody going from the UK or Ireland??

Welcome John Heather and Megan, and also Crush Dude. John I will add you to the FE list and I will add both of you newcommers to the loooong list of Dis members on this cruise. Crush Dude do you want to join the Fish Extedner Exchange?
I cannot wait to see all the improvements on the Fantasy, although I would be just as happy with on of the old ships. We are a big group going and when we get together we just can't contain our excitement!!!

Unfortunately my family is going to say goodbye. We are sailing with extended family and they are unable to sail in August so we have moved our cruise to April 2013. I'm sad to not be sailing again with so many friends. Have a great trip and I can't wait to hear all about it Judy!

As this will be marking our entry into the Gold level of the Castaway Club, I figure we will try something new. We have never participated before in the FE program on the Magic /Wonder but we will for this cruise. You can add our clan to the FE/SHE, or whatever the Fantasy will have. We will be in stateroom 10534 and it will be Tim, Mary, James (10) and Moira (10)- yes, their twins.

Sheri, so sad to hear this, but on the other hand, I've been mulling it over myself to change our cruise dates. With my daughter expecting twins, and all the help financially they will need, I'm wondering if my $$$$$ is better put towards them right now. Too early yet to make a firm decision and I will have to talk this over with my DH and mom and her fiance. I hate to move it and hope we don't have to, but we do have to discuss it, and the next few months will also tell us how my DD's pregnancy goes as well. Can't believe I might be a Grandma in the spring, but I do look forward to it. :) If we do have to move it, at least I'll know a possible date to move it to :thumbsup2

Yes, you could do the April 20th. :goodvibes I told Cory that I don't know how to cruise without you. :rotfl:
All my best for healthy grandbabies, then you can help DD with all that :laundy: she'll have.

So sorry to hear this Sheri. Honestly, we are not sure yet if we can keep this cruise either. We booked it because the last week in August is the only week clear for the kids because of school and summer camp. However, it is also the hardest week for Mike to get off from work since the people who are senior to him snap it up every time the vacation picks are made in December. So, we won't know if we can do this one for sure until then. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. If we can't, DCL will be out for us for quite awhile....the 2013 prices are nuts ($1,000 more for the stateroom we have now on the same cruise in August 2012). So nuts, I might be considering RCI for us instead, especially since they sail a reasonable 9 night cruise out of New Jersey. No airfare for us, and I could get two cabins and two extra nights of cruising for about the same price.

Your daughter is having twins? Exciting stuff! I could see why that might influence your vacation decision...certainly does change the game quite a bit.

I looked at the same cruise in 2013 and couldn't believe how much more it was. Since our oldest will only be in 6th grade I'm going to pull her out for a week in April, it was the best compromise we could come up with. It will most likely be the last time she's pulled from school. As it is now in 5th grade she's scared to miss a day and I had to force her to stay home when she was ill.

I have to say not having airfare and adding a couple extra days to a cruise would be nice. I keep checking to see who sails out of Baltimore, thinking if we can loose the two travel days it might be worth it to try another line, even though DCL has our hearts.

I hope the vacation dates work out for you.

My daughter is also in 5th grade and she too starting freaking out about missing days which is why August seemed like the only option. So far, she is probably right...the amount of homework she has been getting this year is ridiculous!

I would prefer end of March or anytime in October myself.

I also have two (twins) 5th graders. I find it a little ridiculous how our kids are "scared" to miss a day from school. Some of us don't have teacher schedules and just don't get the time off in the summer. Not to bash them but it is quite unfair the pressures they put on kids today. I firmly believe education is super important but family always comes first, no matter what. I know the teacher's have a tough job and with the "No Child Left Behind" law it doesn't make it any easier.

It will be our family vacations that our kids remember and our quality time together. I will continue to take them out when and if I have to.
