...annichan, sure hope we get to meet up, especially since you are B2B on the same cruises as us. We are 39 and 43, and are usually belly-up-to-the-bar, though not party-type, people. Fine, I am 39 now. At this minute. But won't be on the cruise. I hate that. I always used to love that Mike was in the 40-49 age range when he swiped his card to get off the ship, and I was 30-39. Hmmphh. We do have reservations for the Hoop-De-Doo Review for my 40th, to lessen the blow ....

Yes, that step into the 40's is a doozy; I sure didn't take it well. HDDR is one of my must-do's at WDW, so I think that's a great way to spend your bday. Those ice cold pitchers of sangria will go down well after coming in from the August heat.

We are definetly using our PH pass but haven't decided on our park plans yet. DH even mentioned going to HDDR, but we have done it on every WDW trip, and I didn't want to use a 2hr block of time for dinner when we are only there for a day.

I'm starting to get excited; we're almost at the 6mos mark! I'll have to get to work and get the kids passports done. Does anyone have any great ideas on what to tell them as to why they are getting passports, when the trip is supposed to be a surprise?

I justify all my time on the internet (researching and booking)because the kids know i am always on the look out for a good deal to the USA and they hold out hope that i will find one so they can come back maybe you could tell the kids your getting your passports just incase you find a good deal for a holiday.

How are you planning on surprising your kids with the cruise?
Our kids will find out we are flying to the USA on the day we leave I hope but we are thinking we wont tell them about the cruise just that we are going to NY which is near the end of trip and then when we check out of the hotel catch a taxi to the ship.
I am still trying to work all that bit out

Looking at your kids ages, do you have to tell them at all why you are getting them? I guess what I'm saying is are they savvy enough to understand the purpose of a passport? Just tell them it's a fun thing to have/another form of id/you never know when you may want to visit Canada. Less said the better. As long as they have no other inkling, they probably would make no connection to the cruise.

Am I the only person who had no issue turning 40? It's not so bad! 40 is the new 30.

I didn't have a problem with 40, it was a pretty easy one for me, I had 2 one year olds at the time. What I'm having a bit of a problem with is 50...not as easy.

Unfortunately, yes, my kids are that savvy. We had gotten them passports before for a previous cruise, and I'm sure they'll remember. We have surprised them with a few trips to WDW, so they are very alert and watchful for any signs of an upcoming vacation. Every time I'm on the computer a lot, they think I'm planning a trip to WDW.

Maybe I'll tell them we're considering a possible trip to Niagara Falls this summer. They might take that bait. Thanks for the Canada tip.

Darn savvy kids! My kids are smart, but, shall we say, "situationally unaware." It's not hard to surprise them. The one time we surprised them with a trip to WDW, I was wondering how I was going to pack. The house isn't big enough to hide the suitcases, so I just did it out in the open. Not only did they not ask why I was packing , some how they concluded that we were just going to visit family in VA. Your kids, sounds like you are going to have to plant the Canada seed. So I heard on the radio yesterday that 60 is the new 40. So does that make 50 the new 30? So then what is 40? 25? Is 25 then pre-natal? And, then again, my 10 year old thinks she's 16. At what age are you then actually your age? This is too stressful .

For 50, I'm going to Hawaii. I'm so looking forward to the trip, more than 3 years away, I'm not so concerned about staring down 50.

Just got back from WDW...it was cold (50 degrees at night)...but man did the parks clear out...there was little to no wait for any ride we wanted. can't believe we only have 6 months left.....

I just figured out that if I want to book shorex, Palo, etc early, my final payment is 2 months from yesterday!

I think we are doing the Wild Africa Trek at AK for our WDW, Port Canaveral day. Although I've heard you have to get on the scale so they know how much you weigh for the rope bridge. May just have to hold my breath and get on the scale .....And maybe also not do Palo dinner the night before.

Yeuch, that would keep me from doing that excursion - especially after days of DCL dining!

No, but the excursion sounds really great, I've been eyeing that one too. I don't think we will do it though, due to the rather high price. Instead, we will probably just enjoy the MK and Epcot on our own, and then spend part of the money we saved on the excursion on lunch at Le Cellier (which will be another reason to hate getting on scales! ).

Did anyone ever go to the Hoop Dee Doo musical review?

We love HDDR and it's on our short list of must-do's at WDW. We have been there on every trip with our kids. DH mentioned doing this on our Port Canaveral day but I don't want to take that much time out of our day for dining. If we had never done it before then I might be more inclined to do it on that day.

It's yummy comfort food, fried chicken, ribs, mashed potatoes, baked beans, corn, salad, cornbread...and unlimited drinks, beer, and sangria. That and the cool A/C really hits the spot when coming in from the full day of Florida heat. We only had one trip there where the food wasn't really fresh and hot. And after many trips, we still laugh at the same silly, corny jokes.

Did anyone ever go to the Hoop Dee Doo musical review?

We went and saw it last year. It was fun, but not something we would do again. I'm sure it's funnier with kids than for adults sans kids, and I guess some of it went over our heads due to cultural differences and the language barrier ... But even though we didn't understand everything, we had nice comfort food, a friendly atmosphere and lotsa happy singing .

So DH had the concierge book us on the first bus out on Port Canaveral Day....OMG...when we went to WDW with the kids last, I couldn't get him up and out of the room before 10, now we're gonna be the first ones in the park

that's ok...I didn't see any of it...my DH did all of it...I guess me talking about it is heresay....

My DH has become very friendly with the concierge, so he talks to them just for the heck of it like once a week (or so it seems) Sometimes he knows to do things before they come out.
