August 25, 2012 Magic in NYC!!!!

Looks like the facebook page is up and running, i think there is a link on page 4.

So, I scheduled this cruise before I knew when the kids were going back to school. The last couple of years school has started before Labor Day b/c the districts rule of thumb is that school starts b/f if Labor Day falls on the 5th, 6th or 7th. As Labor Day is on the 3rd this year, I felt it was safe, but I wasn't going to breathe easy until I knew for sure. Well, the draft calendar came out today, and the good news is they go back after Labor Day (yeah!). The weird news is they don't start until Friday the 7th .

That is 4 weeks with no school and no day camp (which ends 8/10)! One week we will be on vacation, but that's 3 more weeks to cover. Guess I need to start buttering up Grams and Pops :thumbsup2! I'm going to have to get them something REALLY special when we are on the cruise.

We've started planning a little more seriously since New Year, Happy 2012 everyone!!!!!
So I just noticed our reservation includes ground transfers, does anyone know where these will be from? We are probably staying in NYC before the cruise so won't need airport transfers. So if we taxi from midtown any idea what a taxi will cost?
We're hoping to fly in on 20th Aug and have been searching the net for ideas on how to entertain the young ones! Hoping to catch a show. Maybe the zoo, central park. Lots of planning ideas going on. Must add weight watchers to the plan!!!:rotfl:

Also just been reading about kids club and open house times, sincerely hope they reduce the amount of time the clubs are "open house"!

Hi everyone! Did we lose anyone to the 2013 intineraries yesterday or today?

We booked the WBPC, but are keeping this cruise. Still so excited to be able to drive to the port. :goodvibes

We are still deciding what we want to do about our day at Disney. Anyone doing the private VIP tour?!

You certainly didn't lose us - cannot wait for this B2B to happen, and no 2013 itinerary could pry me away from that! :goodvibes

That said, we did want to book a cruise for 2013 that had something to do with Europe, but the Med cruises turned out to be far too expensive for us, and the EBTA has the problem that it starts in Texas - flying there one-way would cost us a whopping $ 1800.00 PER PERSON :scared1:

We weren't going to book Europe based on the cost. We usually travel concierge but it was way too high. Good friend convinced DH to travel in two lower level cabins for about 10K less so we booked it, knowing that it can be cancelled if we find something else. We kept this cruise as well...

I'm still here! The Med is too expensive for my tastes so I'll stick to my Fantasy cruise in 2013. I'll probably add on a week on the west coast (DL & San Diego) before that cruise.

I'm glad to see we don't have any abadoners so far, lol!

annichan, we'll still see you on the B2B as well. :goodvibes

We will likely stay on the ship in Nassau .. anyone esle?

We may go walk around a bit, kids have never been to Naussau, but other than that, there's really nothing much to see...we'll probably be on the ship most of the day as well.

It does make a great pool day!!

BTW, I love your ticker. :goodvibes

Just a couple more days, and it will be 200 days until we board! Yipee!

We are still absolutely in, we never intended to move it no matter what was coming up in 2013. Plus, now that the kids know, it has been a little more exciting since we are talking about it.

Actually, we have been discussing what to do in Nassau. Since the itinerary includes 4 days at sea/on the ship, we want to do something in Nassau. I was eyeing up the catamaran/snorkel trip. We did one in the Grand Caymans, and although then 7 year old Paige wouldn't get in, Mark and I had a great time (Jim seemed to also). The kids, however, are saying they really don't like snorkelling and don't want to do that. I started looking again...Atlantis too pricey, boat tour looks too boring, do we really want a beach day since we are going to be at Castaway Cay the next day? Anyway, still up for discussion, but Mark has STRONGLY expressed his preference for the snorkelling. Since Daddy is paying, I'm thinking he will win out in the end :thumbsup2.

Anyway, what's new with everyone? Who else is on weight watchers? Frankly, I'm so sick of counting points, I don't know how much longer I'm going to last!

No Weight Watchers here, though I could sure stand to use it. I don't know if I could handle keeping track of points. Everyone says to keep a food diary too, and I know I should. I am just not into that. That feels like work, and eating is fun. :goodvibes

I've been doing at least one meal replacement of Almased and kicking up my exercise while trying to drop a few. Problem with me is that dropping a few pounds has turned into needing to drop 20. OK, if I'm being honest, 30 would be healthier. hmmpph.

With this cruise payment coming due in the next few months, is anyone going to upgrade to the Signature Disney Visa (with the annual fee but 5x the Reward Points for Disney stuff the first 3 months)? Since we are doing this cruise and the Canada 5-night one after, I think we're going to do it.

We're going to upgrade to the premier card right before we have to pay for any of our cruises. It just makes sense.

As for dieting, last April (before we went on our August Alaska cruise) DH and I started the Tax Shape for Life Program. It's centered around medifast meals and you get a health coach. Well I was very skeptical but I have to say it works. This comes from a die hard weight watcher person. Before we left on the cruise in August my DH had lost 80 lbs and I had lost 50. Since that cruise I have had a hard time getting my mind set back on the diet, but I've lost another 10 and my DH is up to 117 lbs. I have to say we're walking bill boards for it. We hope to be at goal by the time we cruise again.

Weight Watchers here also! I'm down 16 lbs so far. The test will be next week on my Dream cruise :scared1:.

If you really want to go to Atlantis on nassau day you should consider making a reservation at Comfort Suites. It gives you full access to Atlantis including pools, waterslides, beach & aquarium. We did this last August and it cost us approximately $75 pp + taxi for a group of 4. It's pretty painless. You can check in & check out at the same time if you're not going to use the room at CS. Walk over to Atlantis (short walk up a driveway), get your wristbands and you're done. Atlantis provides towels at their towel huts. When you're ready to go back to the ship just head out front and jump in a taxi. HTH
