August 25, 2011

Just getting back to the thread after a long absence. This spring and summer have been hectic with me and DW running DD(14) and DD(8) to their respective sporting activities (Softball and Soccer). Now looking forward to a well deserved break on the Dream. This will be the 2nd leg of our B2B cruise, we initially sail on the 21st. We will be there for the meet at the Cafe and can always use an excuse to have an icecream without guilt. We will be driving down this saturday morning from northern VA and staying at the Radisson. Anyone else staying there?

Welcome meet!
August 25, Vista Cafe 3pm

Ice-cream social
August 26, Nassau day - Eye scream/Frozone Treats 4.30pm

These look good to me :cool1:...I have no promises for the second meet (Ice cream) though, that one I will play by ear.

Anyone trying REMY? I AM ...I gotta do it once:thumbsup2

We are doing Remy as well. DW made it a requirement for the 2nd leg of our B2B. We are also doing Atlantis via the Comfort Suites on the 1st leg. DD14 and DD8 are looking forward to the water park.

We are going to be doing the same B2B as you (me, DW, DS(16), DS(13) and DD(10)) and are flying in on Thursday. We will be at Country Inn and Suites for Friday and Saturday night prior to the cruise. We aren't doing Remy but we will be doing High Tea @ Palo on the first cruise and Dinner @ Palo on the second cruise. See you on board!

DW called DCL and got the movies being shown on the Aug 21 sailing (our 1st leg of the B2B.) I would guess that the same ones will be showing for this cruise as well.

Tron 3D
Gnomeo and Juliet
Cars 2 3D
Winnie the Pooh premiere
Fright Night 3D
The Help
I am No. 4
Pirates IV
African Cats
Mars Needs Moms 3D
Prom

Yes, I got these same titles when I called except I was told that Fright Night would premiere at 12:01 am on Aug 25th on our cruise. That's pretty fun. It doesn't look great but a premiere is always fun. Too bad it is rated R though.

Edited to add: just checked Fright Night's website and it opens this week on Aug 19 so the CM I spoke too was wrong about the premiere.

my kids are excited about the movies as there are quite a few of them that they haven't yet seen. now to try to make time to see them all...it's gonna be a busy week!!

Doing confort in on the first leg too see ya there :)

Bags are packed and I don't think we forgot anything. Spending 6 days at the Boardwalk Villas before our 1st cruise. I think I spent more time planning this vacation then we will actually be on the cruise for. Thanks to all for the cruise tips. See you on the 25th. Next time I check the boards will be from Orlando.:surfweb:

DD14 and DD9 are looking forward to the day at Atlantis and the water park. We have season passes to Busch Gardens Williamsburg but they do not include the 'sister' water park next door so they are excited to spend the day there.

We are getting very excited here in our house ......The FE gifts are packed.....but not all of our clothes....

We are wondering what your thoughts are with dinner attire....

This seems to be a very controversial subject for some odd reason....we have heard all sorts of opinions with regard to wearing nice shorts with a shirt to dinner. Do you think pants are mandatory for the kids? I would like to hear from someone who has been on the Disney Cruise before.

I am very aware of “Disney’s Recommended Dress Code”.....it seems that this is not at all enforced and many guests dress their children in “dress shorts”.

Look forward to meeting all of you soon! :cool1:

I've seen all 'those' threads too :rolleyes1; however, our 6 year old DS is wearing dressier shorts and golf shirts every night. He has no dressy pants from last year that fit, and I wasn't going to buy some that he won't wear again anytime soon.....DH on the other hand will be in pants ;)

I agree with a dress code to a point. I totally get "no cut-offs, swimwear, etc." but, I personally think that dress shorts are nicer than jeans (which they allow). My son will be wearing dress shorts and polos to dinner.
My husband is very jealous, though.:confused3:mad:

my boys used to wear dressier shorts with a nice polo all the time to the dinners when they were younger. now my oldest is 13 and he is taller than us...so he will be wearing pants now...much to his dismay. my younger ones will wear pants this time too, but i debated on some shorts. the only reason i picked the pants is cuz they coordinate better with our dinner outfits. lol!!

Thanks for the advice.....I am in agreement with you guys.....shorts or pants for young children should be fine.

Hope we can all get out safely without any delays.....the forecast is very uncertain at this time....let’s hope Irene either goes out east or far west......we can only hope! pirate:

Am I the only one worried regarding hurricane Irene? I come from far north where we've never seen a hurricane and now going straight into one (and on water mind you) worries me..

Ships do still sail during hurricanes right? I'm also flying in so this adds another worry..

i'm more worried about our flights than i am about the cruise. bumpy flights make me jittery!!! but it will be ok!! my kids are freaking out a bit about the cruise ...but disney will keep us very safe. it will be a bit bumpy i'm sure! pack your dramamine!!

Don't want to freak everyone out, but we are here now (AKV--Kidani) and the news is telling everyone to be prepared for a hurricane. They are already discussing the procedures for closing schools and opening shelters.

It looks like the storm is going to be worse here Thursday night into Friday morning, but of course they don't know for sure. I think we will probably get out of port okay, it would not surprise me that if everyone is onboard we actually depart a little early. Have a feeling we may go out east into the Atlantic more than normal before heading south.

Honestly, I'd rather be on the huge Dream than on land in Florida during a hurricane. The ship survives in water and is designed to handle rough seas. Can't really say the same for land!

Sigh..

If there's any cancellations, I'm sure Disney would call us right? We're leaving Wednesday night and staying overnight at the Ramada before heading out on Thursday to the port.. I'd hate to hear last minute after we've gotten there in case there are cancellations..
