August 22nd 2009 Western Carribbean Anyone?

Sounds like fun...I have an idea that might give you all a little taste of Philly ;) (Sadly, I don't think cheesesteaks will fit in our luggage, though...)

Shame...i have always wanted to try one...something about all that saturated fat in one meal has always appealled!!

Thanks!!

Good spa treatments to check out? !

I had a pedi on our last cruise. it was good, but not worth the $$$ to be fair. I had had just as good a one for $10 in Walmart the week before! What i would suggest is that you make it very plain on the spa pre-treatment paperwork that you dont want to buy any stuff from them. The staff must be on serious commission the amount of pressure they put on you to buy the creams etc. i was a little hungover the day i went, ( ok,...alot hungover!-a side effect of not drinking much very often followed by Pirate night!!) anyway, i was at a low ebb and got stung for $200 worth of face creams i didnt need and have never used. Never again!!! I friendly disser told me to put that i was not interested in a sales pitch on my form...and i just didnt listen!! I will this time!

Wayne,
I don't drink very often either. But, I love margaritas for Margaritaville.
You should have an opportunity to visit one. Our ship will be making stops at Maragritaville Key West, Grand Cayman, and Cozemel.
The one on Cayman has a water slide and pool.

I am still think about excursions. I need to start dling some research.
Erik would love to do some deep sea fishing, too.

sounding like...what was the expression...a Parrothead ,there Christie. !:dance3:

i am getting a bit bogged down by excursions....trying to resist the temptation just to lie on the beaches....Dave and the kids, as well as DB and DM have no strong opinions yet. DB went fishing at CC last year, not sure if he fancies it again. He cant think this far ahead! My Dm will pretty much follow me...as long as we get off the boat, she likes to actually say she ha sbeen to a place even if it is just for 4 hours! Atleast thats how it was in Nassau last year! The kids will probably do Wild Side on CC, DD14 did it last time and loved it, and DD12 is always keen to do stuff her sister has done!

partial to a bit o' shopping tho....

Matt and MArina would love to parasail. They just have to gain a little weight. matt weighs 66lbs and Marina was 68 last month. That means I would be making two trips because Erik is a little over the weight limit.
Both kids would love to go on a zip lining tour. But, you need to be 10 and MArina will only be 8. We have ziplined around home and thye both love it. I don't mind it-I just hate jumping off. I always forget that the harness is going to hold me. I keep thinking that I have to hold myself up with my own strenght.

I would love to just relax on the beach. Erik likes to schedule everything and do as much as possible. I like to relax and take it easy.

Welcome Heather, and anybody else I might have missed.
Heather - congratulations on the engagement! I hope it all goes well for you! This is also a first cruise for all four from my family. I've wanted to cruise for a very long time, and wanted to do Disney since they started, so I am really looking forward to August. Just ten months to go!

Christi - if you haven't been there, let me suggest just having drinks at Margaritaville Key West. I've been to Margaritavilles in Key West, New Orleans, and Las Vegas - the food at KW was downright disappointing. If it is still there, there's a crepe shop right next door, have a crepe followed by a margarita - if you don't fill up on key lime pie first!

Maria - I don't know if we will do a fish extender but, knowing my wife, I kind of doubt it. But DisTag sounds fun, and I would love to have a meet. But neither my wife nor I consume alcohol, so we would probably skip a group martini flight.

I forgot to mention, and should before I change my signature icons, we did make it to Orlando last August.

Friday I skipped work to clean the house (nobody has a happy vacation if wife isn't happy) and make sure everything was ready. DW came home from work a little early to shower and change while I loaded the luggage. Then, in the car and about to leave the driveway, I tempted fate.
DW tells me to wait - she forgot jackets.
I said we don't need jackets - all we'll see are showers, and who wants a jacket when it's 90 and humid?
DW gives in, we go to the airport.
A short drive, short flight to Seattle, and 90 minute layover then we're boarding for ORLANDO!

Saturday morning everybody shocked me. We're in Orlando! Disney! Let's hit the Magic Kingdom! Everybody but me instead wanted to SLEEP! While they slept I drove to Daytona and enjoyed the ocean a little.
Sunday we had other commitments so I had to wait until Monday to go to the parks.

Monday we spent a good, but very hot, day at the Animal Kingdom. An interesting park with a lot to learn and a few good rides, but no desire to return. That evening, after the park closed, we went to the store to buy some food and water, just in case the weather forecast held.

Tuesday morning we were introduced to Tropical Storm Fay, which had intensified overnight. Fortunately the parks were open, so we went to the Magic Kingdom. If you ever have the chance to visit a theme park during a tropical storm, do it. Most tourists were afraid of getting wet, so lines were almost nonexistent. All rides were open and we were able to get on everything we wanted.

Wednesday morning Fay hadn't moved off like cyclones normally do. We went to Epcot and, by late morning, I had finally joined the rest of my family in wearing ponchos. I doubt my wife will ever let me live down the jacket thing. Epcot is a great park during a storm - almost everything is indoors, so lightning will not close most of the attractions.

Thursday was the last full day of Fay, and we went to Hollywood Studios. The park was more crowded then the last several days, but we were still able to do everything we wanted. My DS, 6, really believed we had gone into space on the Star Wars ride!

Friday we went back to the Magic Kingdom for one more ride on all the classic rides. This day the storm was leaving and we started getting sun breaks. It was fun, and it was the first night we were at the park for a fireworks show - the other shows had been canceled for weather.

Saturday was the only day we used our park hopper passes, hitting the big roller coasters one last time before heading to the airport for a 6:30 flight home. We had lines, sun, and the full heat of August in Florida, so we only hit two coasters before leaving.

Lessons learned: One week of vacation is too short, tropical storms make the weather in August a lot more bearable, never talk DW out of raincoats, and don't spend the money on park hopper passes. We never went into more than one park per day, so the money was wasted.

Next year we will be back in Orlando for a week before our cruise. The plan will be Sea World, Universal Studios, Bush Gardens, one or two WDW days, then the Kennedy Space Center before the cruise. If I can pull it off, I also want to visit Ginnie Springs for some cave diving.

My DH and I just had our first trip to WDW without kids. I celebrated my 40th birthday while we were away. I have never been to WDW for my bday, so this was my first experience wearing a bday pin. It was so much fun. I have never had so many people wishing me a happy birthday. The CM's must be gearing up for the 2009 "What will you celebrate?" festivities. They really made my day special :goodvibes
My poor DH was expecting a nice relaxing trip without the kids. You would think that he would know by now that I do not relax. I told him that when we go for his bday, he can plan the trip the way he wants :rolleyes1
When we arrived home yesterday we were greated by snow. Hopefully we are not in for another winter like last year.

Happy Birthday, Jennifer. Your 40th was about four months after mine and, since you were at WDW, I'm sure yours was a lot more pleasant. I spent mine buying a car :sad1:.

My wife and I went to Disney Land for our honeymoon, and I am always looking forward to my next Disney trip.

Without my wife's knowledge, earlier today I booked us a cat 11 for the transatlantic eastbound in 2010. If she likes the cruise next August I can say, "How about just you and me..."

The tough part will be convincing her the kids will survive for two weeks without her. Last year it was a major breakthrough to get her away for three nights without the kids. And she isn't a new mother - our oldest is 14!
Wish me luck, and pass any tips you might have.

After 14+ years, I believe that you deserve a great vacation like the transatlantic. If you are able to find someone to watch the kids for two weeks, I am sure that your wife will be "on board" :rotfl2:

Hey everyone,

Sneaking in here for a quick break. Life has been very busy since I run the Girl Scout cookie sale for my area. The orders were all due last week and the delivery of the boxes is next week. Lots of people were late with their orders so a lot of hunting/tracking down people.

Just an awful time to be trying to sell anything right now. Sales were down. People are still buying, just not as many boxes as last year.

Back to this cruise.....(I know the time is going to fly by between now and then)........I don't want to come across as nit-picky....buuuuuut.

I thought DIS tag involves a large magnetic Mickey head that gets put on people's doors. The person who finds the Mickey head on their door signs their name on the Mickey head then then places the Mickey head on the door of someone else in our group who has not already received it.

Hence it becomes a game of tag. No gifts are exchanged. Just the Mickey head gets passed from door to door.

The Fish Extender gifts are something entirely different. Here we are buying gifts for each other as a gift exchange.

I'm definitely willing to do both.

Now that I finally have a Fish Extender, I would like to do both too. Also, sign me up for a group wine or martini tasting! If we need someone to coordinate these tastings, I would be up for the challenge.

:welcome:Mackie:welcome:

My wife & I are are the other childless Disers on this trip (OK - in fairness we are the kids:donald:) Although we will have been married for 3 years - this is actually our honeymoon too!

We really want to see some Mayan ruins in Cozumel

We plan on doing the Tulem(sp?) excursion. The Mayan ruins were one of the things that tipped the scales in favor of the Western itinerary for us.

Only experience we had was Oct 05 cruise which they called it Dis Tag. We all got a list of people taking part, organizer placed 3 magnets on 3 doors to start game off, the recievers then placed magnet on next on their list with a gift. The next magnet you recieved you then placed on door of next on your list with a gift eventually everyone on the list has been tagged by everyone else.
Thats the only cruise anything has been done, never heard of anything different, so will do whatever anyone organizes.:)

Hi Donald! We're obviously the "kids" on our trip, too...Disney Cruise honeymoon should definitely help us avoid the "big we're married grownups" thing for a little longer ;)

Colin and I were definitely looking closely at that excursion, too...sounds like our scale might be tipped, as well, if we have "friends" to look out for on the trip! From the looks of things, you'll be right down the hall from us, as well, on deck 2. Feel free to give us a knock and say hello.

And I know that we're both DEFINITELY up for meeting up with everyone at a wine tasting. MMMMMM, wine.

my understanding is also that Dis tag is a large magnetic mickey head that gets passed around and signed...no gifts.
and Dis gifting is gifts in the fish extenders.
we would be happy to make the magnetic mickey head....and also to take part in gifting. the stuff we got in our fish extenders last time ranged from postcards of ppls home towns, to cds of disney /cruise music. we are going to make cds if ppl are interested in taking part. we had alsotrs of other stuff...specially labled chocolate and m and m's.....stationary, pirate stuff, etc etc

well volunteered that Disser!
we are in for it all....lol

As to the food at Margaritaville, you are correct that it pales to the drinks. Then again with Margaritas on tap, who needs food!! We have been to the one in Orlando, Key West, St. Maarten so far. Waiting for the one in Detroit to open. :rolleyes1

Regarding On-Board Credit: Is that being passed around, or did you received it personally for status or issue? Missed the original post on that. Christi and I set a personal record for a cruise using only $25 total on-board cost. HAL was bummed with us.

Deep sea fishing would be a blast and I really like all the high-adventure stuff. I believe that all those companies "under-size" the equipment because they are cheap, and cater to the vocal minority of people in the under 2M tall crowd. You'd think that crew ran the world...:confused3 It is irritating. Of course, when you add on the weight of being that tall and liking to brew and drink beer, there you have it.

Hi everyone, just got back from another great trip. Mixed weather but still better than the cold rain when we got back to UK this afternoon.

Just done a bit of searching for Distag rules, most pages relate to similar to what I said eg this http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=18100601&postcount=2496
Anyone know of page with proper rules? is there any or does each cruise make up their own?
Always known Distag like this so confusing as 2 separate things:rotfl:

It took me a few minutes, but I think I get it. It seems like distag uses the fish extender (where possible), so I am happy. I like it! I say yay to distag. For anyone who would also like to add additional fun stuff to fish extenders, we can do that too. Thank you Wayne for clarifying.
I hope that you had a great trip. Did you visit WDW?
