August 22nd 2009 Western Carribbean Anyone?

Yup, the reception in the Walt suite is 2pm on the Monday sea day (Aug 24th). I just talked to Concierge about that and we're all set.

For Flick.......we're staying in the Walt suite and its a DIS tradition that whoever is staying in the Walt/Roy suite host a gathering in the room so the other DISers get a chance to enjoy it. The room is 8030.

There is a first day meet/greet of all us DISers in the promenade lounge at 2:30pm. That way we can put a face to all our screen names.

I believe the reason for the duct tape is to keep the stateroom closet doors from banging about at night and waking everyone up. Isn't that right? I don't bring it myself but I do find if you are staying in a verandah room to bring clothes pins if you are drying clothes out on the verandah and want to secure them to the furniture.

Regarding t-shirts.....some of us are making t-shirts so we can spot each other. We've nicknamed ourselves the "Red Hot Chili cruisers". I've been on cruises where one person arranged to make all the t-shirts but we never did that on this cruise.

In terms of the navigators......I downloaded western navigators from a June sailing. I got them off of a different web site and I believe I'm not allowed to post the link. You can pm me and I can send the link.

Now we just have to figure out how to get them out of the house at the same time. Both our kids went to three weeks of Scout and other summer camps. Do you think ONE WEEK overlapped, um... think not. This week though, both kids are gone since one is visiting friends out of town and the house is adults only, very nice.

That would have killed me if that happened. :headache:

HOTEL DISCOUNTS!!!

I just checked all of our hotels since they are continuing to discount based on the economy. I was able to knock 25% off our reservations for travel days and at the Radisson at the Port I was able to chop 50% based on last minute updates. It is worth it to take one last look depending on where you are staying. A couple months ago, the RATP did not have a room open for less than $200 a night, and now I booked at $101.

Wow - that's good to know. We're staying there, too.

Well, this is our first goodbye, guys - this time tomorrow we'll be at the airport, and officially on our way, so we'll see you all on the ship!

Fingers crossed I can drag the entire brood to the meet in the Promenade Lounge...

Safe journey, everyone.

See you onboard!!!! Yeah, I know what you mean about getting everyone to the DIS meet  I had one cruise where I was the only family member to go to the sailaway party. Talk about party poopers. They reluctantly showed up after the ship started moving.

Thanks for clearing that up KC!

Well, I'm back from the ER. DS came home from camp complaining that his ear hurt, and said that he had swimmers ear again. OK, still had some drops left, we put some in, figured I'd call the Dr. tomorrow. We went to the pool (b/c it is so darn hot here) and told him to stay in the shallow water, and not to put his head underwater. Mark goes to get in the pool with the kids, and I see him frantically trying to get Jim out of the pool. He is bleeding from his ear :scared1:! His friend says that it was bleeding when they were playing wallball (thanks for mentioning it, Gavin ).

Anyway, called the Dr., Dr. said go to the ER. ER Doc said he has an ear infection and his eardrum perforated. Jim's on an antibiotic, no pool tomorrow, AND he can fly next Friday. Whew!

Oh, and Paige came home with a black eye from camp (she got hit in the pool when she had her googles on). Seven weeks of camp, not a problem, first day of the last week, all heck breaks loose. Well, the black eye will go nicely with her dress for formal night .

Wow - when it rains, it pours. :scared1: You are getting all of your bad luck out of the way so it will be depleted by the time you get onboard.

Yeah, we've had experience with the perforated ear drum. Happened to DD a few years back after swimming in the ocean and close to when we cruised. Fortunately kids bounce back so quickly.

And yes, it was extremely hot today. We need to get acclimated to tropical weather. :cool2:

Thank you for the correction. I had Thursday in my calendar; if I find the time I will look back through the archives to figure out where I went wrong.

Denise - I am glad to hear the kids will be able to make it, even with recent injuries. I am sure your daughter will look find for formal night - bruises heal quickly in seven year old kids. After Jim's ear event today, I am sure you can relate to how I felt two weeks ago when I was told my daughter needed knee surgery!

On that subject, Kirstin was walking around today without crutches and she looked fine. The four (incredibly small) incisions are mostly healed, and she has been off the vicodan for several days.

Hopefully I can save the rest of the vicodan for personal use the next time my mother in law visits.

Hi everyone
Sorry I have been out of the loop but we have a lot going on around here. I only recently got to take a good look at the FE list and realized that my stateroom number is listed incorrectly.

For those of you participating in the exchange, our stateroom is #7508

We look forward to seeing everyone on Sat and Mon.:banana::banana:

Thanks for the correction.......is the Twilight reference in your avator related to the Twilight books? I've made a "New Moon" door sign for our stateroom door.

We took my mom on a DCL cruise a few years back and she stayed near your room. She said it was incredibly quiet and loved it thoroughly.

11 DAYS TO GO!!!!!

Yup, LOVE Twilight!!! Cant wait to see your sign :)
Good to hear about the room. Quiet is good!!

I know I am kind of late in the game but I'll be on this sailing too and look forward to meeting everyone. I'll be the Dad with the seven year old twin boys.

:cool1:

Welcome aboard! Better late than never. Are the boys identical or fraternal?

KC-
Erik and I don't think we will make it to your reception.
After reviewing the recent navigators, 2pm Monday is when they are having FAMILY MAGIC QUEST. We think that the kids will really enjoy it.
We will try and make it if quest is scheduled for a different time.

Thanks for inviting us,
Christi

Sounds very interesting - what is family magic quest?

As much as we'd like to join everyone in the Walt Suite we have the Rasul scheduled at that exact same time.;)

Count us in for the meet at the Promenade Lounge on sail away day. 2PM right?

Now that I know we have some Mets fans on board I'll have to make a Yankee magnet just to compete.

Speaking of baseball, does anyone know if we can see the Yankee games on board? The Yanks are playing Boston Saturday and Sunday and those coul dbe some VERY important games.

Have fun in the Rasul.....I believe the DIS meet on Satuday is at 2:30pm. Re watching baseball games onboard....it will depend on which satellite TV stations the ship can receive on a particular day. That will vary based on the location of the ship. If the games will be broadcast on ESPN then yes, you'll see them. Not sure about Fox.

On one of my earliest DCL cruises we were able to get Cartoon Network on the stateroom TV. We were sailing near Cozumel and picked up the Latin American version of Cartoon Network. The shows were in English but all the commercials were in Spanish. As much as we love Disney, it was nice to get some variety for a day or two. It was a riot.

(BlueMarlin ghost writing for St.Somewhere)

Brian,
First, you have to go to Magic Quest on Saturday Night after the onboard party to see the adult version, and then take the family on Tuesday to the all-ages version. When I say adult, it only refers to it being in the adults only region of the ship, it is not lewd.

I will also say that asking what MagicQuest / FamilyQuest are is kind of like asking a Texas A&M person what an Aggie is. They will tell you it is an Aggie, and I will tell you this is MagicQuest. Unfortunately, that is unlikely to convince you to attend, so on with the sales pitch...

MagicQuest is an in the room, doors-locked, scavenger hunt. I hate to divulge that because you might go prepared. The good news is that Disney expects everyone to come unprepared, and so they make the whole thing possible for someone who is completely unprepared. The audience is divided into teams of 6 to 8 and you have to provide the emcee with whatever it is he is asking for. An example, and a giveaway of the first request, is that he will ask for something red, white and blue. Everyone who has ordered a drink has a coctail napkin which conveniently has the DCL logo, which is conviently red and blue on a white field.

The teams score points by sending a representative to the front with the requested item, skill, etc to demonstrate or hand-off the item, fastest gets the most points.

Stealing is legal, and as this is Disney, creativity is rewarded. Which is why I will attend completely unprepared.

We won last time we played the adult version, thanks largely in part to three strangers who we never saw again on that cruise or afterword. But boy do all five of us have some stories to tell. My tongue can be loosened with the appropriate elixer. We missed the family version due to a conflict with early dinner, so we want to see what that one is about this time, too.

Erik
