August 22nd 2009 Western Carribbean Anyone?

Congrats, wayneg!

I think Colin will see through our ruse if we liquor him up at 11 AM on the morning of departure! :rotfl:

We are doing the second seating for dinner, but that makes sense given our situation as two adults with no kids who are looking for a little romance. That Dine and Play option gets a big thumbs-up from us! The goal was to pick the dinner with fewer small children (no offense to those who have them...we just want to enjoy "just the two of us" time for now!!).

That actually get me thinking...I know there are a few other childless cruisers here...is there any way to arrange things so we can sit together at the same table? I know, for example, I'd love a chance to hang out with Donald Applecore and DW!

Congratulations Wayne,
I always wondered how a moderator receives their title. It sounds like a real honor.

We would be up for it:banana:
From what I've read here on DIS, we just have one of our TA's call & ask the reservation numbers to be linked sometime before we cruise. (I'll bet you'll never guess which TA I vote for)

Sweet! I'll send Carol an e-mail today asking. I'm assuming you'd need to give us your reservation number, Bryan...would you mind PMing that to me? If not you can also e-mail it (there should be some sort of option somewhere on here for you to send me an e-mail...I also know that there's a link to my AIM screen name under my lovely avatar of Mac the Wonder Corgi :) )

Did you both grow up in Philadelphia? DW's family is from South Jersey(Cinnaminson area), but we both grew up in Memphis - of course now we're both Texans. :thumbsup2 DMIL is still a HUGE Philadelphia sports fan.

I grew up in Central Jersey (near Rutgers University), and FH is from central Connecticut (outside New Haven). We met when we were both undergrads at Villanova and stayed near Philly after graduation. That said, we've both become really attached to the area and it definitely feels like "home"....FH is slowly but surely becoming a big Philly fan himself, especially since we were both at Villanova at the same time Brian Westbrook was :)

I unfortunately can't say I have any familial connections to Tennessee or Texas, though! My mom's family has lived in Jersey since arriving in the US via Ellis Island five generations ago :) My dad came via Massachusetts, but family is pretty much clustered only in the Northeast.

I agree it can be a bit rushed on main dining, its what we have done on all 4 cruises and will be for this one. We prefer to eat then go see a show and relax, not the other way around. At home we always eat 5-6pm so 1st seating is just right for us, we don't like eating late at night, some people do.

Bit of news for you all, I have been made a moderator on UK trip planning forum today. After 6 years on there helping people get to see Mickey & friends they asked me a few days ago if I was interested in doing it and I accepted. :goodvibes

congrats wayneg:banana::banana:

Congrats wayneg!!!

OT- anybody nervous about Swine Flu???

Not so much about August, I think they will have a handle on it by then, but definitely rethinking joining my DH on a business trip to Tortola next month. Just not sure about air travel right now. :confused3 (and Tortola will still be there when he has to go next year)!

Although, I'm sure the risk is as great everywhere, as in a plane. I was at my book club last week with a friend who just returned from Cancun, I was in NY over the weekend and I live in NJ where they are waiting on confirmation of 5 suspected cases! :scared1: Gotta keep scrubbing our hands!!

We live in Mt Laurel, about 10-15 minutes from Cinnaminson!! Does she still have family there? And :cheer2: to DMIL and her Philly sports obsession!!
Citizen's Bank Park was rocking last night with our 2 Grand Slams!!! :yay:

I believe so, but at this point I think she is down to the random aunt/uncle/cousin. I'm not even sure if she would know the exact township w/o asking her mother :rotfl: I think its been at least ten years since she has been back.

If the question is worried, then yes, I am worried right now. I may not be worried later, but it seems the response in Mexico is not what the response in the US is, either. I also am CONFIDENT in Disney and that they will choose to reroute the ship if there is any chance of endangering the ship or crew or passengers.

I was just in New York and on two planes and rode the subway and was in Ohio over the weekend at a hotel. I worry that a fellow traveler exposed me, but I am not feeling anything yet, so fingers crossed. I don't want to be the one to bring it here.

Didn't I also hear that the Swine Flu is maybe not as bad as reported, that some of the initial cases in Mexico were another disease misdiagnosed?

Got my IBM Rational Certification while in NYC for AppScan Security Scanning.

Congrats Wayne on your status.

DH is HUGE Phils fan (loves all Philly sports, but the Phils are his favs). He was so excited about the game last night, but everyone else was in bed, so he had no one to share it with. I think he finally couldn't take it anymore, and came up to tell me the highlights. Lucky I love the guy :lovestruc, otherwise I might have decked him!

Actually, it was probably payback. He has to get up at 3:30 in the morning for work (but doesn't work Tuesdays) so he was asleep for the last game of the World Series. DS and I were so excited when the Phils won, we woke him up with our screaming.

RE: swine flu, I have to agree with wayneg, you have to wait and see. I heard on the news yesterday that it might die down by with the end of flu season, but that we will have to worry about it again in the Fall. If you ask the cruise industry, their biggest concern is probably still Norwalk virus (or is it Norfolk, I can never remember). Like Julieloo says, keep scrubbing :thumbsup2.

On our last cruise, DD was 4. Everytime we walked into the dining rooms, she would disinfect not just her hands, but up to her elbows. We were teasing her she was eating dinner, not performing surgery!

Well its final exam time for me - time to switch over to heavy-duty study mode. I'm sure I'll still manage to find time for DIS.;) Checking the boards makes for a nice quick break, and lets me daydream about my vacation for a moment before its back to the books. On a positive note, graduation is only 18 days away!:donald:
If only I didnt have a four-hour exam the night before graduation:crazy2:

Has anyone stayed at the Radission at Port?
Erik and i were thinking about changing our plans and spending Thursday and friday night there. We are just going to relax and swim.

Good Luck!! In 19 days you'll be :banana:!!! I had my hardest exam the day before graduation too! It stunk! All of my friends were partying and I was in the library (the only quiet place on campus)!! You'll be into cruise mode in no time!!!:thumbsup2

We've never stayed there either, but that is exactly our plan! We are arriving on Thursday and will be parked by the pool for the day on Friday. Hope to see you there!

I'll be close by at the Residence Inn Friday night. We'll be at the Kennedy Space Center during the day, then we'll check in sometime that evening.

Regarding swine flu, if I were in Cozumel today I would get off the boat and have lunch at Ernesto's Fajita Factory. As long as hands are washed and food is properly cooked, I am more concerned about the water than about the flu.

I get religious about washing my hands from October to December and rarely get sick; it won't be any problem for me to wash regularly now if needed. And remember, here in the US where we have exceptional health care and easy access to over the counter meds, the only person to die of the illness is somebody who was brought over the border extremely sick. I have had unusually strong illnesses in the past and have learned how to take care of myself, so I am not worried about the current H1N1 virus.

If you are worried, remember this - flu primarily kills in two ways. You can almost always avoid dehydration, no matter how bad the diarrhea, by drinking electrolyte solutions such as pedialyte or watered-down gatorade. If the dehydration gets too severe, any hospital can start an IV.
The other way flu kills is by congesting the lungs. So don't use a cough suppressant - expectorants and a vaporizer to keep the humidity up will help out here.
