August 2016 Car Rental Rate watch

Same here. I really thought there would be a drop after the holiday but no luck so far. I'm happy with where I am if that's as good as it gets. But I'm always willing to go lower. ;-)

Same here as well. I tried dates 2 weeks early in August and the rates were the same. I am still keeping my fingers crossed.

I can't find anything under $30/day inclusive. I wish I saw this thread a week and a half ago before those codes expired.

Nope, when I checked, it said that the codes weren't valid anymore.

Make sure you are not mixing up the coupon code with the contract code. That happened to me before. The first field is for the coupon code and I was putting in the contract code for Costco and got an "invalid code" message.

The contract code only is giving me my $30/day that I posted earlier.

I guess for the most part we ALL have to keep trying....I think another price drop is coming!!! The closer we get, the lower I hope it goes!!!

I show Costco.com for a standard car at a rate of $233.80 and directly with Alamo at $224.00 for dates Aug. 6-12. The Costco rate confirmation says "total" rate but the Alamo rate says "estimated." Are there any hidden or additional fees booking direct with Alamo?

I typically use Avis for business rentals and am unfamiliar with Alamo. Unfortunately, I don't have enough Avis points to use for this personal trip.

So...I just called Alamo to get an idea of Makes/Models for Mid-size vs Full-Size.

Midsize: Hyundai Elantra, Ford Focus, Chevy Cruz
Full-size: Chevy Impala, Chevy Malibu, Nissan Altima

I have a midsize booked...but it looks like I really need a full-size for 2 adults and 2 children. I want us to be comfortable and not tight. I know a midsize will be OK....but the full-size gives more trunk space and interior space. So I am going to keep my ressie until prices drop and try to score me a full size!!!

Are you an Alamo Insider member? They have a free upgrade deal right now. You get an upgrade from a midsize to a standard, and since MCO has no standard aisle so you choose from the fullsize aisle.

Yes I am an Insider Member. Right now the coupon code for the free upgrade(AU3Z64SDG) does not get me a better deal. The rates are too high right now. I am waiting for prices to drop and use either the FREE UPGRADE or the $25 off (AD3868JST). With the Costco Code (7014627) or BJs Code (7014696) I get the FREE ADDITIONAL driver which is necessary for me and DH. Right now I have a MidSize for $325.90...thats for 14 days (8/12 - 8/27)...COSTCO....using the $25 off...free additional driver and taxes and fees included. If I can get a fullsize for that price or lower, I am jumping on it. I am sure its going to happen...i just gotta be patient!! Thanks for looking out for me.....Lets all hope for another rate drop REAL SOON !!!!!

Yep, they keep going up and up every day. Really thought we would see a drop after the 4th of July. I leave in less than 3 weeks and am fine with my rate, just would've been nice to save more. Got a great price on my May trip, so it all balances out.

Dollar's prices are down this evening. About $70 lower than they were this morning.
