August 2016 Car Rental Rate watch

I just booked a mid-size SUV (Jeep Compass) out of TPA for 15 full days for $488 total. A few weeks ago it was $430 but I didn't book it and then the prices went up crazy. It is booked from Thrifty and it is a "pay now". It can still be cancelled or modified up to 48 hours before, with no fees. TPA is more expensive to book because of the $6/day storage facility fee (learned that on here). The price was actually only $272 before taxes. I will watch and check other rental car agencies as the time gets near. We're going 8/21 thru 9/5. Good luck to all.

Still hoping and waiting for rates to come down. I've been checking almost daily for the past couple of months, and the rates have not budged for me at all.

The best rate I can get is picking up at the CCC and returning to Shades.. Full Size $270 with Costco code, and $25 coupon.. The AS1 coupon bumps my price up.
This is for 8/9-8/15
This works for me as I want to take the ME

Rates still stink. 8/19-8/28 full size over $500

Who pays these rates? Not sure why they have not come down to something reasonable

Not looking good. Guess we'll be busing it!!

Should I be using the Brazil Vegas code that was mentioned earlier? I'll be in WDW from Aug 24-29. I used that code, the as1 code, and the $25 off for Alamo and got a compact car for $93 total and a full size car for $130.00 total. These were prices I would consider reasonable to name your price on priceline ($20-25/day). So looking at some of the price quotes on the board, should I be using this code?

I believe if you just use the AS1 product code and the $25 coupon you will get the same rate without having to use the Vegas Brazil code.

Isn't the AS1 product code a Brazilian travel code? I have a Ressie with it to but skeptical about actually using it. Seems WAY too cheap.

I have a late August booking with AS1. Regardless of its origin, the code seems to have worked for a large majority of posters here so I'm going to go with it. I did replace the $50 discount code with the $25, however, because people had been reporting that the $50 was expired and they had to appeal to an inside desk person or send an email afterwards to get it honored. My perspective is that, since I know the $50 is expired, I don't want to expend a lot of effort trying to persuade Alamo to honor it (even if I'm likely to succeed). However, nothing I have seen indicates that AS1 is unusable for any reason, so....I'll use it.

Maybe they learned to keep rates high to make up for those who use codes like the AS1 one, LoL! In seriousness though, I agree, it is still early and prices through a place like Costco for example will probably still drop but probably not as much as the as1 code with a coupon. I'll still be checking daily until the day before I leave as usual just to make sure.

Following. I made a reservation months ago for Alamo Economy 8/10-8/15 for $170. Admittedly that's not a terrible rate but I just made it as a placeholder and hoping to improve it. Before that one I had one for 8/11-8/15 for $128. I liked that one better and then we decided to add a day. I would much rather close that gap. Everything since then has been about $200 more.

Even my ASI rate has gone up since a few weeks ago for the end of August. Ugh...

Before I came here and read that everyone seems to be in same boat, thought it was fact that my stay will be a quickie of just under what they consider 'a week', that was tripping me up. I even booked a Saturday overnight to try to help the cause lol

For first time in ages feel the need to book ME jik things don't budge. Cannot justify paying more for a rental that our onsite hotel room.o_O

I don't expect the rates to come down until after the 4th of July. We went early August last year and I got a fair price.....not the cheapest, but better than what we see now. I like to check the current rates for the next few weeks, and those rates are pretty good. Our turn will come when we get closer. I don't even have a placeholder rate right now. I feel confident that I'll find something I can live with late next month. Good luck to all.....

From the July thread I got a single upgrade coupon AU2291VYT combined with the Costco code, with no product codes. I have 12 days for $375 which beats every other rate by over $100.

Prices are coming down a little bit. My 9 day rental is down to around $300 from a high of almost $500. The ASI code takes off another $100.

These codes can drive you nuts! When I add the AS1 code it brings my cost up! I've had the best luck using the BJ's codes so far (not a member of Costco)
