August 2014 Car Rental Deal Watch!

Not sure if anyone has seen or used this site before...

http://www.autoslash.com/

Seems that you put in your rental agency, confirmation # and other details, and if they find a lower price for you...they email you so you can rebook....

How did you get a lower rent than on the Alamo site directly? Did you use the "Smart Book" section in the upper right of the carrentalsavers screen to enter your rental info? Because I'm getting the same rate as I would find directly through Alamo's site. Am I doing something wrong?

Yes, I just used the "Smart Book" section. Today the rate on there is the same as on Alamo's site, and more than what I booked. Keep checking!

Nothing new for me today. My National ressie with the KLM discount is still my best price by quite a margin.

My boss's 11 day rental is down to $252 for a midsize with Alamo.

I don't get it.

Minivan for 8 days MCO is still $600+ everywhere.

And what's with the taxes and fees?

Minivan is $400
Taxes/fees $200
Total $600

I am at $350 out the door for a mini van out of MCO last week in August

carrentalsaver.com is where I found my van. It is thru ez rentals and I went to them directly and same price.

Still looking for a lower price.

Little snap back on prices today. Hope what we saw last week wasn't the bottom but today they all trended upward for my dates

I saw that too.

We still have quite a while to go. I am thinking we'll see some major bouncing around before its all over.

That's what I'm hoping for, anyway. Its a fun way to pass the time :) .

Received this email from Alamo - FREE UPGRADE

"Receive a free car class upgrade on your rental in the United States or Canada. Available on Compact through Midsize cars. Offer valid for rentals reserved by July 31, 2014, for travel from August 1, 2013 - August 14, 2014."

COUPON CODE = AU5235ASJ

Hope this helps someone. :wizard: Safe travels.

I've seen a few price drops this morning when checking the normal sites; Costco, carrentalsavers etc.

Recheck your dates and there may be further savings. This is time consuming, but in a way fun. I cancelled a reservation yesterday and rebooked because the price dropped ~$20 from one I made a month ago. Then this morning I cancelled the one from yesterday because the car dropped another $9 from yesterday, same place, same vehicle class. Go figure...

No change for me. I keep getting deals emailed to me for June travel.. Hopefully there will be alot of last minute deals!

Ping pong!

Prices shot up again all but Alamo.

Not sure why but I secretly enjoy getting a car cheap. My friends always wonder how I can get such good rates fro my trips. Mt response is persistence is key!

Alamo on Costco's website for me today went back up the $9 I saved yesterday. So on Costco's site, prices remained dang near the same as yesterday and the day before.

It's between now and say another month/1.5 months that the best deals will begin to roll in, one just needs to keep checking every day! :cool1:

The rates actually went down a other $10 for our 8-day one way rental. Woo hoo! That's $40 that we've saved this week!

I just noticed that spike in Alamo as well. The steady decrease that I started to see late last week and into early this week came to an abrupt stop mid week and now it's spiked back up higher than when I first started looking. I could live with the reservations I have currently, but I'm pretty sure we still have a lot of ping ponging to go through in the next couple of months and hopefully we can all catch another downswing!

It's like airline prices. The rates go up as the week wears on. The best rates are Tuesday/Wednesday. I booked with Dollar on Wednesday morning and it went up by that night.

Not always. My best rate so far has been booked on a Thursday afternoon.
