august 2013 codes for rental cars?

Wow.. I tried everything I knew and all of your rates are so high:sad2:. It's got to be that it starts so early in the month. The only thing I can think of is using Priceline "Name Your Own Price" feature right before you go. You bid basically and then when your offer is accepted they reveal the name of the company. All of the companies they use are in the Orlando airport and you will see a list of them before you bid. Car companies use Priceline to move inventory that they couldn't book. It only gets really low a week or less before you leave though.

I may give this a go if the price doesn't come down any before hand.

These are our exact dates as well. Found the best rate with Dollar - but we have never used them (only used Alamo) so I'm not sure what to expect. The rate I got was almost $300 less than through Alamo, which is why I'm a bit hesitant....

Last year we got Alamo for 14 days for a fullsize care at the airport for $293......we booked exactly a month before we travelled. I am really hoping for a repeat performance this year.

Dollar has some unfortunate fees such as unpaid toll fee which is $25 plus the toll.....if you end up stuck with no change or (as happened to us last year) the machine will not take your money. Alamo only charges $2 or $3 for the same situation.

I am trying to book these exact dates, but need to pick up in Tampa and drop in Orlando. I am getting Alamo quotes of $570. How can it be that a drop charge is $420? (Of course it doesn't even list a drop charge in the details.)

It's not the drop charge. It's just that the rates for Tampa are higher than Orlando for those dates. They don't drop across the board. It could be very high at one airport and very low at the next airport over. It's frustrating, and I don't know the rhyme or reason behind most of what they do.

The rates that I am getting are still CrAzY :worried:

This year we extended our usual trip of 9 days to be 13 - and I budget $300 for a rental. For 3 years now, I have always paid under $200 for a mid-size thru small SUV, with the average being around $155.

My dates are 8/6 10 pm pickup at MCO, 8/19 3 pm drop off at MCO.

As of today using a Visa code on Alamo (with "Insiders"), the quote is $610 :confused3 ... with a MC code ("free day"), it is $599.69.

With the KLM code for National (Emerald Club), the rate is $408.00. That one is a little better, but I am a little nervous to use it because of the "included" insurance and whatnot.

I have no idea why my prices are still so high. While I don't expect to score a rate as good as I did for the past 3 years, I am hoping for less than $300 for the 13 days. It's not looking good for me:faint:

Why would the "included" insurance make you nervous? As long as you joined the KLM club, right? I am a first time car renter, so maybe there is something that I am not considering or understanding that should make one nervous? I planned on using this code being as that I just joined the KLM club. Should I be nervous?

If you have joined the KLM Flying Blue club and have your membership information with you when you travel, you should have no problem using the code. The other poster is probably nervous after hearing that some people were denied using the Vroom Vroom code with Alamo earlier in the year (which also provided the extra insurance coverage). The Vroom Vroom code with Alamo and the KLM Flying Blue code with National are different scenarios as there is no membership link to the Vroom Vroom offer, while there is with the KLM Flying Blue offer.

I have an SUV reservation with National using the KLM code and I'm not worried at all. Which is saying something, because worrying is normally what I do best :rotfl: .

For those using the Alamo code, are you using 7015504?

I am renting in July (7/13-7/27). I'm using the Costco contract ID 7014627 with coupon AD2492ACX (I think this one is United Airlines). This combination is the best for me. Today my rate for 14 days pick up at FLL drop off at MCO compact car, went down to $97.73 a week, for a total of $293.14.

I also got a good rate at Budget for a compact car at $94 a week.
BCD: W852800 (Costco) coupon MUWZ020. This one also went down today. I am 11 days out.

The code that everyone seems to be using for KLM is NOT the code that National has on it's very own site for KLM/flying Blue members. That code is 5029507.BTW, KLM's own site does not list National as a car rental partner any more.

The code that "everyone seems to be using for KLM" is the correct code for the KLM Flying Blue rate. Try it. You will see it notes the KLM Flying Blue discount right on the reservation.

The code you have listed above is the Korean Air Standard Mile code. I can only assume this is a typo on part of the web developer.

Thanks, Just used the Alamo ones above and got $194 for a mid size 8/19 - 8/29 (with extra hours in there too). I am very happy with these numbers.
Do you know if they will ask for Costco or United Air coupons?

I click on Terms and Conditions on the coupon, and that brings up the Costco Contract # and the Coupon #. Then I print that in case they want something. Sometimes I had to show my Costco card to prove I was a member so bring that just in case. Usually, they don't ask for either the coupon or card, but you don't want to be without in case they do.

Unfortunately I paired down my credit cards awhile ago and closed my Visa and kept Mastercard for the better rate:rolleyes1

I am renting 6pm to 6pm. Where you are seeing the discrepancy is because I am *technically* renting a standard size car. But Alamo does not have standard cars at MCO, so whether you choose Standard or Fullsize you get the same cars to choose from. Just a little trick to save a few more dollars:)

Alamo does have standard size cars at MCO, they don't have a standard size row. They mix the standards and full size cars together. And, lately, the standards and full size are the same price, of course, that is subject to change at any given moment. :)

My past experiences they haven't ask for the Costco card or coupon. The coupon is on the Alamo website under deals, so I think they won't ask for anything.

Sorry.. that's what I meant:) A fullsize is 8 or 9 dollars higher for me right now, so since I'll be offered the same choices with either category I book the standard.

Yes. But has anybody found a way to click to that Flying Blue code? By that I mean can you get to it without using google? The last time I tried, I could not find that code by starting at the Flying Blue website and clicking to partners, rental cars, etc., at least on a site intended for US visitors and in English. I once found a way to start at a FlyingBlue or maybe AirFrance's site and click through to a Citer/National partner page that was in French and on a .fr domain (IRRC) that showed the KLM/FlyingBlue CID. But I can't seem to get there now.

Just because google will take you to an orphaned page doesn't mean the code is intended for Flying Blue members with US drivers licenses. (I'm not saying that it *isn't* intended, just that I don't take an orphaned page as proof.)

So while I have a FlyingBlue reservation myself, I still have concerns about the included LDW. It's not just because of the VroomVroom code....other codes that have included LDW/CDW in the past have turned out to be intended for foreign visitors with international drivers licenses.

Thanks for this! I found this United Mileageplus coupon right on the the Alamo website and was able to use it ( I signed up for a free mileage plus account). I was able to use this coupon, and Insider for a grand total of $181. That's two dollars more than my other reservation BUT I was able to change the drop off to four hours later. I was going to take the car back to the airport at 6 and then take the shuttle over to the airport Marriott where we are staying our last night. This way, we have it until 10 and don't have to leave Disney so early to get it back on time:cool1:

So I now have a ten day standard rental for $181.

Check Alamo as they have some great rates today...11 days, August 18-29, standard car for $248

Huh, August 18-29 = $202 right now (at Alamo with that UA coupon above) but start ONE day earlier... August 17-28 = $512.

The cheapest I can get a Full Size SUV for Aug 7 - Aug 21 is $914.79 through Alamo (renting in Connecticut) using insiders discount, and Visa code.

Any one have any idea what Alamos full size SUV fleet currently is?

AS mentioned, KLM/Flying Blue does not list National as a rental partner. If the code that National lists for KLM is for something else; well then I'd be VERY careful about using a code that has premium benefits beyond the norm!
