Isn't that the truth, but I am soooo glad everyone is so friendly and talkative here. Yep yesterday we had gone to the mall and then spent the afternoon in our pool and I missed 3 PAGES on conversation!!

You are going to love Nikki's Mickey heads!! She pm'd me mine and I printed it out this morning. It is sooooo cute. Now to go get dressed and get to Walmart to pick up those laminating sheets. I know, I know it's 8:40am and I am still in my jammies, but I've already hung a load of laundry on the line.....that's something, right? :laundy: Then it will be another day around the pool. My hubby is visiting with friends today so it's just Victoria and I!!! And it's absolutely gorgeous out today!!! :beach:

Nicki, LOVE the bag. That is actually one of my favorite patterns! I think I need a Mickey head! I was only skimming the thread though, so let me know what info you need! :) Thanks!

I love it. My DH will be carrying our backpack in the parks but if I put it on there, I don't think he would have a problem with it. I have designed some t-shirts for our family and will order them next week. when they get in, I will take pics and post them here.

Sure! Just send me your first names. :thumbsup2

Nikki,

I would love one of those. My first name is Karla. My DD will think this is a hoot!!!!:lmao:

I'll PM you in a minute!

I am so jealous of all the people staying at POFQ getting that list and those team August tags together!!! We will be there at the same time but wrong resort :( that's a great idea though!

The tags aren't only for that group! They are for ALL of us going in August! I'm not a part of the Port Orleans group!! What is your first name? I'll make you one!

Yay for Disney duds to wear!!! :woohoo:

I really want Minnie ears but I think I will wait to get there to get some. I didn't see any I liked online.

I LOVE the Snow White shirt!

If anyone has Netflix they have several Disney Parks 'documentaries' on there. DH and I just watched all but the one that focused on just Disneyland. My favorite is the Behind the Scenes one. Enjoy!!:happytv:

I watched all of them....they are great!

Do a search on YouTube for thecoasterviews. They have full videos of all the coasters in WDW. I watched the Expedition Everest and the Rockin Rollercoaster ones and they were great. They are somewhat dark when inside but you can get a good feel for the ride experience. Maybe that would help your husband with his indecision. Sometimes the unknown makes the fear worse.

I record them every time they are on the Travel Channel, they are all saved on my DVR. I like Samantha Brown's Disney Favorites.

46 days to go!pixiedust:

I am torn this time between wanting vacation to hurry up and get here and not wanting summer to end. We get back the day before school starts and that brings back the school schedule and homework and lunch packing and getting the uniforms ready etc. I am enjoying a different routine for the summer so far.

We had an interesting development in the last week that I would love my fellow August trippers advice on.
My 8 yr old son has just started soccer this month. He had a game every night this week for a tournament. After the first one he complained that his feet hurt and was walking on his tip toes. By the end of the 3rd game he came home and would not walk at all! He was almost in tears. It didn't hurt in the mornings or all day, but was very painful a half hour or so after.

We went to the doctor and two things were discovered. One, he has completely flat feet. How did I not notice this? They are flat as a pancake.
Two, because of his recent growth spurt and his completely flat feet he has developed Severs Disease. Not really a "disease" but a growth condition.

Symptoms

Complaints of pain or tenderness in the heel (or heels)
Discomfort upon awaking, or when heel is squeezed
Limping
More severe pain after walking or exercise, and increased difficulty walking
Pain during running or playing a sport, and/or walking is witnessed

We have been referred to a specialist for orthotics and physiotherapy.

As it relates to our trip. He is fine as long as activity is not too strenuous and spends most of his day completely ok.
It is after strenuous activity that he hurts badly.
I am not sure what to do on the trip. He is ok to go. And of course we'll take it easy but I have zero idea how the long days of walking will be.
Do you think I should be prepared to rent a wheel chair?
My understanding is that Disney only has adult size ones but I suppose it would do in a pinch.
This is very new to us. Best case scenario he will be fine to walk as always. I don't think so though because even playing in the sprinkler without shoes on for an hour yesterday gave him pain.

We won't cancel because A) this could go on until he's done growing.. 15 or 16 years old.
B) He is fine 90% of the time and we can make adjustments.

He's still cleared to play sports, he just has to stretch and ice his feet.

So what would you do?
Maybe I should post this on the disabilities board? I am so confused.

Sorry Pigletto about your child's feet. My personal opinion is that you should take it as it comes. If, in the middle of a park day he is hurting, then you can go rent a chair. Maybe he will make it through the trip with no incidents at all. It's one of those things that you really can't plan on. I always say prepared for the worse, but expect the best. That's just how you have to live sometimes.

Big hugs to both you and him. :flower3:

I LOVE the Snow White shirt!

Me too!!!! Love both of them actually but really loved that Snow White one. I think I will wear it my first day! :)

I record them every time they are on the Travel Channel, they are all saved on my DVR. I like Samantha Brown's Disney Favorites.

I love Samantha Brown too. I've seen a few of her Disney ones. I actually watched the DVC Hawaii video online. I got a free picture for doing it but I mainly wanted to watch it because I like her and love Disney. lol I did a search on Dish and the only thing that was showing up was those Disney Parks documentaries and then some My Yard Goes Disney on HGTV. Hopefully the Travel Channel will show some Samantha Brown before August! :)

So what would you do?
Maybe I should post this on the disabilities board? I am so confused.

You might want to post on the disabilities board but I would just do the precautions they say and then if he starts hurting get a wheelchair or ECV from Disney and then set up for another full time one from an outside company. But I wouldn't reserve it now because who knows he could be fine. I think if he's cleared for sports he should be okay. He might just need some extra TLC at night. Hope Disney Magic keeps him pain free! pixiedust:

I started working on my tour plans/schedule. Right now I just have open/close/parade/fireworks/adr times on them Can anyone recommend some good sites besides easyWDW for tour plans? (not that its not great I just love multiple sources) I had some other questions but I can't remember them at the moment....

I love that everyone is so friendly and helpful on here too. That is a such a blessing since this is my first visit. I want to see and do as much as possible and these boards definitely helped me plan ahead.

I am so excited!!! :hyper:

Thank you guys. You confirmed what I was thinking. I'll make a plan and likely not need it. If we go without a plan, we'll need one:rotfl: That's the way we roll.

Poor kid has an August Disney curse. Hospitalized for appendix issues in Orlando in August of 2010. His appendix ruptured the day we got home from our August 2011 trip (he had stomach flu symptoms for about 24 hours) and we spent 2 weeks in the hospital here:(

So I fret about this stuff for our trips. But there's always a wheelchair there if we end up needing it and spending our afternoons in the pool would be great for him and still fun so I know we'll be ok:)

ETA) And believe it or not this child is healthy the rest of the year. I don't know what the heck it is about him and vacations!!

My DD has something very similar. Her's is more related to the tightness of the tendon in her legs. Lots of pain after exercise, and two rounds of serial casting, we discovered after therapy and orthotics that stretching is our best friend. This has been going on for many years for her. Our first trip was a tough one, she really milked it for all that it was worth. The second one was easier. We planned lots of rest throughout the day. I think just be prepared stop and rest if he needs it. Good luck and ask any questions you want, i've been through it all with her and her legs...lol

I havent really posted anything on here but have been reading the posts faithfully! Our trip too is right at the end of the summer, the week before school returns but we are Ontario, Canada where school wont be back until beginning of September. Agree, cant wait for our holiday but dont want to wish the summer away either.
We would love one of the tags - my first name is Emelie. Thanks for doing this, so awesome. We are staying at the Poly - has been a trip several years in the making for us so VERY excited! Looking forward to keeping on reading this thread! :)

It sounds somewhat similar. He is flat footed and just had a growth spurt. The doctor said basically his tendons didn't grow as fast as he did and that there isn't enough "give" or range of motion when he runs/jumps/walks.
I still am unsure of the exact treatment regimen because we are waiting for the next appointments until mid July.
I imagine it's a lot of trial and error and seeing what they are able to handle?

My other concern is that if we do end up getting him a chair it will help but I know when we park it and he gets out, he'll bounce through the line like an 8 year old boy. I'll feel bad wondering if people think we are milking it.:(

But I tend to borrow trouble where it isn't necessary. I imagine all that matters is that we will know if he needs it or doesn't and it won't matter what others think.

Welcome Emteach!! We're in Ontario too. You will LOVE the Poly. The location/atmosphere is wonderful!!:)

Welcome fellow Ontario-ian! Where will you be staying? Are you driving or flying?

Poor guy!! My DH also has flat feet and wears orthotics. They make a huge difference. I actually had to get some for DS when he was 4 because growth spurts were affecting his knees (he's only 6 but taller than many 8 year olds). They had them done with 2 weeks and were $100 (small price to pay for pain free days! ). Can they get some done in time for your trip? It might make a big difference. Best of luck!!
