August 2012 Car Rental Thread

We are a party of 4 adults and 2 children who are landing at MCO on Sunday August 12 and renting a full size car out of SOG through National.
What is the best way to get to SOG to p/u our car ? We are staying at Star Island and not at WDW. Would it be easier to arrange p/u at CCC ?

you will need to hire a car service to get to SOG.

Alamo has some pretty good rates out of MCO right now. We're renting a Standard size (but will end up with full-size as they have no Standard row at MCO) for 206.00 for 11 days.
I don't know what your other rate is, but once you add in the cost of the shuttle it might be cheaper to go the Alamo route.
Sign up (for free) to be a member of their Insiders program on the website, then do a search while logged in as a member and use this coupon code for $35 off.AD2359FDF.

Maybe that will help:)

ETA) Just read your post more carefully. You aren't going to get 4 Adults in 2 children in a car of any sort. It's going to have to be a minivan or maybe a bigger SUV.

It's so odd the way the rates drop for certain dates and not others in the same month. My rental is over a holiday weekend (Labor Day) as well, so you would think it would be higher.
All I can suggest is check every day, and 2 or 3 times a day if you can. It can fluctuate wildly.
I remember for our last trip there was one day about 6 weeks out that it took a huge dive and gave us a great rate. Then in the same day it dropped 10 or 20 every 4 hours or so.

Just booked with Alamo this morning, 17 days (Aug 16-Sep 2) out of MCO for $373 all in. I tried with Insiders rate, but it was a better deal with my AMEX corporate code and the above Coupon code of AD2359FDF:cheer2:

We had two cars booked, back to back but this is way less hassle for $35 more. I'll take it! Might luck out and it will drop again:)

Alamo, for my dates (August 26th to September 2), is down to $143.57 USD for a full size (with Alamo Insiders membership and $35 coupon).

My current reservation is through Budget via Expedia.ca. It was prepaid back in February and totalled $143.52 CDN.

I still would cancel and rebook with another provider if (a) the rate drops below what I am currently paying (we got a Chevy HHR for $68 all taxes and fees included for our New Years trip with Alamo....hoping for that rate again!) or (b) we can get a minivan for the same price as our full size reservation.

I have promised DH that I won't go above what we have already paid just to get a van. There's only three of us, after all :) . But we have a Dodge Journey here at home so it would be nice to have something larger than a full size car for our vacation.

My National rate has not changed from yesterday :sad2: but my Costco (Enterprise) went down $30 from yesterday & Alamo went down $40 from yesterday

Dollar has pretty low base rates right now - my dates has a base rate of 109 with tax comes to 168. no coupons at all.

76892 promo code brings it down a bit lower.

Finally!!! While playing with it itdroped to $217.

edit: Just added my costco id and it dropped to $194.

Was this with Dollar? Where do you put your Costco # & what # do you use? Not your individual Costco I'd # I am sure & I can't find a Costco corp # on their travel website :confused3

Thanks!

Thanks! Beat today's lowest rates by another $10! Down to $236 for a Full Size 8/15 - 8/25.

Where is the promo code from? Just wondering.
