August 2012 Car Rental Thread

$103/week total through National, up to full-size only. Pick up is listed as Shades of Green, but if you call the CCC beforehand, you may pick up your vehicle there for the same rate. (They drive the cars over to SOG, so it saves them a trip.) You may return to SOG/CCC or MCO.

1) Open Kayak in one tab and National's website in another. Sign in to your Emerald Club account; once your sign in is confirmed, close the tab.

2) On the Kayak homepage, click cars on the top center.

3) Choose to drop off at a different location; for your pickup location, put in "Lake Buena Vista, FL" and "MCO" for your drop off location

4) Input your dates and times, no need to select to compare to other sites. (Unless it's changed in the last hour, this is the best deal going.) I selected 5:00 for you, since 4:30 wasn't an option.

5) Wait for the options to load completely; click on the National option for the full size car; it will say "$20/day, $205 w/ tax". The National website will begin to load in another tab.

6) The National website will load, and will show you a total of ~$140.xx

7) On the left hand side of the screen, select "Edit Trip Information"

8) The traditional booking screen will come up. Leave the Contract ID and the IATA# alone; in the Coupon box, type ND8578ADT.

9) Click "Continue". Depending on your saved preferences with National, it may take you to the vehicle selection page, or to your pre-defined vehicle choice. If you have a saved preference that is different from what you are pricing now, simply click "Edit Vehicle Selection" on the left hand side.

10) When you have selected the appropriate vehicle, your total for a full size will show the $102.xx

How do you go about returning the car to the CCC and not to MCO since you have to select MCO as the drop off location?

Thank You for posting this. I was able to get this great rate for 9 days at the end of August.

I have a Question. Can anyone pick up a car at Shades of Green? I read on this mousesavers page http://www.mousesavers.com/onedayrentals.html that you have to be military to pick up a car there.

I just hope the reason for this great rate isn't because it is supposed to be a military rate. I don't want to call National and ask as I don't want to call attention to anything and spoil it for anyone, but I need to be sure I have a rate I can use.

Has anyone talked to the CCC and been able to pick up a car there and get the SOG rate?

Excellent thought here. usually, when something is too good to be true, there is a "catch" and I wonder if the catch is the military id at SOG. HMMMMM...

Ok rental experts, we need the answer on this one.

Ok rental experts, we need the answer on this one.

We've stayed at SOG and rented a car for daily use before and we weren't asked for a military ID (though we also weren't getting any discounts.) even though we did have military IDs if needed.

None of those codes would indicate a military discount though. They're far better.

I would probably call SOG's National office just to ask.

If you look at your confirmation, this is not a military "code" - it's a Kayak special. If you are worried about picking up at SOG, just call and ask to pick up at the CCC.

Several posters have surmised this is intended to cycle cars from SOG/CCC back to MCO. This seems to be how one way discounts usually work.:)

You're very welcome to all! I'm glad to be able to help anyone out; I'm still struggling to beat my $277 for a minivan for a week  so if anyone comes across a minivan deal, send it my way :thumbsup2

Please share the company and the code you used. i have a minivan for 10 days and its 524. all taxes and fees included. Is the 277. just the base rate or TOTAL?
Thanks!!!

I need/want a minivan too. My minivan reservation that I have is from the KLM code that was posted in a different thread and used a $30 off coupon. For 8/23-9/3 the total I got is $503.
I haven't seen it any cheaper or a better deal since.
We have more than one driver in our group so when you posted your code, I booked 2 full size cars for the same dates above for a total of $149 each car....cheaper by about $200 but still two cars. I'm going to keep watching and see if I can get the mini van cheaper but if you have the option of two cars, you may want to think of going that route.
We are staying on property so we wont have to pay parking at the parks either.

To the poster who asked about returning to SOG or MCO, initially when I found the rates, I searched for both and either return was available. Subsequent searches didn't allow, but at my initial post, it did. My math is also wrong in one step; because the steps are so long, I copied and pasted my post from another board when I was walking someone through it for their 10-day rental.

The person who booked from that post then called the number National's CS number gave me for SOG; that number was answered by the CCC. That rep told her that she could pick up at the CCC if she wanted to call first, since they provide the cars for SOG, it makes it easier for them.

No, it is not a military rate; military rates are not publicly available on sites such as Kayak. On the price breakdown page, you will see that code is Kayak's; the coupon is also publicly available. We are military, and pricing with the military discount is stated on the page as a Government code. As for needing a DOD ID to pick up a car at SOG, I have no experience with this myself, so I can't speak to it personally. I would simply call the CCC the day before and request to pick up there instead, if you are concerned :)

We have a split stay, so will be paying for parking, so two cars isn't the best deal for us. Since we have a minivan reserved for $277 all-in, we would pay more total renting two. But maybe for someone else this will work!

Grrrr...Cannot get the Kayak rate. We would p/u the car 8/26 but working backwards, 8/24 is the latest date to p/u a car at those rates!

Thank you for taking the time to provide us all with such great information! You have save me and many others quite a bit of money with your research!:goodvibes

I have been checking rates for our August trip for several months now - and have seen quite a few fluctuations in price.

As of today (7/2), I have a full-size car reserved with Alamo for 8/8/12 to 8/16/12 (8 days) for $219.36. That is using a BJ's code and a code for AA for an additional $35 off. I still hope to do better as my last year's rental was $160 for a week - and it was for a mid-size SUV.

I plug in my dates daily - and have seen the price as high as over $400 for my ressie.

So can you pick up at the CCC instead of SOG for a decent rate?

That's what the CS rep at the CCC said when asked, you just need to call them maybe the day before to let them know you'd prefer to pick it up from them, you can't reserve it that way :confused3 As always, YMMV, but SOG is walking distance from the Poly, so it shouldn't be too difficult either way.

Are you staying onsite? If you can pick up at SOG and drop off at MCO, you can get it through National/Kayak for $127 all-in.

If anyone is looking for a one-way rental from MCO to Disney, Enterprise is a really great rate! I used August 16-August 23, and I get a total of $162 including tax. The drop-off location is Disney Royal Plaza Hotel, which offers customer drop-off service. No corporate and/or discount coupons used!

I already have the one-way car booked from SOG to MCO from August 23-Sep 2. for $168 total. Seems like a bit of a hassle, but the way the rental prices have been, it is the cheapest way so far!

17 days for $330, that compared to around $700 for the same period...

So can you pick up at the CCC instead of SOG for a decent rate?

This is in NO way aimed at TandEsmommy, she found this GREAT rate that I am able to use and extremely grateful, however I was the one that called the CCC and it was approved for my rental. I don't know if that would be the case for all of them. Before you go this route, I would plan on picking up at SOG and if you get pixie dust maybe you can pick up at CCC.

I had it approved by the woman I spoke to and she had to talk to a manager so please don't make the assumption you can pick up at CCC.

My original plan was a bus to Poly then either walk (1.1 mile) or cab to SOG.

We're staying at Port Orleans Riverside, so we can take ME from the airport. We would only need to go to SOG to get the car if we take advantage of the deal that was posted.

Yes, I understand that, but you orignially asked if your DH could take ME to SOG to pick up the car. I responded to that. Why not just rent a car from the airport or from the CCC?

the really great rate through kayak is only for pickup at SOG .

First time poster: I read about becoming a KLM Flying Blue Club member and joined up today. I now want to rent a car/van from National Car Rental from August 12 - 25 and want to know how to combine coupons to get the lowest rate possible. Is my KLM FBC number considered a contract ID number or what ?
When I tried to book a vehicle I saw no reference to a " passport rate " nor was there any opportunity to enter any coupon codes. The best I could do was $ 377.00 for a compact car. I have a coupon for a free upgrade NU3637ZD3 but there was no place to enter it ?
How do I join The Emerald Aisle club for free. Someone mentioned that this can be accomplished through mousesavers.com ?
By the way I`m renting at Orlando airport { MCO }

You put the KLM code under Contract ID and the coupon code under Coupon ID. I found the best deal was using KLM code plus the $35 code ND8578ADT, but you can try the upgrade code to see if it gives you a better discount.
