I agree with you about not signing out, but when they turn 10, I think they can go as they please in the lab.

Last January my daughter was 11 and she still needed our permission to sign herself out. We chose not to allow it. The other girls in her age group had the privaledge and flaunted it in her face and it bothered her a lot. One evening when I was picking her up at abiut 12:30am a mother was going crazy looking for her daughter who was no where to be found. She asked all the other children in the group if they had heard where she was going and who she was with. Just because a child is "old" enough to check themselves out of the clubs, doesn't mean their "old" enough to act responsibly! My daughter was peed off at us for not giving her more freedom, but we always knew where she was...Mark

Have our name down to get ds the Nintendo DS. Had one in my hand at Wal Mart yesterday, but the register broke and I had to get to work.

Think it will be a great travel toy, even better than Game Boy Advance.

Our ds always changes his mind right until Dec. 25th, so his usually early gift buying mom is always on her toes.

I keep thinking this will be good for the down times on the cruise etc., etc. DD is still happy though with her Game Boy...not as much of a gamer as ds.

Thanks Mark, because if they let our dd check herself out, she'd be with dh and I the whole trip no doubt about it. We need to know she is safe! We too do not even let her play out front, and we watch her as she walks a few houses down to her best friends house. We need to keep our kids safe! Ds 13 is getting more and more independence, and I must say it is easier with him. We keep a tight rein but he does get to go places with his friends. We are a little CA suburb, but things still happen. (he also has a cell phone for emergencies and so we know where he is and we do checks...just waiting for a GPS to keep track of him in detail - ah, it's hard to let them grow up!) HURRAY to you and Sandra for being wise!

It's not so much wise as it's a sign of the times. I grew up in Queens, N.Y. and I had lots of freedom, yeah times were different, but at age 44 not that much different, I know the trouble me and my friends were able to get into and out of and I don't want and won't allow my kids the same chances that I had. We did allow her to walk off with some friends during down time on Deck 9. The rules were pretty simple, don't leave deck 9 or 10. For our upcoming cruise in Jan., she's 1 year older and she thinks she's 10 years more mature!! NOT!! I told her that she can have all the freedom she wants the day she gets married. She now begs regularly for a cell phone. I told her when she can earn the money to pay the monthly charges, she can have one. Now she complains that the only way she can earn any money is by doing very hard things around the house for very little money.(Child Labor- Gotta Love It)

Hello all,

I am primarily a lurky-loo and confess I have read/skimmed every post on this thread. However, I finally have something of interest to say. We are from the Northwest and have been hoping for some cheaper airfare for our flights to California from Seattle. I check every Wednesday and today Alaska Airlines posted some $88 airfares. Same flight was $175 yesterday. The 10 of us are now booked from SEA to LGB (Long Beach). We could have held out for Southwest to come out with their cheap fares, but $79 (before taxes and fees) is the cheapest we've seen for a year or so and didn't think we'd beat the Alaska prices. Also, our Alaska flight is direct and all Southwest flights into the LA area require a connection.

Now back to our regularly scheduled thread... :earboy2:

I just wanted to say THANKS! Great deal! I wish I would have seen this earlier today. We booked PDX to LAX for $88.10 each one way! That is a GREAT deal! The flight from MCO to PDX should be pretty easy to get a good deal on. We were going to use FF miles, but for that price we will save those miles for a more expensive travel itinerary! The only flight left was the non-stop late at night. So, I will be calling to book at the Holiday Inn tomorrow.

Thanks again! Keep us posted for cheap fares from MCO to PDX! :cheer2:

PS. Paul are you flying into LAX, too? We are leaving Friday night late! At least we won't miss the boat! pirate:

Melinda, When you go to Epcot for dinner, ask your server for the special dish for Ship of Fools Sisterhood members only. It's called the seppuku special. Bet you don't have the guts to try it. You probably couldn't stomach it. It is a cut above most other cuisine.

OMG!!! are you a psychic or something?? :earseek: :earseek: I only wish you read your post before i left!!!

Ok, regarding Jap food in Japan tonight ...Well, we had a nice dinner but just before dessert, i felt faint like and quesiness in my stomach so I immediately got to the bathroom and..Well, you can figure out what happened there!! Don't know why!! Mark, Grumbo, were you in the kitchen doing something to the food??? LOL!! but i felt better afterwards!! Weird!! Now normally i don't share something like this..but because Mark posted above, i laughed so hard and had to share my story...and my stupid DH, Bob, do you know what he said??? You think he felt sorry for me??? NOOOOOO, he said to me, "OH, great, that my money that just went down the toilet!!!" MEN!!!!! Of course, the C Mas candlelight show was fantastic!!

I am now sitting out on the patio facing DD waiting for fireworks to be shown in 5 mins...Bob, Bri and Alex are all asleep!! Too much cruising got to them!! Me, i am a night owl!!!

Ivanova, Forgot to congratulate you on your promotion!! You will do a great job!!

At first, i did like the sisterhood letterhead, but i got skepitcal!! I know something is amiss!!!

Mark quote: "Why can't we just get along??" HA!!!!

Regarding kids clubs and signing priveledge...My DD has sign out priveledges but she does not abuse it and did it only once while on cruise and i have the club page me before she signs out..and we have a designated place to meet. NO way that Brianne will got off the ship without a parent, i hafta agree with Arlene there. As much as i know Bri is responsible, but it the others i don't trust!!!
Arlene, just so you know...If Lara has more friends that are older, she maybe able to go in the 10-12 year old club. If you feel that she is on the mature side, request it to the club. they will put her on a trial basis for a day and see how she do...I put my 7 DS in the 8 and 9 year old on this cruise because he is more mature for his age and he been in the 5-7 year old 3 times already and was bored with it...Even though he won't turn 8 til March, the club put him on a trail basis for a day and of course, he stayed with the 8/9 the whole time. He loved it!!!
Just wanted you to be aware of that option....ahhh here are the fireworks. NICE!!

Barbara, hope you are feeling better!!!!Get plenty of rest!!

Ok, Sayonara!!! (Thanks Arlene, i learn something new every day, that is for sure!!)

SHIP OF FOOLS SISTERHOOD ALLIANCE LAUNDRY MEET
6.– DenverVal (Val)-Remover of Cleaned Wet Clothes
Oh Mark, nice try, but that is so NOT HAPPENING.

Regarding sign-out privileges, we allowed both our DDs, 9 and 11 to have them, but they were required to page us before leaving and to let us know where they were. They usually went to Scoops, the drink station, our stateroom or their friend's stateroom, which happened to be a few doors down from ours. They were not allowed to go swimming unless one of us was with them. They got used to that freedom really quickly but didn't abuse the privilege (they were warned that it would be revoked) They were bummed when we left the ship and they weren't allowed to go anywhere unescorted anymore. I was under the impression that no one under 18 was allowed off the ship without a parent. Even if this is not the case, it will definitely be my rule.

:grouphug: Sisters do not do laundry for stinky men, and they certainly don't do it when the stinky men assign it. Perhaps they have mistaken us for people who like them or enjoy their crusty clothes. I agree with Susan about tossing them in the ocean, I am just afraid of the polution it will cause and the threat to wild life. Therefore, to mitigate this, I suggest we throw the crusty clothes into the trash compactors with the men in them. Seems more ecologically sound. Garbage in, garbage out.
Owwww!!! That's pretty harsh! LOL!!!

We are flying down Wednesday morning. It's been a while since we've been to DL so we thought it was worth checking it out before the cruise.

Paul

Have a great time @ DL! We love DL because it is small and everything is within walking distance.

Are you flying into LAX then?

I am so happy with the $88.10 one way fare? We don't usually see that good of fare from PDX to LAX! :earseek:

Hey guys!

I just wanted to let you know that Melinda behaved herself pretty well on the Wonder. I did hear rumors of some redhead running around on deck 4 shouting "I'm a fool" on the sea day, but I haven't been able to confirm that as yet!

Actually, she did me a BIG favor by making our Palo brunch reservations for us and DW and I enjoyed their company at brunch.

Wish we could go with you guys on the Ship of Fools next year, but I am just NOT sure that is going to happen right now. I may still wait list and just make the decision if and when I get my call!

Have a great weekend!

Are you talking about me Bob??? Was it during the time i had a ruler in my hand??? LOL!! also, does my hair look red?? I never thought of my hair looking red!! It more like a dirty blonde but, MEN, what do they know about women's hair????????

Janet, Yes, i love the SSR...I didn't think i would but i do. Have yet to swim at the main pool, but i went by quickly and i hope they are planning to build another active pool.I think it is not big enough to accomodate all guests when they are finished. They are really building lots of rooms!! It will be bigger than Old Key West.

Family is still sleeping and i am enjoying the bright morning. Going to AK later.

Why I Fired My Secretary. . .

Two weeks ago was my 45th birthday and I wasn't feeling too good that morning. I went to breakfast knowing my wife would be pleasant and say, "Happy Birthday!", and probably have a present for me.

As it turned out, she didn't even say good morning, let alone any happy birthday. I thought, well, that's wives for you, the children will remember. The children came in to breakfast and didn't say a word. So when I left for the office, I was feeling pretty low and despondent.

As I walked into my office, my secretary Janet said, "Good morning, Boss. "Happy Birthday".

And I felt a little better that someone had remembered. I worked until noon, then Janet knocked on my door and said, "You know, it's such a beautiful day outside, and it's your birthday, let's go to lunch, just you and me." I said, "By George, that's the greatest thing I've heard all day. "Let's go!"

We went to lunch. We didn't go where we normally go; instead we went out to a private little place. We had two martinis and enjoyed lunch tremendously.

On the way back to the office, she said, "You know, it's such a beautiful day. We don't need to go back to the office, do we?" I said, "No, I guess not." She said, "Let's go to my apartment."

After arriving at her apartment she said, "Boss, if you don't mind, I think I'll go into the bedroom and slip into something more comfortable" "Sure!" I excitedly replied.

She went into the bedroom and, in about six minutes, she came out carrying a huge birthday cake ----- followed by my wife, children, and dozens of our friends, all singing Happy Birthday.

And I just sat there ----

on the couch ----

.........naked.

We leave tomorrow around 7 AM for WDW. Have been busy since I last posted and there are pages to read. But I just don't see that happening. So did anyone post anything about the cruise itself in the last, say 20 pages? Probably not. Oh well there will be another 100 pages to read when we get home. By then Melinda will be back and the guys will have shaped up. Did I just say that? Well I'm right about Melinda being back. :wave2:
Melinda if you are lurking hope to see you on the 7th. I plan to wear my lime green tee shirt for the cruise. Can't find my DIS pin. I think I may have thrown it out. Just look for a green shirt and a tall guy wearing a lime green pin. That'll be Phil. Of course check the name before you assume it's him. There could be imposters pretending to be him. :yo-yo:

See you in 10 days or so. Estelle :cheer2:

:earsgirl::earsboy:

By then Melinda will be back

Huh?
Did she ever go!?!?!?!
She posts as much while on holidays as when she is sitting at home, and Bob is out slaving away to buy her more DVC points and new vans.

Cheers,
Grumbo

Yep, I figure she'll petition DVC to do away with the 2,00 point limit pretty soon.

Last spring the folks at BWV told me she was the sole reason they had to put high-speed access in. She's probably got the bandwidth sucked down to pretty much nothing this week at SSR...

Ah OK Jazz now its beginning to make sense. I had read on the DVC board about some member they called MSM that had brought their web access to a standstill. Now I realize it is MegaSurferMelinda!!!!!!
Wow!!!!
Poor Bob. He is going to need a holiday to recover from this!!!!

Did you see Melinda's post on the other board where she is a mod????

Hi everyone. Im just writing to let you know that Im sitting watching the ducks on the lake at SSR. I see 4. No hang on a minute there are 5. Oh now 2, OH GEEZ theyre all gone!!! Damn alligators!!!!! Well the kids are in the lake swimming but I dont want to lose my webtime here so Ill give them a few more minutes. Dont think the alligator can get over to this side of the lake that quickly.. Oh darn this gator must be the Mark Spitz of reptiles. Gotta go.. Be back soon... Melinda

Cheers,
Grumbo
