Anyone done any research about vaccines or meds we might need on the trip? I was reading about anti-malaria drugs this morning on the CDC website. Not pretty!

Wondering if any are really needed?

Just planning ahead like everyone else.

Thanks,

Very doubtful - unless you plan on jumpin' ship in the canal and heading for a rainforest :) I think we're okay if we use DEET and take other basic precautions against mosquito bites.

And, hey, if you get malaria, so what?! I don't think I'll ever have a chance to get it again. It's just something to tell the grandkids!

This past August, after checking with our doctors, we (me, DH, DD) decided to collectively get the Hepatitis A shot for our Western Caribbean cruise. We just felt it was preventative medicine -- especially if we ended up eating off the ship. They come in two phases, six months apart. Our next set is in January. Then they're good for 10 years, so they'll also be effective for the repo cruise.

My Doc told me not unless I was planning on visiting a rainforest, no shots needed!

I told him since I don't know what type of excursions are available I could not tell him at this point and time!LOL

Plus we will have to see what DCL tells us as well!

Time will tell!

I have done the PC cruise before with princess and consulted a UK Doctor before, apart from the usual boosters and updates they said if you are eating on the ship and traveling onshore for limited times during the day we would be fine.

Of course do all of the usual things, if going onshore avoid stagnent water, eat from ship, were insect replent.

We did a rain forest trip, but it was in costa rica, on a stop before Acapulco. we were ok

On panama canal bit the only thing you need is a sun hat and suncream!!! and lots of water.

Did you guys get the Hep. A vaccine? Sounds like you are getting the Hep. B vaccine. 3 shots within 6 months sounds like Hep. B

Yes we had it too, I think Hepatitis is pretty standard and suggested for all places abroad where the food, or water is not up to a high standard.

Itsn't it to do with blood?

We had to have it for going to Turkey in the past, also Tetanus is a routine jab you should have on a regular cycle I think every 5 or 10 years.

As mentioned before doctors here appeared to be more relaxed about being on a cruise ship and not staying overnight.

WDW has the occasional outbreak with all of its water, I know we had a letter given to us on arrival last time about spraying going on, and avoiding stagnant water.

Scratch,

I don't know what these people are thinking...drinking water on a cruise? Especially this one! I have a feeling we're all gonna need some serious detoxification (alcohol-wise) after this trip!

The only time I intend to be in contact with water is in the pool, shower, ocean or the spa.....all external....well except for ice to have cold martini's.....but, that is negligable. After all, none of us wants too much blood in our alcohol level!!!!!

I figure we can practice - during the summer at our backyard barbecues....

Gotta build up for this cruise !

Jazzman -- I'm ready for my quiz <G> All caught up on the thread <G>

I know what you mean........ water!

My very first cruise, way back when, I was told that if you drink only alcohol that you won't get seasick! I proved that theory to be correct!

When the ship pitches, you pitch the other way so it all evens itself out! It's like you are walking straight!LOL

This is not the case with water!LOL

So which would you choose?

Have A Disney Day Everybody!

Dave is in Mexico so John is in the office all week! YUCK! He don't appreciate my "Personal Time" on the computer!LOL

So gotta keep it to a minimal!

Thanks for all of the info everyone!
I'll have to check with my doctor. If we need six months between shots we better start soon after the beginning of the year!
