I just sent off my photos for the "Happiest Faces on Earth" event for DL's 50th! My dad took a darling one of my mom and me on our first visit many eons ago--I was two! princess:  DH found his from 1961 :earseek: and sent off a few too. We hope to see them included in one of the murals next year! :goodvibes

Hello everyone, I do not know if anyone else knows about this, I was talking to a friend who is in the travel industry and he said that there is now a special agreement to allow shops on cruise ships to stay open, when in transit on the Panama canal.

As you know usually all of the ships shops close anywhere near port or land for customs reasons.

Now DCL can set up, selling PC souvenirs in transit and I understand some cruise liners even set up on top deck for the day for convenience.!

Thanks for the info. Andrew, that would be awesome! DenverVal, best wishes with your photos - that would be precious!

Ds-13 wants to go for a quick visit to Island of Adventure upon our return from the Ship of Fools to FL. We'd only stay Saturday night and fly home to CA on Sunday. I need one day to recup, back to work for the new school year for me that Tuesday and you just do not miss the first work day in education for anything or we'd gladly stay longer and hit WDW too!

QUESTION: Anyone stay on-site at Universal? We thought that would give us the front of the line feature. What do you recommend?

TIA!

AIRLINE TICKETS - Oh yes, just purchased our direct flight airline tickets for the four of us on American for only 126.50 each one-way ticket...could not pass it up!

Barbara (Who needs to catch up on the threads, but it's time for church here...back later!)

Stayed at Royal pacific last year and we had the FOTL passes, it was very good, I wish Disney did it for its resort guests.
You are guaranteed that you will never wait for more than 15 mins, On all bar one ride that was the case, in fact most of the times we walked pass the queue and straight on.
Only one place did they have a problem and that was a 25 min wait, At IOA we did the whole park, inc 3 Popyee's rides and Spiderman 3 times and went back to the hotel at 3pm.
The best bit was walking pass the Shrek 4d Q and going straight on, the sign said 2 hours!
Royal pacific is an excellent resort and easy to get to the park by boat.
I plan to by FOTL Pass for Universal Hollywood next year, it is a cost but well worth it!

Tracy: when you are more awake, you must fill us in on your cruise.

Too bad you couldn't find out more info about the PC cruise. Hopefully as time passes, we will get more details.

We leave Thursday for 2 weeks. I can't imagine what this thread will look like when I get back.

We've been to USO several times. Absolutely stay on-site - it will be very worth the extra money (especially that weekend.) We've stayed at the Portofino twice and Royal Pacific once. All of the USO hotels are very nice, but I really like the Portofino. I don't know if there will be any discounts that weekend, but I always get a good rate using the Entertainment card.

I also agree that staying onsite a USO is a must.. we stayed at the Royal Pacific in August and FOTL access is AWESOME. We got a great rate with the Entertainment book and did the entire US Park and were still back at the hotel by 5PM....

I would stay there again without a doubt... beautiful hotel.. great pool....

Ginny

Hi everyone, this is twhipple. I decided to change my user name so that it is not actually my name. I've used winotracy on other boards, so we'll go with that. It's not because I'm a lush, it's because I like to collect (and drink) wines. Hygiene99 thought this change would be appropriate for this group anyhow.

Thank you very much Andrew, Ginny, and DonnaDavid! I really appreciate the feedback and tips. We have an entertainment card so I will make sure to look in to those rates. Thanks so much for your help! Ds will be thrilled with the opportunity, he loves IOA!

Winotracy, your name does fit with this thread! ;) Thanks for the heads up so we know who you are! :)

Happy Sunday all and thanks again!

Barbara (PS Tracy, just saw the update...thank you very much for doing this...that's a lot of work and I appreciate it!!!)

We just stayed at Universal this past August before our 8/28 Western DCL cruise. We stayed four nights at the Royal Pacific and LOVED it. It is a beautiful hotel. Well laid out and very nicely decorated. Be sure to go into the back garden -- we were told the statues back there were brought in directly from Thailand.

They have a wonderful waterway system that takes you right to the parks. And on some days we walked -- it only took 10 minutes.

As for FOTL -- it was awesome. Like previously mentioned, we had been avoiding the Shrek attraction all week due to the lines because we were told they didn't have fast pass. Well they don't -- but they have front of the line (two different things). FOTL is only for on-site guests. We walked up to the ride when the sign said a 90 minute wait and got in in 5 minutes! It was unbelievable. AND -- also be aware that the FOTL also works for the restaurants. We went to several restaurants, including Margaritaville, that had hour or more waits and got in within 15-20 minutes with our FOTL. Well worth it.

I also stayed on site prior to a cruise. It was fantastic. You could walk everywhere and the FOTL was FANTASTIC!

Thank you invaderzim and kpgclark for your input too! Ds is very excited to hear the good experiences and tips, and dh and I are getting excited too!

Thanks again!

Barbara

Melinda, We are leaving from ABE (LVIA) going to Cincinati then to Orange
County. We have those tickets on Delta. The trip home is straight thru. We also have our ressies for the HoJo. DH got those Friday night.
I have forgotten who is doing the shuttle from HoJo to the port on Saturday. But if I didn't say so before we are definately on for that. Just the two of us.

The weather around here is getting more and more fall like. Down to 39 tonight. The leaves have started turning on some of the trees.
The days are getting shorter for the cruise. Can't wait, soon be less than 300.

Estelle

I just printed out the updated index of this thread. Wow! What an awesome job you did with it. I haven't kept up with this thread and I am hoping the index will get me somewhat caught up.

Darlene

You'll notice I'm still about 20 pages behind. I'll get caught up this week though.
