America West used to have a bad reputation for late arrivals.....but in the last few years they have really improved. They are now the only airline I fly(I have their FF points credit card). I feel they are a really good economical airlines. :)

We fly Frontier and always have direct flights. Never been late. We won't buy until next year some time.

Thanks for the article Grumbo.

As far as it being the hurricane season, I am up for a "mystery cruise".

Andrew, how have you managed to book your open jaw flights this early?

I don't want to start an argument here but...I would NEVER fly American West again. I was stuck in Chicago in May...not the airline's fault, terrible weather...but the worst customer service I've ever encountered. I've since read on Frommer's website that the company nickname is American Worst...there was a long thread a couple weeks ago about the problems.

I know many people like Southwest because of their good prices, but I agree that their boarding is horrible. We flew to San Francisco last year and each way we had to split up and sit in the last aisle in the plane. We were in the "B" group each time. Maybe if you are traveling alone it's fine, but with children I like assigned seats.

Disneyland turns 50 on July 17, 2005. Makes perfect sense that they would have a special "Birthday" cruise!! Interesting how the writer of the article doesn't mention the birthday.

With an airline like SW, i am surprised they do split family!! That doesn't make any sense...I would pitch a fit if they do that to me...Well, i guess i won't be flying SW!!! LOL!

Worked my four 12's in a row & now have three days off. Yeah!

GRUMBO: I loved the article about why the Disney Cruise line went to California. It always makes me feel LUCKY that we are booked on this cruise.:boat:

Hope you all have a terrific week. N.J. started out with rain but now it is just hot & humid :sunny: Toodles:wave2: :earsgirl: JEANNE

Most times on SouthWest u can get folks to move around to accomadate your party .. the Flight Attendant we had Offer free Drinks so the Family Would not be Split up .. another time

a woman offered to move so a family could sit togher and was rewarded with a free Flight.....

Even with assigned seats you can be split from your children. I had a connecting flight on US Airways in May and hustled (ran!) from one flight to the other. They had DD6 and I seperated by 5 aisles. I wanted them to make a change so we were seated in at least the same aisle! The attendant had the nerve to tell me I should have gotten to the gate sooner! I had to literally, very calmly, stand in front of her until she realized that I was not going away until she found me a seat closer to DD. She was not very nice. But she did get us in the same aisle. Fortunately, the attendant onboard saw that I was seated away from DD and took it upon herself to move people around so that we were seated next to each other. The desk attendant said I would have to ask myself once everyone was seated. I can't imagine that any airline wants minor children seated away from a responsible adult in case of an emergency. I've never had a problem with Southwest.

We are going to fly SouthWest because you can buy 2-1 way flights. Other airlines want about $500. for us to fly from New Orleans to lax and from Orlando to New Orleans. If I could buy my tickes from Southwest it would be $ 134. $99 to Lax and $35 from Orlando. Another good thing for Southwest is they have a non-stop to lax with us ariving at 10 am and non-stop from Orlando with about 5 dif times in the afternoon.

We normally fly United but Southwest does have the cheaper one way fares. So we will be waiting for Southwest to offer their fares which hopefully will be 3 - 4 months before we cruise!

We found our airfare to Tampa from LAX on Song to be unbeatable. for less than $300 for 2 people we have a direct red eye. I hate Southwest's cattle call. For the money I am spending I want to at least pick where I'm sitting.

I have never heard of song. What is the full name of that airline, and do you know there web address?

It is run by Delta. It has limited flights. their website is Flysong.com

I flew on it to Fl and it was pretty good. They had nintendo game boy for kids and personalized TV for adults.

I was doing some looking at the car rental companies and still find, so far that Enterprise is by far the closest drop off at the port in L.A.. While looking at that I took a look at where it was in reference to the Holiday Inn. I was quite shocked to see how far the H.I. is from the port. It is nowhere near the water or harbour really. I took a quick, and trust me it wasn't an indepth look, at other places that may be closer and came up with the Best Western. Now I can't remember the site you can get reviews of hotels but maybe someone has it but the following hotel is right by the port on Harbour Rd and "looks" good.
Ivanova this is not a slam against the H.I., and I am very appreciative of everything you've done so far and still have my H.I. ressie, but want to know if you or anyone is familiar with this place and if it is a viable option?
The address for the hotel is http://book.bestwestern.com/bestwestern/productInfo.do?propertyCode=05324

The rate for the Best Western THIS August 19th is $72 including a continental breakfast. Looking at the photos it is NOT the Ritz but looks "good". However I know from experience that the only way to know is if you've seen it yourself or stayed there.

If you have a map programme you can see the proximity of everything by looking at these addresses:

Holiday Inn - 111 South Gaffey Street, San Pedro
Best Western - 525 S Harbor Blvd, San Pedro
Enterprise Car Rental - 233 N Harbor Blvd, San Pedro

Anyway lots of time to think about this but thrown out there to cogitate on.

Cheers,
Grumbo
