Andrew, how have you managed to book your open jaw flights this early?

Sent you a PM as we are not allowed to advertise here.

Thank you all about your comments on America West.

I'm interested in the open jaw flights as well especially if they are fully refundable.

Mine are with a UK operator so I would not be able to help you, on USA flights. Sorry.

(They are actually only deposit paid so the balance isnt due until 60 days before going).

Grumbo, thanks for posting the Best Western web site. It is certainly not beyond me to book a budget hotel. I like the idea that it is close to the port. Years ago we stayed at the Carousel Inn by DL and ENJOYED it but now people are saying to stay away from it. Personal preference maybe or years of decline...who knows. Do you think that Enterprise has a shuttle to the port? Does any car rental have that in CA? I am just curious as to how we are getting to the port from anywhere.

Wow, SW cattle boarding leaves something to be desired. I believe that they come into Denver but not very many flights. Think that I would stay clear of them just because of boarding. One time Delta couldn't keep my family together (at the time the girls were 14) so they put us in first class leaving the Wings actor and his family in the other section. Thought that was very nice. You would think that they would bump them up.

Now I know why Grumbo is so anti-Costco. They look like they are rip off artists! The caskets are a good example - you may be able to get them cheaper at Costco, but did you see how short they are!!!

I never was going to take a shuttle anyway JC. I was considering dropping off the gang at the port, driving back to the rental place and see if (1) they will give you a ride as it is less than 3 or 4 minutes away, (2) they have a shuttle so no prob (3) take a cab.
If anyone has the site to look at reviews I'd like to see. The drop off from Vegas with Enterprise is $100. We're getting a van so I'll talk with Jazz. Maybe he and I could do a JGE deal from the hotel to the port with the van. :) KIDDING!!!!!!!!

As I say this is just something I am looking at right now but the location seems a bit better than the HI.

Cheers,
Grumbo

Took my Mom to the Dr. & then "Mommy Sat" until my Aunt came home from her Dr.'s appointment. Is this the "CIRCLE OF LIFE"?

Lots of interesting info. I feel SOOOOOOO lucky to have a cabin on this cruise:boat: We should all feel very priviledged.

Hope you all have a great week. Toodles:wave2: :earsgirl: JEANNE

Just finished catching up on the 11 pages of posts that I missed while we were away.
Sorry Andy that you won't be with us. But do understand the reason.
New Hampshire was lovely. The nights were cool, in the 50s and the day time was only aroung 80. A bit humid several days but we managed to live with it. My new knees worked really well. I managed to hike in to a water fall which included 147 steps. That was one way. We took pictures of me standing on the stairs for my surgeons' "after wall".
Have to have Phil check out all the posts about airlines and hotels.
Off now to work on the huge pile of laundry that is awaiting me.

I did some more checking on the costco deal. One good thing is that if you buy one from them, you don't have to pick it up right away. They will let you wait until after you die - then you can go get it! Don't have to store it in your living room! Costco calls this their "Ultimate LayAway Program" (or should that be "LieAway"????

I don't have a public place to store the DIS meet photos and the DIS board public storage space is still down. Would anyone be interested in giving me their e-mail address so I could send you photos from the meet and then you post them?

You can open a free account with one of these:

http://www.imagestation.com/

or

http://www.hpphoto.com

I use them both all the time since the DIS board one has been down. They're very easy to navigate around.

What's the catch though? Do they make you accept lots of spam or put attachments on your e-mail or anything?

No catch that I have seen. There's a lot of people on the DIS boards that use these two. I think you do have to put your email to register, but it's no big deal. If you don't want to do that, you can always create an extra email account for free at yahoo or someplace and use that as the one you use for this.

I have used both of these for quite a while and have had no problems with either.

Hi all, just checking in. Getting very busy with the new house. We get the keys on Sept 1st. Hope to do some moving Labor Day weekend and then have the movers do the rest during the week.

Maybe after we move and go on our cruise and the holidays are over, I will be able to spend more time planning this cruise.

Hi All!

I haven't posted in a long time. Just wanted to let everyone know
I am still around. One of my daughters is getting married in December. So I am busy planning the wedding, working on our Oct cruise and now I need to focus more on this cruise.

I'm ashamed to say that I lol , there is a post on the main cruise thread wondering if our cruise is sold out. I refrained from posting the answer that came to mind. It's too late by about 3 and a half months.
Had a nice day today. Finished all the laundry from the trip and then the stuff that was sitting in the hamper from before we left.
Off to put it away.

I got a reply from Willie Simpson at HoJo regarding his recommendation for a Shuttle to the port on Aug 20. Here is a quote from his email to me;

"I actually figured out a good shuttle option for you folks. It’s called Karmel Shuttle and they are the folks who already package with the Catalina Express folks to get people from Anaheim out to the island and back. They use the same port areas as the cruise ships. How convenient!? _I told them the situation and he came back with a good rate and people can book online. The rate is $18pp one way from the cruise ship terminals to the hotel here in Anaheim. Booking online at www.karmel.com, click on “online reservations”, enter HOJO for the group code and you’ll be on a booking page. Here you choose the cruise terminal under the AIRPORT heading and then one way, round trip, whatever is needed. Currently they have the Catalina terminals but not the cruise ship terminals listed. I asked them to add those this week. You can still book, as the rates are the same, for the closest terminal and email them later to make the pick up change. That’s if you want a confirmation right away. _Let me know if you’d like another option. Karmel drives directly to/from Anaheim whereas if you go with a Super Shuttle type service you might stop several times on the way in funky places."

I was pleased with the rate Willie got for us. I did go to the website and had a problem selecting the pick up location - no options showed up. Plenty of time to work that out. I guess the questions are - how many people are interested?, and how do we want to do this -individually or as a group? I see no reason this can't be worked no matter where people are staying - may need multiple vehicles and pick up points. Worst case - everyone meet at HoJos on the 20th to depart! I don't mind coordinating this as long as I'm not footing the bill. For now, let me know if you are interested, where you plan on staying, and the # in your party. Either reply here or send a PM.

For those planning on making reservations at HoJos, Willie said those should be available to reserve in about two weeks. I will keep trying to make mine, and when I'm successful I'll let everyone know and repost the procedure, and rates.

Bob,

Thanks for the info on the shuttle, I don't think you can beat that price. Me and the DH are in for the shuttle, and we definitley are staying at the HOJO's. As for doing the shuttle as a group that sounds fine with us, what does everyone else think? We think it would be great to go as a group, and if the group is large enough they may give us an even better rate. Keep us posted and we can't wait to contact HOJO's to make our ressie. Thanks again.
