I like the idea! :thumbsup2 I will purchase the lei's or ribbon if you all want me to. Do you want to do both? Just let me know soon.

Great work on the fish extender!

Okay everyone, here are the totals so far:

9 families:
Donald & Daisy Duck
benseven
disney4dana
disneyfreak103
MickeyBeast
Dale-n-Chip
Dizzyworld
Exempt5
dramaqueen92

17 adults
17 children

Did we make a decision yet on whether it is just for the kids or if the adults are receiving too?

I have two thoughts on this matter - (a) if it's just the kids, we could spend more money on each gift and (b) some adults would like to get the gifts also

I will go along with the majority.

When I did a web search this was one of two places for lime green leis. This place was the cheapest. It would run about $1 - $1.50 (price goes up a little when the number goes down due to shipping) per lei this includes 3 day shipping. They seem to only have 69. I go to 70 and they say don't have enough. I don't think we will have that many people. I could be wrong.

How this worked last year was that one person set a deadline for ordering and sending money to them. They placed the order. They had a list and passed out the leis at either the terminal or at the DIS meet.

They did look great. You felt you were already at the party. It was really easy to identify each other for the first day. We wore them through dinner and the show.:cool1:

An easier thing would be lime green ribbon for people to attach to their lanyard, although not as festive as the leis. ;) Having both is a nice idea too.

What is everyone's thoughts on this?

Hello everyone,

OK...I will chime in....I haven't sent a PM with room numbers yet....since I really think that we need to keep this simple and fun. The biggest reason for "connecting" early on this Board, as I see it, is to share ideas, and connectr for the sake of kids and adults. Our cruise experience, both Disney and many other cruise lines, is that the FIRST DAY MEET is the key. :cheer2:

Ithink the other major reason is getting the kids to connect...and at least feel that they can meet and get to know someone they can go to the Club, or Lab or Teen Center with....sort of "break the ice". Not bad for the adults either. I also think that once the cruise starts, there just is NEVER ENOUGH TIME to do all you planned....so I am really not in favor of having a JOB. If I or DW have to go to 6 or 10 or even more staterooms to leave gifts....it just may not get done.........then some feelings may be hurt. Anyway....I think we all want to play together, not have an assignment.:headache:

Soooo....I suggest...Keep It Simple and let's not lose sight of what we want this Board to do for us all......some of us will communicate via fish extenders with one or a couple of others....so let that happen....but let's help break the ice by bringing really simple stuff.....no real expense here.....post cards, key chains, and other "stuff" from souvenir shops....specific to where we are from. For example, one DD lives in Venice CA (muscle beach, etc) and the other DD in Santa Barbara. DW and I live right next to Malibu....lots of stuff from these places to give to other kids who may never have been here....and it's a fun memory. Our grandkids still had stuff from 1st cruise 2 years ago.

I suggest we all bring pleanty of this stuff to the Promenade lounge...and exchange right then and there. Then...no assignments of looking for staterooms later...or next day...or whatever. That doesn't mean such stuff can't happen....but it doesn't need to if folks get busy, and no kid will be left without a gift....:confused3

Just a thought.......

I like bright green ribbon idea...but will support either...and happy to have us all wear leis.....

Now.....for real Pirate stuff.......pirate:

Several thoughts..... I agree we should keep it simple but I know my kids even if they are teens would enjoy the giving/getting secret gifts as a suprise.

I think the ribbon might be the easiest for everyone to start with. Do they give you lanyards at check in? I cannot remember. It would be easy to attach lime green ribbon to them or take the alien green mickey head from Home Depot and make a necklace.

I think we should all agree to meet at the Promenade lounge at a set time. i think everyone was leaning toward 3pm. I think it is a great idea for the kids to meet before we sail away. We will still be on board from the 3 day so obviously we do not have to unpack or wait for luggage so we are totally flexible and will do whatever the group decides. My girls will hopefully know the ins/outs of the teen activities and will be a good resource at that point for all the others. We could also agree to meet for the sail away party at a set place for those that did not make the first meet

As far as the gifts it matters not either way if is kids or adults. If we know the room numbers in advance it would not be hard to hit 9 rooms rather quickly. As I said I know my kids will be caught up in the excitement of the suprise and will love getting and giving....I will probably let them be the ones to find the cabins......:thumbsup2

Ps to StewieL- we will see you on the parasailing...you are going to love it. DW and I did it before on Castaway Cay and had a blast. The kids weren't big enough then....they are totally looking forward to this. :)

I agree that the ribbons sounds like the easier idea to go with. We can just pin them to our shirt or our lanyard. Yes, last year they gave out lanyards if you were a castaway club member. Although, my kids have lanyards from pin collecting anyway.

As far as gifting...I am obviously in the fish extender frame of mind. But, I do have two teen children who will enjoy placing the items at the rooms and looking in the fish extender for gifts. I don't think it will be that time consuming if we have a list of the room numbers. And yes, the gifts are to be kept simple, not expensive.

Just my thoughts.

i think we should do the fish extenders still and do it as a surprise because i think it will be more fun if you are out playing all day and you get home (room) and there are surprise gifts waiting for you. It would give you something to look forward to all day you know to be able to go home and there something waiting for you

Yes, my children did the delivery of things on the last cruise too. A few staterooms are not a problem.

LeeAnn....you now got me thinking about getting a fish extender too! :lmao: I wasn't going to do. We'll see. Another idea was just a small tote bag. (I wish I knew how to post pictures on this board.) I saw this 8 X 10 item on Ebay. I wish I could find Mickey material. Every time the fabric is on the shelves, it sells very quickly.

A lot of great points have been made since I last read the meets thread.

I agree with Stewie.. This should be simple and fun and we all shouldn't have to stress about what we're going to buy. I personally think I spent so much money on this vacation already, plus the money I'm going to spend while there, they I really can't afford to spend too much on presents. I like the postcards or keychains idea. Maybe even something simple like Disney related items from the dollar store (Mickey pen, Cinderella Diary, Tinkerbell notepad..something like that) and include a little note on who it's from.

I think my DS8 would love to run around dropping off a few items to people's fish extenders. I think if we simplify it to only a few families each, it wouldn't be as much of a chore.

As far as the fish extenders go, for those of us that either can't or don't want to make a long FI.. How about just something with a pocket and a long enough string that will hang down past the fish and room # (I think I read on the FI instuctions it's 8 or 9 inches). I know I can sew a pocket and add some ribbon to the top to hang. Just an idea!

Now about the door signs. I would love to do one, but I'm not that create as far as using my computer. I scrapbook, so I'm good with that kind of thing, but not really good with the programs. Anyone willing to help me make one for my family???

I can't believe we have about a month left. I'm so excited!!

IMHO it seems like with everybody is wanting to do a little of both for the FE. the kids will be happy with gifts on arrival and surprises at the door. A win win situation. so let each family decide where they want to gift. The decision that is needed is adults and kids or just kids.

I have surfed sevaral sites and found leis reasonable and personalized ribbon reasonable as well. So either is good. Leis were around .25 (one site)or .99 (another site). The personalized ribbon was 19.95 for 27 yards. Plain ribbon was 9.95.

Jen76b--
let me know your family name and I can try to post a sign. you would just need to save it as a picture and then print it out on magnet paper. Or use your scrapbooking to make a sign then take it to a copy store to laminate.

Dana

I think I'm going to use some scrapbooking supplies to make my door sign. What I'm thinking (and that's dangerous, me thinking :rotfl2: ) is I'll put together an 8 x 11 scrapbook sheet with stickers and embellishments, then I'll scan it. Then I can add names and dates electronically without actually using my original sheet. In theory, I could use that sheet to actually scrapbook. You know, if I did that kind of thing. LOL!

Of course, I have no idea how to do all this. But that's my idea! What do you crafty people think? Will it work?

It could work that way if you have a good scanner. Or just try taking a good digital picture and uploading that into your computer for alteration.

Anyone out there wanting to try their hand at photoshop to customize and play with pics--photoshop has a 30 day free trial. You could download the trial and play with it for magnets and such. And not pay the $500  for the software unless you decide you like it. www.adobe.com :thumbsup2

It seems to me that people are concerned about how many people we are talking about. Right now we have 17 kids (all those who have PM'd me). If we add in the adults, we have 17 of them as well.

As far as when to gift, just so I understand, we can give out at the Dismeet or we can deliver to the room via fish extender. I know it's probably impossible, but whoever is going to deliver at the Dismeet should have an item for their child as well, just in case they are the only ones gifting at the meet. I don't want anyone to feel left out.

Dizzyworld: I am going to order my extender on ebay. It's about $6.00 with a few dollars shipping. There is a link somewhere in this thread. But, the one pocket extender sounds just as good.

Jen: You can always go over to the creative Disboard (Pat does the greatest designs) and ask them to make a personalized design for you and then you can print it on magnetic paper from your computer (buy it at staples). If you need the link, ask me. Although, your idea sounds great!

I agree :thumbsup2 Pat and Amy do wonderful disigns. That is where I got some of mine.

I do agree I think people are concerned with how many adults want to participate in the gifting. do you think we need to set a deadline to sending a PM? Some people may not have checked in recently. :confused3

Donald and Daisy Duck--
Any opinions on the leis or ribbons? Thanks for the link to the lime green leis the color is better than the ones I found.
