August 18, 2010...Can't wait for the MAGICal Mediterranean!!!

Bummer, another payment came in before mine and now if we want to do the tour after the cruise it is 80 euros more since would have to get a Spanish driver and an English speaking guide. Oh well! I will see if they have anything available the day we get on the cruise.

OK, I have read alot about what women have to pack.... like how you need capris or a cover up or something like that when visiting a church on a tour. And there are not many guys on this discussion board. Here is my question... I am doing my last minute packing (we leave in about 1 1/2 days) and I wonder if I can or can't wear shorts in a church? Seriously. :rotfl:

Greg - from what I've read, you can wear long shorts if they cover your knees for both men and woman. My DH is wearing slack.

How about those pants with the zip off legs? Zip on for churches, then off again to get cool!

And my DH agrees with Mindy's comment. Knee covered.

Drive to Ca almost over. Total time about 16 hours. DD very good, considering. Cats, however, a huge pain in the a**! kitty drugs didn't work so well on one of the cats and she ended up whomping on the other cat. We ended up letting them out, which worked surprisingly well. Cranky cat took up real-estate on top of cat carrier, in between wandering around and shedding. We came armed with a lint roller......

Sorry to hear the kitties were bad....are you leaving them with your dad in CA? We're kenneling our dogs. I was going to have my cleaning lady watch them (she usually does) she comes 3x a day and walks them and plays with them and spoils them. After the house behind us burned down and the 2 dogs got trapped and died (7/4), I feel better having them at the kennel just in case.

Yeah, my poor dad is getting the honors. When we booked our plane tix, we knew that the next door neighbors were moving and the other person who might have house sat would likely be unable to. Cats are independent, but 2 weeks is a bit long. And with their neuroses, kenelling wouldn't work well.

pretty busy day - took DS to school to get his schedule and walk the building this morning, had breakfast together - then the kennel calls and says - we need the dogs updated shot record before we drop him off... Hmmm - called the vet 3 weeks ago on that.. placed another call on the way to work.....I knocked out everything my boss had on the must be completed list (stayed late but feel good)....

good news - our fish extender arrived today... DH got some euros today... Journals put together.... boy those have to go in the carryon... tomorrow should be an easy day at work - then hit the final TO DO list!

We are meeting up with a friend in Nice - and I need to find something to bring to her for her hospitality! I just can't think of anything.. (I am officially brain dead)

we leave MONDAY!!!

Is your friend European? Take something "American" that she can't find in France such as American T-shirt (Hollister or Abercrombie are popular here), or ball cap, travel book from your area, chocolate chips or candy, etc. If your friend is American, you may want to ask her what she would like you to bring;) I personally love candles, soaps and lotion from Bath & Body Works that are not available in Europe...maybe not as sophisticated as fine french soap but something different!

Thanks again for all your work on the journals - can't wait to see how they turned out :goodvibes

Sounds great Lori. I'll have my little problem during most of our cruise...we are so lucky. We're probably packing Sunday and Monday. I'll be doing laundry tonight and tomorrow and tomorrow is Haylee's haircut and my mani/pedi.....

After you pack, I want everyone to post how many suitcases you have, for how many people. The reason I ask, is because on my last DCL cruise for the 4 of us, I had 4 suitcases and we each had a carryon and my DH carries a cpap machine and his computer. When the car came and picked us up, I heard the driver snicker to someone "you'd think they were leaving for a year." I just want to see how overpacked I am.

I plan on having one suitcase for each of us and then one extra for shoes and other stuff and then carryons. I'll have foldable suitcases with me too for extra stuff I may have on the way home.

As of right now, I think we'll haven about 6 suitcases with little to no carryons. I'll post the final number tomorrow!

Hi Mindy, we will have one suitcase each and one carry-on each. (5 people) Our suitcases are just under 50 pounds and the carry-ones just under 22. On a Disney cruise we need to bring extra stuff... magnets, costumes, SHOES! :lmao:
Safe travels to everyone who is leaving! ;)

That sounds normal/average to me. Of course, I just returned to Germany with 150 lbs of luggage for just 2 of us :lmao:

We are much more limited with the flight we have to Barcelona on German Wings. Each bag can weigh no more than 20 kilos...44 lbs. And, we had to pay for each checked bag!! So, we plan to have 3 checked bags and 3 carry-ons.

We will have 3 suitcases, one laptop bag and two carry-ons this is due to strict limitations from the airlines over here in Europe. When we went to visit family in the states last Christmas we each had two bags and on carry-one for a total of three weeks.
