August 18, 2010...Can't wait for the MAGICal Mediterranean!!!

Okay I love the journal idea. It looks fantastic. I didn't think of doing something like this but what a great way to make it fun for the kids to journal thier time. I can't wait to see all the other ports. Is there something I can help with?

Jennifer

Jennifer,

I think we have all the ports covered - actually I don't believe anyone is doing Barcelona - that would be a good one to do. Pixie's format is exactly what we had spoken about - if you don't have a mac and can't do the fancy stuff (like me) - crazy4dals who organized it is collecting them all by July and said she'd format them.

Welcome Vicky!

How exciting that you are getting to go back again! I know quite a few people are coming from Europe and may want to participate in a FE (some Americans may as well). I think if it is kept to minimum and just smaller items people may be interested ( I may be if we get a few people together- and yes I am decorating my door lol!). Feel free to ask around if you would like and organize! I am trying to organize a Dis meet as well. I have done a few meets and such s I have no problem doing that, some people may be able to come and others may not. The group is getting so big that I think it is going to be a blast because usually more people=more fun=more people you know around the boat imo! I have also set up a little website (link is in the siggie) to add all the disboard members to so we can all identify each other and know who is who.

As for the kids journals....I started one. I was hoping you all could have a look. Keep in mind I do not have kids, and I am a teacher so I am always reaching with history and such lol! I tried to keep them fun and simple but there could be something I am overlooking.

Mary - I love what you did....but I think you did the wrong port...wasn't goofy doing Villefranche? I don't know, I'm so confused - can we get a listing again of who's doing what?

Mary that looks AWESOME!!!!! Wherever you teach is LUCKY to have you!!!!!!

I have a question for you seasoned cruisers.... I am very concerned with this dining time thing. I will have a 6 month old on the next cruise. Would you think she would be better in the earlier setting or the later setting? We breastfeed and will not be introducing solids before the trip (that is a lot to handle at one time!) so I was just curious what your opinion is. We don't tend to use a stroller so I highly doubt she will just sleep there as she only likes to sleep in my wrap or in her bed (our bed, we cosleep but she is put down before we go to sleep in her crib next to the bed). I guess I am just so confused as to which setting would be best for us. Right now we have the early seating but I have called the travel agent like three times and switched it back and forth. AGH. She recommended the late one bc of the ports being later but that does not seem like a problem to us, we are only planning one intense day (rome) so if we happen to miss dinner then we will just go up to the buffet :) Either way, I just wanted your opinion, it's my first kid. She has been staying up later lately because the sun does not set until 10:15PM most nights. Also, as a 6 month old she probably would not fit into the high chairs they provide either. OY, does that mean I have to hold her the whole time?! OK, ramble over. Which should I do? haha would it be best to try to get her to engage at dinner and then stand in the back of the shows with my wrap on and sway her to sleep while watching? (would that be allowed???) Or would it be best to try to go to the late seating and hope she is sleeping in a stroller (which we have not yet decided we want to even bring on board and I know the rentals do not recline). OK HELP.
That's a tough one.... First off, I don't know what cat room you have, unless it's an oceanview or above, you're going to have a hard time (ie no room) to have a crib next to the bed. The beds are also only queens, which could be a tight squeeze for all 3 of you. I've read that those on late returning excursions are still encouraged to go to the dining room if they have early dining, so that shouldn't be a problem. The high chairs on board are the standard wood ones, so I think your 6 month old would be fine in them. Personally, if your little one is used to going to bed around 8-9, I'd stay with early seating. If you think he/she will have an issue with early mornings going to bed later and then getting up early for those early excursions, then stick with early. Late is more convenient for those late returns, though we probably will be going to the buffet on those days, as I don't think we want to deal with having to "dress" for dinner after a long day. I think all of the Italy ports, unless the menu in the dining room is so unbelievable, we'll head to the buffet, we have late dining. I'd say base your dining decision on your baby's schedule of late, which sounds like late would work best. You can be out of the dining room by 10PM, and then put him/her down. I'd also bring a stroller onboard, so they can rest in it during the meal, so you don't have to hold them during your meal. I know I haven't been much help here, but I tried.....

I think Mary was supposed to do La Spezia...but she already did Villefranche....Goofy559 can you do La Spezia instead?????

We are flying from Europe and we still are allowed ONE bag and one carry on for DH and I. DD only gets her stroller. I wonder if that includes her car seat though?

What airline? We fly a lot and DD's booster (she's tiny) goes free.

Holy cow, Mary! That rocks! :thumbsup2 I'll email mine to you for some pointers! :worship: I may have a kid, but am sooooo not a teacher!

I know I haven't been much help here, but I tried.....
no you did help a bit. I just wish I would know which is more popular so we can sign up for that and if it does not work out with us we would be more easy to switch, you know? LOL. DH hates to eat late and thinks 8:30 is too late... but who knows. We are planning on doing early mornings to sorta beat the heat and then return to the cruise ships early afternoon, nap, go to dinner, show, go to sleep. :) That sounds doable right? :confused3 Also, she does not sit up yet so who knows if she will be sitting up by herself at 6 months, I hope that the high chairs work out.

We are flying Span Air, we never used them before... what do you mean booster? She is a lap infant (friggin huge though! 18lbs and 4 months right now... she is exclusively breast fed and hoping her weight gain slows or the carrying around Europe in our ergo is going to be taxing!) The airline only says that pram/pushchairs are free. We have a travel system we were thinking of bringing and gate checking it hoping that they consider it all one part of eachother.... but then again, that might be more hassle then it's worth lugging around Barcelona on the public transit! LOL.

most airlines consider car seats to be "special" items. I'd be willing to bet that span air is no different. DD's booster is just one of those backless seats to raise her so that the regular seat belt doesn't come across her neck (she's 7 and just under 4' tall).
When we check in to pay for baggage, we've been asked if any of our items are special and then are told to see the agent about it when you drop off your bags. Gate checking would probably work too, and you'd not have to carry the baby and all the carryons!

Hi Adsmama,

Not sure which category of room you're in - but if you're in a smaller one (as we were/ are) a pushchair which folds down quite small will probably be more use to you than a travel system - as it was a struggle to find somewhere to put ours without folding it or it being in the way.

We are in a small room, but wonder if we should bring it just bc we might need the car seat that attaches to it to bring in the cabs.... we are not huge stroller people in general. In the 4 months we have had her I have used it one time. haha. I am curious how you are going without an infant car seat though if you are planning on using any cabs in Barcelona or Italy.

Sorry, that wasn't clear. Yes, if Span Air is anything like US domestic airlines, it's probably free. Do they have a # to call so as to clarify?

kim

the number costs money for us to call from our home phone, so I have been looking for an email. :)

Mary - I just have one word for your journal AWESOME!!!!!!!

If we send you our Tunis info can you make it pretty like that...we don't have a mac.

Sure! No problem. It is kind of crazy but I like doing graphics and such so I can help.

Ooops was I not supposed to do Villefranche? I can do a different port?

Ok So i realized I just assumed the last port left was Villefranche but never clarified...it could have been La Spezia. If Goof started Villefranche already I can do one for La Spezia or if not maybe goofy can do La Spezia...either way it doesn't matter to me...sorry!

I too am a procrastinator. No problem. I can do la spezia instead! I guess I'd better get to work on this and my door decorations too! Still fussing over my Naples excursion. I really want to see Pompeii and herculaneum and am leaning towards a private tour there instead of the disney one I have booked decisions decisions

phhheww...ok great!

Yeah we decided to book a private tour for Naples. We wanted to see Pompeii and amlafi and have a sort of quiet day.

Hi Adsmama,

We only did buses - so couldn't have had a car seat anyway - as the ones we went on didn't have seat belts. I couldn't say for certain the rules in Italy and Spain, but in the UK children are allowed to travel in taxis without a car seat, so I'm guessing the rules in Spain and Italy are similar. I guess it depends how far you're planning to travel in taxis and how comfortable you'd feel about your little one not being in a car seat. Do Disney have any you could hire - I know they have strollers?

DH placed his order today for his tux! I have my dress, but I really need to take up the hem a bit.

Now I need to start to work on pirate regalia! pirate:
