August 18, 2010...Can't wait for the MAGICal Mediterranean!!!

Hi - I am one of those who has taken advantage of the Cat 12. Can't wait to get involved in this group. We originally were booked in the aug 7 cruise but cancelled for Alaska. Now we are doing both ;)

Welcome!

Mindy- I think that's what we are going to do. We are fairly happy with our room as it is so we will wait until we get to the port and see what is available. To upgrade now would be an additional $1,000.00 so if we could get it for half of that it may be worth it, otherwise I am not sure. We are spending so much on this trip (for us anyway) already so the extra cash may be nice for other things....like a spa villa ;)

Mary - I think that's the best thing to do...we spent a crazy amount of money on this trip...but I've been saving for it for 2 years....we're in a cat 3...

We might join you. We're thinking about giving up our cat 4 and rebooking as a cat 12. Our TA told me we'd save 7500 if we do!!! Not sure if veranda is worth it anymore. Mindy, this might cause a problem with the Palo ressie under my reservation my TA told me. If it does, I'll send you my new ressie number for you to give to the concierge.

Welcome!!!! Always nice to see new people. Let us know your info - ie where from, who's going, late or early dinner seating, any celebrations and Mary can add it to the website....I'm sure she'll contact you for a picture, once she's updating (right Mary?)

You don't lose money because your PIF? I'm not giving up my suite for anything.

We arrive the evening of the 16th.

I own 3 pair of keens. The sandals are the style that have more straps....the Newport style, I think. I worse these for a year and a half before I randomly got blisters. They're very comfortable, I'm now just wary...and wearing them often to build up any calluses that need to form. I also have a pair of the Mary Jane style and a pair of boots that I wear nearly all winter long. Oh, and a pair of hiking boots that I don't wear as often (don't hike much due to some back issues). As you can see, I have a bit of a Keen problem. I need a 12-step program, I think....:rotfl:

Thanks for the info...I didn't realize you were such a keens expert. LOL
I just have such a hard time finding shoes that fit me and are comfortable. I figure I will give them a try.

Have you decided what you are doing in Barcelona yet?

Well, the proof has been finally released. Our cruise isn't booking very well. Cat 12's are now being offered on our cruise. 4k for 4 people in a stateroom. WOW!!!! We briefly thought about canceling our room, but with the cancellation fee since we're now passed PIF, loss of OBC's, having an inside stateroom.... Not worth it anymore. I would have done it before PIF, oh well.... I'll enjoy my veranda a little less now....... Darren says it's unfair they just released them now, I tell him it's so thats those of us already booked can't switch without penalty. It's a good move on their part, but I'm mad!!!!

Wow is right. I can't believe that cat 12 guarentees are out there for our cruise for around $3000 for my family. It is tempting to try and rebook...but I have not called my ta yet. I'm not sure exactly how it would work.

I was originally thinking of trying to upgrade at the port.... but it is frustrating to think that someone can book a cat 12 guarantee and be upgraded to a verrandah and pay so much less.

Welcome....:goodvibes

glad you are joining us. I actually was going to try and convince friends to book when I heard about the prices.

I agree that's a possibility...but you may get stuck with a cat 11 inside cabin just as easily. I couldn't survive without a window. I'm keeping my suite...I actually spent a lot of time on the balcony reading on my last cruise.

the prices are great, however, airfare may be very expensive for those that don't have it yet.

Hi everyone, just wanted to give you an update on our cat 12 debate. We looked at the sizes of a cat 11 (which is the lowest we'd get as a party of 4) and our current cat 4 and decided the difference wasn't enough to entice us to move. Even with a 7.5K savings, we'd still be spending a small fortune on this trip and the thought of spending 14k total and not having a good room location (ie noisy or deck 1) and not enjoy ourselves.

Hop-on-hop-off bus to see everything, most likely. DH wants to go cruise the market. I'm worried about jet lag...9 hours is a lot to overcome!

I have recurrent plantar faciatis, and I can't wear shoes without good support. Keens either have good pre-existing support, or work well with my inserts. I like Crocs for work, and wear their flip-flops as well.

Yes you are right. I almost convinced my parents to book. My mom's health is not good and when I told her the prices she said that would be a dream come true....but yes the flights are pretty high($1400 for the flight we have out of newark)she also was concerned that she would not be near the elevator and that she might not get a split bath....so they are not going to try and come.

I am in the same mind set as you. I have been looking forward to this trip for so long (wanted to go in 2007 was thrilled when they announced the return in 2010) I would be too worried that I would get a cabin I was not happy with and then be mad at myself for changing the reservation.

I know I am worried about the jet lag too. We might see you doing the hop-on-hop off bus that day. That is our plan now as well. :thumbsup2
